This would actually be a great thing to have – especially since it's already available with panoramas after the rendering process. Would love to see the "crop to opaque" function available as a general feature in Photo :)

ophion reacted to Five Photos in Affinity, we need clarification: are you or aren’t you working on a DAM?
    Hey guys,

We desperately need some clarification. For the past two years it was mentioned several times here in these forums that you are working on a DAM. However, we haven’t really seen an update on that topic in the past weeks and months. And in your Twitter feed you mentioned a couple of times now that you are currently not developing a DAM. So which is true?

With the recent changes from Adobe with their Lightroom software and with Apple still not improving Photos really, it would be a great time to put a great DAM out there right now. Many, many photographers are looking for a new solution to this old and essential problem. Also, MacPhun just announced a DAM for their Luminar app.

In any case, we just need to know if we should wait for a DAM to be released by you guys or if we should look for other alternatives. Thank you!

There are a lot of quite good pixel editors and vector apps, but only 2 or 3 good (and expensive) layout apps.

It might be helpful for you but I think it would be bad for Serif. They are not Adobe, they are not charging us a monthly rate to rent their software. I have a Mac, a PC and an iPad Pro and I have bought licenses for all three of those platforms for both Designer and Photo and soon for Publisher.
With the recent Designer for iPad promotion and the sales they had for the desktop versions,  a person just coming to the Affinity line could have bought Designer for iPad, Mac, and Windows and Photo for iPad, Mac and Windows and it would have cost them all of what?, $175???
I used to pay for Adobe CC and just for the Photoshop/Lightroom and Illustrator plans and it cost me $382.56 a year. And the next year it would have cost me $382.56 and the next year it would have cost me $382.56. Now, yeah, I can install them on my Mac and PC but there were no iPad versions. You add up the cost over a 10 year span, assuming no price hikes and I would have paid out $3,825 to Adobe. Now I personally have spent $215 for the Affinity apps I have for the 3 platforms. Even if in a 10 year span I have to pay for the upgrade cost to version 2 and 3 of the Affinity line, I am still making out like a bandit and pocketing $3200. That is $3200 that can pay for the cost of a new iPad Pro AND a new PC.
When you look at it through that lens, which again, is just my personal take, isn't Serif's approach fair and just? Now I am all for purchasing a license to any of the Affinity apps and having it be cross platform but there would have to be a price increase. To expect to pay $50 for a license that entitles you to the Mac, PC and iOS is just folly. I mean, Serif has different development teams, they have to pay the bills, the employees, etc.
Now yeah, hypothetically, say there was no Mac App Store and Serif decided to go in different way, would people be willing to pay $100, 125, 150 for a license that allows them to install it on Mac, PC or iOS? I think that would be a dubious proposition and a serious gamble on Serif's part.

    Hi Jakub
    Welcome to the forum
You can change the dictionary language as well as other elements in the language section at the bottom of the Character panel
We do not import docx files at this point I'm afraid. We only currently allow you to place text from txt and rtf files
We do not support footnote and endnotes for this initial release
We do support non-breaking spaces you should be able to use the unicode or go to the Text Menu > Insert > Non-breaking space
    Thanks

    Hallo,
    - where could I set a paragraph language?
    - can I import a docx text?
    - can I import a text with footnotes or endnotes?
    - can Publisher do a PROPORTIONAL NONBREAKING SPACE (it is used e.g. in Czech for typesetting a space between single-letter word and another word - "v Praze" [in Prague]).
    Thanks.

ophion reacted to Fixx in Spanish accents didn't work. FIXED on 1.7.0.58 release
This behaviour was discovered in beta a while back and will be corrected. On the other hand it is not lethal flaw just now as imported and pasted text seem to behave correctly and if you type extras can be removed by hand.

    Spanish accents didn't work.
Hi, first of all, thanks for this new app. I've been waiting for it for two years or so. It's now here and I'm very excited about it.
On my first text box, find a strange behavior, in spanish we use accents as part of our regular speaking and writting so we have on writing form - á - é - í - ó - ú
You get it by pulsing the accent key and then the vowel key.
When I write directly on Publsher and use the keyboard to add the accent to any vowel I get this:
    ´á - ´é - ´í - ´ó - ´ú
I always get the accent alone before the letter to be accented. I can go back and delete it, but that's something you cannot be doing while writing spanish.
Is not about language support inside publisher, becuase no other app does it, even if it's an app with english support only. So I think is a little bug right here.
It only happens when I write directly on Publisher.
    Hope it can be fix.
Thanks again for this developement, eager to get buy the final version.

Coming from InDesign, I was particularly looking forward to seeing how Publisher handles links and packages. So far I've gathered that it embeds resources by default, but that you can release the embed and change the setting to linked in the resource manager. But is it possible to package and collect all files as it is in InDesign?
Say you have a very large document with 20-30 GB worth of links and you want to send it over to someone else to finish the project. How would you go about that in Publisher? Will the document file size be 20-30 GB in that case? Sometimes I send the InDesign file without links to other people, so they can see the layout. In that case it would be quite cumbersome to include all resources. And what if you only wanted to send a couple of the linked files - how would you easily access those files from within Publisher? I don't see a "Reveal in finder" option for linked files.

    Hi ch1ptune
We do not support packages for this initial release. It may be something we look at doing in a future update. Current if you want to send the file you just need to send the afpub file, or export it to something like PDF if it's just for review.
Our reveal in finder is currently only for the main document itself rather than a resource. If you were sending files they can use the resource manager to replace the files but they would still need to search in finder for where they placed them
These two things are not bad feature requests so I;m going to move this post to that section
    Cheers

Packaging the document to include all assets and fonts etc ( like InDesign)  is a feature that would be 100% mandatory for me to be able to switch from InDesign to Affinity Publisher.  and oh boy do I ever want to switch to affinity Publisher!!!
