Calibre, as a Swiss army knife for all things ebook, including editing of epub and conversion to and from mobi, azw/3 or any other format you might want to read. Both solutions require some knowledge of html and css. In general I would follow the do one thing and do it well philosophy though.
One way to do it without much knowledge is to open another epub and use it as a template for whatever it is that you're working on.

I have bought APh and ADe for both mac and iPad, but can't get myself to buy APu before mail merge is implemented. Its pretty much useless to me until then - and as others have stated, Adobe gets my money each month because of this single missing feature. Come on Serif!

Data or mail merge is a pre requisite, without it I cannot move from my existing publishing software, have been waiting to see that it is in before I purchase since beta days. We print variable data products like pl;ace cards, point of sale price tags, labels etc and without being able to handle variable data, the product is dead in the water before we start. Absolutely love affinity photo, use it every day and know that publisher would be the same :-)

Data Merge would make Affinity Publisher an instant buy for me. I use it for creating and updating card games in InDesign, and there's not really a tool out there with the same ease of workflow. I understand this is a big feature request, though some update on this, a loose timeline, or just some showing off a very early prototype would be really nice! Thanks.

just made my monthly visit to this forum/thread to check if there's any news on data merge.
The day that feature is added I will head straight to the store and buy whatever program you implented in.

Thanks for confirming, Walt. I did some more investigating, and I discovered that it didn't work for me on the styles I created myself because I had not defined the "Next Level." I overlooked it, because that setting was not with the rest of the list settings.
Now that I've got that sorted out, back to the request:
What you are looking for is only partially available. If you activate the “Use tab to alter paragraph level instead of inserting a tab” preference, then the tab key can be used to change levels, but even with this setting on, it only works if you put the insertion point at the beginning of the paragraph you desire to move. When you have done that, you can move forward and back with the tab and shift-tab. If you have the insertion point anywhere else, or if you have a selection, then a tab character will be typed.
But you are correct that you cannot select multiple paragraphs and promote or demote them all at once with the tab key. But you can do that with the menu item as Walt has pointed out, and there is also a keyboard shortcut that is not too inconvenient.
In Apple Pages, you can grab a section by its bullet or number and move it up or down to another position, and/or left or right to promote or demote it. Any of its child paragraphs (lower levels) will follow it as well. I think that would be a worthy addition, but perhaps it is less important here as we are dealing with DTP rather than a word processor.

Yup. After reading all comments, TypeScript and Javascript are the most obvious solutions. TypeScript for the ones who love static typing, and Javascript for the ones who want to type less. But also, Serif should consider choosing TypeScript as default, but allowing BINDINGS to other languages so everyone is happy.

It's tiny on Windows, too. That's just how it is, for now, I think.

They are holding off the initial release to include more features we want (from the update email that just came out). Hopefully, this thread makes clear that this is an indispensable part of what designers want/need to work in Publisher.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
I have pinned this popular post to the top of the forum for others to find more easily. I cannot say if this will be implemented anytime soon, but clearly it would be desirable to you and others.

You’re probably right, just let’s say that, for me at least, data merge is the only wall blocking me and my agency from a switch.

I really REALLY *REALLY* hope there will be data merge (from csv/xls ecc. to table layout) of some sort. I think that’s the last step publisher needs to accomplish to let professionals finally say goodbye to InDesign.
So far i’m in love with affinity publisher, until now i had only little 1 crash and almost no bugs (project was a 12 page booklet). It almost didn’t feel like a beta. Nice work Serif!

Hi there! The data merge function is so crucial to me that I decided to create an account here to add my +1 to this thread.
I am happy user of Affinity Design/Photo and I would be so glad if I can switch to Affinity Publisher. Unfortunatelly that is not possible without the data merge funcionality.
Is there a way how to be notified once you add this function?

DataMerge is what would bring Publisher to the top for our company.
I was already a fan of Affinity products and use very often. Publisher is  very welcome and DataMerge even more.

And another +1. Data merge (especially for .xls and .csv) would be an excellent addition to this already great program.

Yep, and actually I rather would pay an extra premium just for that feature alone than stay chained to that other firm's payment model for another year.
EDIT: btw, I have to use data merge at this moment with that other software...
