ralf blankenburg reacted to icreate in Insert special character: 'Right Indent Tab'
In Indesign we have the ability to use a 'Right Indent Tab' but there doesn't appear to be the ability to do this in Publisher.
This is where you find it in the Indesign 'Type' menu:

Some people may not know what use this is so I'll briefly explain…
Let's say you need to do a table of contents, where you have the title on the left and the page number on the right.
First you type your page title and then you use the right indent tab to force the cursor to the far right of the text box and your page number will be aligned on the right.
Now, if you change the width of the text box the page number will stay on the right - there's no tabs to adjust etc. You don't need to use the menu all the time, you can use alt-tab to push it over which makes it really quick and easy.
Here's a little screencast I recorded to show you what I mean:

Right Indent Tab.mov If this feature is already in Publisher please let me know, I can't find it - this is what Publisher has:

Each font defines its own glyph numbers, so the glyph numbers don't need to be the same. The Unicode code point will always be the same, but the glyph number is an index into the font's internal tables and since different fonts define different characters their tables will be laid out differently and the numbers will differ.
If you think about it, if the glyph numbers did have to be the same we wouldn't use Unicode. We could just use the glyph numbers.

ralf blankenburg reacted to 3joern in No column Grid?
    Hi,
as an oldschool graphic designer all my Books, Magazins and Flyers start's with a intelligent grid thats give me the reference, that all sites/styles etc in the same manner and style. I always prefer a 12 column grid or a 9 column grid. Thats give me flexibility but also some borders for a consistent style. I'am so strange that I love to perfect the position of the columns without decimal points, so I have the posibility for a fast perfect position with coordinates. For example see the screenshot. Without this grid I also can use MS Word for a Layout (thats also can Handle grid in a Textbox, but this is not a flexible and fast way to work), so please add a column grid option.
Oh and if you use Quark 3.32 as a Basic reference would be awesome, I never worked so fast as with this Program thats all reduced to the basics.
    thanks

    @ralf blankenburg
If you mean why do APPLE block people from seeing and therefore buying iPad applications unless you are using an iPad to browse the store, then I would say ask them, it is their change in approach (they used to let you but it now requires an old version of iTunes). I assume they just decided they had to deal with too many refunds for people buying things that they didn't have the right hardware for. So I don't know what to suggest but ask them if you can buy it now without an iPad, but this is a decision made for ALL apps on iPads not anything Serif have any control over.

ralf blankenburg reacted to Wosven in starting a grid design like indesign (typ area or print space)
For doing this, you'll need to set a document grid (better than a frame's grid), since it's set once and for all pages, you'll need a texte frame with colums and forms the same width as those columns.
To set your columns (note the width of your columns):

You show and set your page's grid here:
(Dont forget to have snapping enabled)

    Snapping:

Now you can add a first rectangle:
(it need to be the same width as your columns, snap it to the grid)

Next part, duplicate it once (ctrl+J) and put this new rectangle next to the first.
Keep on hitting ctrl+J to dupplicate until you've got a full row of rectangles.
Make sure the first one and the last one snapped to ggrid correctly, and use the Alignment options so they would be evenly placed.

Keep this row selected, and dupplicate it, put them below, and use ctrl+J again to populate your page.

    Done!

Please add an Indesign import feature. This is very important if you want people to migrate from Indesign to Publisher ...
