  1. Thanks @Callum and @Wosven - your input is much appreciated. Yes, the Flatten SVG preset seems to resolve the issue too. Those really wide strokes aren't in the original, or in the SVGs I've exported using other presets; though it looks like something is being distorted when I use the export preset. The diagram is fairly simple, and I can't see anything that shouldn't be there in the original file. It is possible I've managed to accidentally change something when I was making the image and cause an issue, but so long as I can get a usable svg image, I'm happy.
  2. The Capture file attached is what I get when I try to view the exported file in Firefox using the standard preset SVG (for export). I've play around a little more. If I use SVG (digital - high quality) to export, then the image is fine whether used in Publisher, PagePlus, Chrome or Firefox. So I think the issue may be with the SVG (for export) preset. I've also attached the exported svg file Lavinia-KB4.svg
  3. Not until tomorrow at the earliest, but I use standard presets for setting up documents and exporting. Besides which, why do I get a black rectangle when I try to place the SVG image in a document in the latest version of Publisher? For my own work, I don't need to export as SVG. But I tested this as I occasionally have to export to provide images to others. This particular image needs to work in PagePlus, because that is the software currently being used by the client. I'd love to get them to update to Publisher; but I've had to accept that it isn't going to happen. I can explore other web SVG viewers when I have time, but It won't solve the issue I have of needing a working SVG export.
  4. Hi, Using Designer 1.10.4.1198. I'm trying to produce a schematic for someone to use in Serif PagePlus, exported as an svg image. I've attached the relevant Designer file. I produced a relatively simple schematic using Designer. Everything looks ok, and the diagram exports fine as a jpeg. Try to export as an svg and various things happen depending on the software it is viewed in: Serif PagePlus: the vertical line labelled B disappears completely. When viewed in Microsoft Edge, there is a a black band across the svg image the same height as the line which disappears. Just get a completely black rectangle when using the svg image in Affinity Publisher. I imported and used an image drawn originally drawn in Serif DrawPlus as a guide at the start; but the drawing was produced on separate layers and this initial image has been deleted. This was some time ago though, and I can't remember what type of file I used. I had to scrap the first version as it misbehaved. Started again, and copied and pasted the new image across to the new Designer file. Everything looked fine initially, but coming back to it again today, I'm experiencing all the above. I'm certainly not an expert with the Designer software, so it could potentially be something I've done, though I've not experienced a similar problem before. If it isn't bug with the export, is there any way I can avoid this happening in the future? Many thanks. Lavinia-KB4.afdesign
  5. I was hopeful it was only a few copies. The cellophane for mine had 2 barcode labels: one for German editing covered up by a label for the English edition. I reported my copy on receipt, as well as the barcode issue and have already had notification of the replacement. So a short delay before I receive my copy, but I know it will be worth the wait.
  6. I've tried the same thing. Even though not visible, the frame is in the assets panel. If you know where it is, you can hover the pointer over it and the asset name will appear (in my case frame text). You can also select it and add it to a document. So it is usable, just not visible. I've one asset which is very feint on a dark user interface, which is much more obvious on a light user interface. Changing user interface makes no difference to a frame asset. Depending on how you are using the text frame, there are 2 options. 1. If you have more than one asset, rearranging so the there is another asset after an invisible asset means there will be a space in the asset panel. It isn't ideal, but it does allow you to identify fairly easily where the asset is, so you can select it (providing you haven't got numerous invisible assets). 2. If a text frame is always located in the same position on a page, I'd use them on a master page instead.
  7. Hi @Dan C, I've had another chance to work on the project this issue was encountered in today and thought it might be useful to share experiences. Having read something relating to settings elsewhere in the forums, I tried exporting SVGs for in Print. For some of the diagrams, the issue with flattening when using the images in publisher was resolved. For the final 2 diagrams, which have more layers, there were still some issues - though fewer than with previous export settings. I've resorted to jpegs this time, which appear to be absolutely fine.
  8. Thanks @Dan C I'll use work arounds in the meantime. It appears I used jpegs with the last batch of diagrams I made, for use in Page Plus.
  9. Thanks @Wosven I'll take a look at the files tomorrow when I'm back at my desk. You've explained the issue with the design file and the art board. I can adjust the artboard and add another layer to mask the outer area. I've been producing similar diagrams in Designer for a while which have been used in PagePlus, and I find the frame helps me ensure good placement of elements, so it's better if the frame is part of the diagram. But why is there a problem with the SVG files?
  10. I've a series of diagrams I have produced in a single Designer file, on separate artboards. The diagrams are related in a series, so it is easier to produce them in sequence. I am however having difficulties adding them to a Publisher document using the picture insert tool. I've attached one of the designer files and corresponding svg files in the hope someone has an idea what is going wrong. If I save a Designer file for each individual diagram, the diagrams are on the whole as I would expect, except I am experiencing an issue with items outside the artboard being visible. If I export the individual diagrams as SVG, they look fine when viewed in a web browser. However, place them into a Publisher document and something rather bizarre is happening. The diagrams are made up of numbers of layers of the same elements - often in the same location, with the upper layers cropped so the whole thing replicates 3d knitting. The whole thing appears flattened, and it looks like the cropped layers are removed. I'm not entirely sure whether there is a better way to do this, or if there is bug or two causing the issue. Any help would be appreciated. I'm working with 1.7.2.471 for both software packages, though the Publisher document was started with the previous release. 3 round bobble for publisher.afdesign 3 round bobble #1.svg
  11. Thanks. Yes, that does work and I've made a note for future.
  12. Thanks @Jon P I've just uploaded the file. The image I've had issues with is on page 5.
  13. I saved the file before I continued with my next steps but where do I upload it so only staff can see it?
  14. I am using Publisher 1.7.1.404 on my PC and have encountered an issue on more than one occasion. At first, I thought it was me, but it is possible it is a bug. I have an svg image which I added to a text frame using the picture placement tool. All goes well, until I decide I need to adjust the picture size due to a change in the space available as a result of edits made to previous text. No matter what I do, I cannot reposition, resize or delete the image. In the end, I end up deleting the master on the page to remove the image, and then replacing the master, linking up the text frame with previous pages, and then finally replacing the image. So I have a work around, but it would be much better if I could just adjust the image. I'm going to use a picture frame this time around, but any suggestions helpful. I'm happy to send the file for staff, if that will help, but it isn't something I can upload to the forums. Intel i7-6700HQ CPU 16GB RAM 64 bit. Windows 10 Home
  15. Possibly does save time, but only if you have located the typo in the document. I often use Find and Replace for items where I need to check I have used the same spelling, capitalisation etc, or where I know I am likely to have misspelt. It saves me a lot of effort locating issues, and then I can proof read for less predicable errors. And while I can't predict all permutations, based on the documents I work on, I can predict certain things are likely to be an issue. For instance, I can usually predict that if the abbreviation cdd is used in a knitting pattern, there will be a mix of CDD and cdd in a document; and there can be numerous instances of both. Or, while I may have used skp in the text I wrote, the text generated from my charting software may include ssk instead.
  16. Yes, and it will also work on the masterpages. So it was my memory that was at issue, as I spent most of my time adjusting items on the master pages once I'd changed the page sizes.
  17. There is always find and replace. You can use spaces, making it possible to avoid selecting longer words containing a particular letter combination.
  18. The spellchecker in Publisher already has the typo of the listed and will correct automatically if set to correct as you type.
  19. I resized a document a week or so ago when playing around with a layout. I'm pretty certain I adjusted the master pages sizing rather than the individual pages, as I needed to adjust them anyway for the layout. Most of what I am working on for that document is still a base layout, with very little content except what is included on the master pages, so memory is probably correct.
  20. Have you looked in Spread Setup? You can change page sizes using the options there. Look under File>Spread Setup, or click on the Spread Setup button just above the Pages and Assets panel.
  21. Look at this thread Importing large word documents into publisher for information on handling the pasting and linking text boxes when working with large amounts of text.
  22. Someone else shared this, but it is worth passing on. From the View menu, make sure you have Show Text Flow selected, and are NOT using Preview mode - this allows the red dots indicating overflow to show. Then select Zoom> Zoom to document. The pages will be reduced in size, but the red over flow dots remain the same size, allowing you to easily see which pages have overflows, and an idea of location. You may also need to check the master pages.

  24. I think I found some of the information in one of the tutorial videos, but I can't remember which one. I do tend to spend time exploring all the drop down menus to see what is included though. While for some tools, I need some explanation via the help pages and tutorials, others are self explanatory once I find them. So, I learn a lot just exploring different features.
