  1. What you're looking for is the thin space. To be precise: Geviert translates to 1 quad or 1 em, a Viertel Geviert is a quarter em and essentially a normal space, one-eighth would then be a half space or thin space. See also .
  2. I can see the need for international users and users writing anything else than English. In a French text quotes look different; they’re called guillemets. In German the opening quotation mark is a low mark whereas in English a high mark is used. And on and on. As I wrote earlier, it’s a language dependent thing. I find a drop down box not useful, because the choice should be made based on the language of the text. It took Freehand (and Microsoft Word) a few iterations to offer smart quotes in a certain way, and Publisher is still in beta. I don’t know how high it’s on the developer’s list, but I doubt if it’ll make to the first official release.
  3. Quotation marks differ wildly between languages. See here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark. I doubt if the guys at Serif have language-dependent automatic quotation marks at the top of the list of features to be added. But I could be wrong.
  4. You can Zoom to Document. Every page in the document will be shown that way. If you have a lot of pages they will become really small. Zooming to 2 spreads, for example, is also possible with the Magnify tool. As long as you draw a rectangle AROUND the objects you can select as many as you want. In the Preference dialog under Tools an option is available which makes it possible to draw a rectangle over a PART of the objects and still select them ('Select objects when intersects with selection marquee'). No one knows, as yet. But then again: it is a DTP program aimed at multipage documents, not an illustration program. You could take a look at Affinity Designer, if that's what you need.
  5. Thank you Dave for your clarification. I think it is the right choice to put these options together in one panel. They form a functional group, and users probably expect them to be near each other in the UI.
  6. You know, there is an actual FontAwesome TrueType font. It can be downloaded here: https://github.com/creationix/font-awesome. That'll work!
  7. I agree it can both ways, depending on what is regarded as a feature. Being very strict (and I'm not, really) 'All Caps' shouldn't be in a list of OpenType features, because it isn't an OpenType feature. But the Panel is titled 'Typography', and capitals are definitely a part of that. In the end capitals are important, and a bit of italic text never killed me.
  8. When I choose 'Zoom to Fit' or 'Zoom to Width' (both should result in the same in my example document) the spread is shown completely at its biggest that would fit in the window. It isn't centered however, but shown slightly to the left.
  9. I get what you mean, but Dave Harris wrote: 'They are listed in italics. For example, my Windows Arial has Standard Ligatures, Superscript, Subscript, Ordinal, All Caps, and Case Sensitive Forms in italics, so those are all synthesised. The others are from the font.' Capitals are "from the font" and as such not synthesized.
  10. I do believe that too. Which is why All Caps should never be in italics. And I am staring at it:
  11. The typography panel is a marvel with its previews and the cursive mentions of 'unsupported' features. Just one question: how can 'All Caps' be not supported by any font that has at least the Latin alphabet in lower and upper case? I mean: the caps are surely there and there is no OpenType feature 'All Caps'. Or is it intended to be read as the feature 'Titling Alternates'?
  12. Funny! I just got that, too! But it's a problem, of course, because any bitmap should be treated as such, I think. A vector image is different, but a PSD (which it is in my case) always has resolution and pixels. Or am I wrong?
  13. That's odd. After double clicking my Toolbar looks like this: No mention of resolution. And it says "Embedded document", whereas it's a linked image. I checked the Resource Manager to be sure.
  14. The space that is missing and what is generally used for spacing phone numbers, mathematical formulas and thousands in large numbers is called the thin space (Unicode 8201). In German it is Smales Leerzeichen according to Wikipedia. I understand that InDesign does offer this special spacing character as well as the hair space, the figure space and others.
  15. You're right. I didn't see there were more columns in that list. I can see though that the Resource Manager could be a palette instead of a dialog, which would be rather useful. Keep up the great work!
  16. The Pages palette does show where you are in your document. The page or spread that is in view is "highlighted" with a gray colour. Not a very big contrast with the background (which is also gray), but it is there.
  17. The Windows version does have a Context Toolbar, but it doesn't show this information (image name and placed resolution). The Resource Manager does show name and original resolution, but not the placed one. It does show the placed size though, but that's just redundant.
  18. You're right with the workaround. Despite clicking the Reset Formatting button (which only works when the cursor is exactly on a word that is not conform the Paragraph Style) however, the dropdown box in the toolbar still shows the paragraph style with a plus (+). And that's at least unexpected. What I expect to happen is when anywhere in a paragraph the style is manually altered, the plus would show and the reset button would become active. Pressing the button should revert the styling to the defined paragraph style, wherever the cursor is inside the paragraph. And the plus should go away in both the dropdown box and the text style tab. Sometimes a part of program behaviour is called a feature, but this is not one of those times in my opinion.
  19. I love this feature and its flexibility. Sure, it takes a little time to get what you want, because the possibilities are nearly endless. What I would like is this feature applied to a character style. The current highlight option on the character style level is simply a background colour. I would love to have more precise control over offsets (or indentations). Much like what's possible with CSS.
  20. On second thought you will be able to get very close, with some workarounds. Draw a rectangle as large as the table. The rectangle can have round corners. Set the table frame inset to 3mm e.g. Remove the outer table borders (that is: of the cells, not the frame). For your icons you could of course use a special font, such as FontAwesome. Splash in a bit of colour and you're nearly there! See attachment for the result.
  21. Is your Windows version 64-bit? If not, then the installer will fail.
  22. In Publisher 1.7.0.128 I cannot recreate the inset problem. It may have been an issue in a previous version. Curved corners on tables is not supported, neither are inline graphics in text or tables. Your table is (in my opinion) much more a graphic than a table. Therefore I would use Affinity Designer for that element and place it as such. Inline graphics are a much requested feature, though. I like to believe that Serif will implement it sooner rather than later.
  23. When exporting to PDF/X-4 black remains black. That is: C0M0Y0K100 doesn't get converted to a mix of all colours. Maybe this is what the PDF standards actually require an application to do?
  24. When I place an Affinity Designer graphic with several creative text instances (some left- and some right-justified) all text is shown as left-justified. The graphic is made with Designer 1.6.5.123 and is displayed correctly in Designer itself.
  25. I downloaded a few from Github as mentioned earlier in this thread: https://github.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries. The names of the folder nl_NL, pl_PL et cetera are apparently being recognized by Publisher, so I can choose those languages for the spell checker. But then all words are marked as wrong and no suggestions appear.
