  1. image.thumb.png.a360b51856c7baec908d8d7f9a7bcf92.pngYou can probably see the blue lines at left off page which only appear as I come off the page and disappear as soon as I come back onto the page. Hope this makes sense. Sorry didn't manage screen recording but this might explain my problem. Actually on closer inspection I have discovered that the blue lines do appear when I come back on to the page are there but are so feint the are almost invisible. Is there a way to strengthen them?

  2. Yes I had the problem of the three affinity programs crashing as soon as i pressed the print button. Finally realised that my mac iMac OS 10.9.5 (Which I didn't update as it

could still handle the Adobe CS6 software) was not coping with Affinity.

I use it now on a laptop OS 12.6 Sierra and it all works fine.

Hope this helps. I now fairly familiar with  Publisher and think that it has a lot more going for it than my CS6 copy of InDesign

  3. Thanks for your help but after a lot of trial and error ( and wasted time) I have found that despite Affinity's claim of being OK for Mac OS10.9 this is not strictly accurate.

I have been working with an iMac 10.9.5 (because I still need access to Adobe CS6 and like the bigger screen) and am finding Affinity items that this mac cannot handle. Much of it seems to work OK but so far all para indents are a no go and it seems to be likewise with trying to get double digits with the drop down facility.  Possibly other things will emerge in future.

I have installed Af Pub on another laptop with OS 10.11.6 and Drop Downs and Para indents operate correctly. Sorry for having wasted your time guys

  4. Re the sequentially numbered series of boxes in the new Affinity Publisher book article 'A Character design in Photo', page 244, I can get numbers 1-9 OK but despite HOURS of trying I cannot get no 10 etc. I was sure that I am following the instructions carefully but always end up with the blue figure one at the correct 3 line height but second figure has not changed at all. I am obviously doing something wrong as I managed it once, I suppose my accident, as i could not but could not repeat the moves I had made.

Can't speak for OS 10.9.x but....

How are you using indents? Tabs or a paragraph style? My preferred method is a paragraph style, it is under the Spacing section in both the Text Styles and the Paragraph panels.

Tabs won't work if you have no tab in the text and/or have set the default tabs to 0 (zero)

Yes I am using the spacing section. I think it must be a Mac os10.9 issue as everything works OK on another laptop with OS 10.11

  6. Hi thomaso, Have established that the text on shape problem definitely stems from my 10.9.5 system as downloaded Publisher on to my wife's macbook (El Capitain) and it works OK.

Pity I can't download Photo and Designer but they were purchased when you could only get them from the App store and although my wife and I have the same email address we have different  App Store log in numbers.

Anyway it looks as if I will have to bite the bullet and upgrade my iMac as you suggested. There seems to be plenty of info on the web to assist with this.

Thank you you all the trouble you have taken to help me with this it is greatly appreciated.

  7. Downloaded latest publisher upgrade. Can create text on a pen path but no longer on a shape path. Have to force quit as Publisher hangs. Also Publisher still crashes when I try to print on any of a choice of 4 printers. Have to convert to PDF to obtain printed  copy

I am still on Mac 10.9.5. Reluctant to upgrade OS in case I lose Adobe CS6 as I still use many inDesign files which I cannot do without

  8. Thanks tomaso for PDF advice – jetz ist alles klar. Still a bit wary of upgrading to Sierra. A friend went from Mavericks to Sierra and Photoshop, inDesign etc went all to hell.

Is this meant to be a question? If yes, then, yes, you can vary output quality, regardless whatever quality or using is required.

Ok, I won't tell you to upgrade. But may I tell you that InDesign CS6 runs charming up to macOS 10.12.6 (Sierra)? If not, don't tell me ;)

  9. Thanks for getting in touch Paul. Regarding PDFs  and printing issue. I still use Adobe as I cannot dump CS6 yet. I require press quality PDFs for the commercial printing of a magazine and also "smallest size PDFs of same files for Web. Can I vary the output quality required using Affinity. Also handy if I can convert RGB PDFs to grayscale or can anyone suggest a PDF program similar to Adobe Pro that will work with Mavericks 10.9.5. (no use telling me to upgrade or I will lose CS6 which I need to open old inDesign files).

  10. Affinity Publisher keeps crashing when I try to print. Have tried three printers. Occasionally will print perfectly but sometimes crashes as soon as i click print. It is the only program  on my machine that does this. I have an iMac 10.9.5  which I cannot upgrade as I use Adobe CS6 which I am stuck with until I am confident with the Affinity Suite and it works OK. Photo and Designer OK. If I convert to PDF Publisher prints OK. Have attached crash report. Any suggestions. Nothing too technical, I know nothing about programing

  11. Hi Lee, Thanks for getting back to me. I am using OS10.9.5.  on an iMac. This is as high as I can go without losing Adobe CS6 which I must hang on to until I am confident with Affinity. Among other things I print a small magazine using Adobe CS6 but this time was going to have a go at producing it with Affinity (all my A/photo and designer elements are fine).

All is not lost however. I may have found the cause of the crashing. The text for the article was supplied to me as a PDF (not unusual) but as I was placing into the publisher file there appeared to be odd gaps throughout quite a few of the words. I have a feeling that the PDF file may be corrupted as I have retyped the article  and placed it in publisher and so far it is printing fine. All the printer drives are up to date.  Must say that I love the whole Affinity experience and all the little extras that I came across in the print tutorial look very promising...and time saving.

Do you think that I am right about the duff file? And can I contact you again if the problem has not gone away?

  12. Affinity Publisher almost always crashes when I  try to print. Sometimes as soon as I press print, other times it will print but immediately crashes. When I do manage to get a print it is perfect. The printers are an HP Laserjet 1320 and a Brother and a Brother 2070 and a Canon ix6850. I realise that they are in the first bloom of youth but every other file seems to print OK.  I am using the Publisher 1.7.1
