Should be able to have both absolute (units) and relative (%) values when manipulating any object/frame/content. I currently cannot get a mis-sized object to return to correct proportions because I don't know the actual units needed to maintain its general size but get back to having no distortion. I should be able to type %H %W to the same value and know I now have its aspect ratio correct.
Fitting:
Fit Contents in Frame Proportionately (means entire contents are visible with existing frame size - no cropping occurs) Fill Frame with Contents Proportionately (means the existing frame size will be filled and the contents effectively cropped) Fit Frame to Contents (means the frame changes size to match dimensions of contents - no cropping occurs) Once fitted, it should be a starting point. When I adjust the frame-content set the crop established by the fitting should not change.

At the moment it seems way too easy to strech (distort the proportion) of pictures.
I don't see any usecase for that, and still this is like the first thing that happens if you start pulling on a placed image.
Cropping a picture is much more important for me, because this i need to do every day.

Thisismandatory got a reaction from SwissGraphicDesign in improved picture frame tool
Ok I have now more report on using the picture frame tool. This in my opinion is lacking and needs polishing. After setting up a dummy book I can list annoyances that should be addressed.
As I said the frame needs to conform to the content. Now the workflow looks way cluttered. Setting up the image with the frame filled proportionally. Adjusting to fit the page to my liking. If the frame happens to go into bleed, since this has yet not been implemented I have to manually adjust frame size for it. Because any resizing of the frame will change the size of the image as well, I have to first fit the frame to the content, so I can enlarge the frame into the bleed (only one side). This is now done with copying the image size in mm and copy the value to the frame. Then the frame is adjusted for bleed in one dimension. Prior to that I have to set up a guide so I do not loose the positioning.
Second issue is that the images get embedded automatically. Because I moved the folders around I cannot simply make them linked, I have to replace every single image and after that make it linked. Here another issue arises the picture frame does not remember the setting I have chosen for it. This means that I have to go to properties and choose again how the image should fit in the frame. Very cumbersome for now.
Finally the workflow as is slow as there is no shortcut for any of it. I know I can do my own shortcuts, but I think most of this would be basic functionality hence I would expect pre-made shortcuts.

An option to have the frame fitted to the image and an option to resize the frame without resizing the image.

This if implemented, I could see as a great selling point. I like the idea a lot! But I have to agree that there are more important issues to resolve implement, that said I would love to see this added along the line, at some update.

and is not much to add in publisher, all they need to implement is a fit frame to content option. One more option under properties

I may be misunderstanding your issue here.
I have exported both INDeisgn and Affinity files to PDF and get the same result.
Untitled Aff.pdf
Untitled-1.pdf
Please can you clarify? I would love to help you with this.

The only issue this is still lacking. It is impossible to print a spread - facing pages as a single page pdf and there is no gutter bleed. Something that is very needed for glue binded books.

Hi, overprint preview would be great to see, also possible to see the spot colors saved in psd files.

The bleed setting should definitely be on the file/new page.

Thisismandatory reacted to Eugene Tyson in Make bleed settings part of File>New
I can't imagine why setting up a new document that Bleed options are not there.
Especially when choosing any of the Print setups.
Can you please ensure this is included in the dialog box by default in File>New?

Thisismandatory reacted to MickRose in Wrong layer concept for an layout application
I think Musiberti is right. The problem is that the Layer function seems to be part of the page, whereas it needs to be part of the document so changes can be made on multiple pages by single clicking on the Layers panel. We need something like "Global" layers.

I was looking for this too. Also I like the ID method of using the arrow keys in conjunction with the frame tool to split the size of the master frame into a number of smaller frames with a set gap between the frames

Thisismandatory reacted to Quorra in Resource Manager - Embed / Link Resource
+1
Yes, please make linking default and embedding an option.
I think it is also better for the file size of the layout document to not embed images. And it's easier to edit images and just update these links in the document.

Thisismandatory reacted to TomJr in Bleed on document setup
Like InDesign, I would also like the ability to automatically copy to the others, so if I want a .125" bleed all around, I only need to enter it once.

Thisismandatory reacted to DarrenLm in Bleed View
Hi - major important feature would have to be bleed view, being able to work out how much bleed is on one edge to the other is important in large exhibition / packaging projects.
Also be nice to be able to set bleeds up when setting new doc / page all in one place.

I'll keep using InDesign if the problem of missing footnotes is not solved.

Pretty obvious when you deal with word files all day I don’t want to typeset a book in Calibri or times new roman! But I do want to keep what is italic italic etc that’s why!

Thisismandatory reacted to Glenbo in Disappointed!
Walt, I've been typesetting for years now, and so far the only Application that cuts the mustard is InDesign, Quark has always felt clumsy to me, although I do like their Synchronised Text option!
I tried Text > Insert Text From File... and just got an error on an RTF file maybe it didn't like it from Word? Or some language option?
The adding text frames like you describe sounds an awful Faff for a 224 pp book! A Text frame on the Master page is far more elegant that's why InDesign and Xpress have had so much success with it, trying to work on an illustrated book that is still being written working like this would drive me crackers!
I have watched the tutorial videos, and they didn't cover points like find and replace fonts?
I extensively use Style Sheets as it's the smartest way to typeset these days and gives you an Epub ready book, if you use Anchored images in InDesign, I can't even see an ePub option in Publisher yet?
On the whole, there's much to like - I like the interface and I like how a lot of it is logical but I suggest the developers look at how a designer lays out a book and stop them at certain points to understand why they are doing certain things... I'd happily share my screen with one of them and explain what I am doing as I do it if it helps them make this a great product, I don't like Subscription based software, renting Adobe Bugware isn't fun! I agree with you.
And "brochures and marketing"... Designer can do that already. Which is why I kept telling them not to make a Designer with extra pages...

Guys, move the topic if needed.
I have to express my full appreciation for the way you provided pdf services within APub.
Really, I found it especially valuable because during data migration between my NASes I lost some Indesign documents but still could recover final PDFs from cooperating print house.
Looks I can still work on these docs with APub and this huge doc can be still viewed, zoomed and panned with full display resolution and performance. ))) !
