There are about four or five threads on this topic. Seems quite important to people. I also would like to see it, as it would make life easier

    Hi Publisher Team,
great product of yours! I already bought a license.
Just one feature is missing - the "Fit to box" feature, which resizes the font in each line to automatically fit the text box's width as mentioned in this post: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/70240-resize-text-automatically/&do=findComment&comment=363910
It would be great to see this feature in your product so that an effect like in the attached image would be easy - today I need to manually resize every single line to fit the text in properly.

    @Gabe Logan
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
It's not possible yet. There are plans to be able to open IDML files in the future
<mod edit> IDML not INDD file clarification was made in an edit on 6th July 2019 </mod edit>

Affinity Publisher looks truly excellent — but I can’t see how to add either footnotes or endnotes. Where have you hidden them?
[There’s a small bit of my brain that’s telling me that you haven’t implemented either yet, but I can’t believe that. Of what possible use would this beautiful new app be without such a basic functionality? I think it’s more likely that you’ve hidden them somewhere or that you’re calling them something else and that I just haven’t found them yet. Please tell me that’s right....]

Helmuth Pandora reacted to Distill7 in Requested Features after official release
First I want to congratulate everyone in Serif for creating this awesome software and trio.
After being a user of the Publisher Beta and being active in this forum, I have collected a list of features that I need for my work (mostly book interior design) and some that others requested. I'm not saying that Serif should provide them in the near future, but I hope it helps them see what's needed and give an outline for other members of the community. And I hope affinity will release an official roadmap for Publisher soon.

Helmuth Pandora reacted to Jeremy Bohn in Bleed is lacking
There is a bleed option in Document Setup, but there is no apparent way to actually see this area in the document. For example, in InDesign when the bleed area is set there is a red box around the document area showing the bleed area.
Also related: Publisher doesn't appear to have a page edge or guide. For example, I draw a rectangle and fill it with orange, then bleed it off the edge of the document. I can now no longer tell where the edge of the page is because the orange rectangle is on top of the page edge. In InDesign, each page has an edge that is "always on top" so you always see the boundaries of the page. The bleed guides work the same way.

the picture frame is very smart, too smart. If the image is positioned manually in a specific position and then the frame size is changed, all our work will be lost.
I like the smart picture frame but I would also like a stupid mode like inDesign

Apologies if this was started already as a suggestion.
I think that Export Persona should be very useful in Publisher. Imagine trying to negotiate various PDF export options.
Being able to PDF only certain pages or exporting pages in other formats would really be great.
I know that we have Export command but Export Persona would act as some sort of Presets for a variety of exporting options.
This should be a low-hanging fruit for the dev. team as most of the functionality already exists in Export Persona in Designer and Photo.

I agree with Fixx. I’ve done contract work (book design) where the final product was an InDesign file but that is (for me) a very edge case.
I do, however, have an archive of completed projects that (every so often) I’m asked to update for a client and I really (REALLY!!!) don’t want to have to keep a copy of InDesign on my system. I would like to make a clean break with Adobe and, at this point, InDesign is the holdout.
That said, I don’t expect the migration to a new desktop layout application to happen overnight. I remember a long and strenuous transition from Quark to InDesign almost 20 years ago that still makes my left eye twitch.
IF Publisher turns out to be viable I can create IDML versions of those projects for which I have not already done so. (My normal workflow is to create an IDML from the final INDD file when a project is complete so I can open files on older versions of InDesign or Quark in a pinch.)
Importing INDD files into Publisher is not as important to me as importing (and possibly exporting) IDML files for maximum forward compatibility.
It would be great if the IDML import successfully imported the character, paragraph, and object styles.
