    Affinity is definitely worthwhile for the professional. Here it is used as secondary software. We may not do publishing as a business, but we definitely have tasks requiring professional publishing software. It is the same for photo editing and graphic drawing. just like we have professional level accounting software to handle the accounting even though we are not an accounting firm. As a result, paying to rent software with cumbersome access that we use regularly enough, but not daily all day, is not an affordable option with regards to money, time, and energy. And when we need it, we need the full professional level version of the software, not some dinky "lite" version.
    As for Linux, we do as much on Linux as we can these days. More and more each day. We will not be upgrading to Windows 11 (the 10 version hampers productivity daily) or any Windows-based software anymore unless our favorites, such as Affinity, create a Linux version. And yes, we would definitely pay for it.

    That's not an answer. Serif ignores the massive desire of users for Linux versions of their programmes. So that this doesn't attract attention, you want to banish everything on the subject of Linux to one thread. That's why the users have to vote with their feet. Therefore, as many threads as possible on the subject should be placed in the forum so that the massive wish cannot be ignored.

    This platform already exists. It is Snap or Flatpack. Therefore, there should now also be a version for Linux.

    Hallo liebe Community,
Also Linux mit Libre Office, Libre CAD...
Was wäre nötig? ...

    Welcome to the forum.

    This is something that has been requested before but we have no plans to develop Affinity apps for Linux i'm afraid.

    I know that not a lot of people use Linux, but a lot of Linux users would love to see Linux support for affinity.  Last mention that about Linux support for affinity was in 2014 and that's a looong time ago. Linux community is growing each year and is getting better. And if affinity would get linux support, more people will be using affinity because there are tons of people (that I talked to) on windows using adobe software, and the only thing holding them back is not much great graphical software for linux, GIMP and Inkscape are cool, but they are not good for everything. I personally love affinity more than adobe and running it in Virtual-Machine is not very pleasant. I know that developing software is not very easy, but to me it would be worth it to give it a shot and make affinity available for everyone.

    (on Fedora 30, Affinity 1.6.5.135)

    Information
    I tried to run Affinity previously, but only got to the point of "VK_CHILD_WINDOW_RENDERING" not being implemented and after not using Affinity Photo for a long time to stay with Linux I got the following message on Discord:

    So I had to try it out and what can I say? It works flawlessly!

    Installation
    Download Affinity 1.6.5 from: "https://store.serif.com/de/update/windows/photo/1/"
    The following commands are required to install and use Affinity Photo (Run EVERYTHING in the same terminal instance).
    Open a terminal in the same folder, you downloaded Affinity into!
    # Download and extract the correct wine version curl -L https://lutris.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/runners/wine/wine-lutris-vkchildwindow-4.12.1-x86_64.tar.xz > wine-lutris-vkchildwindow-4.12.1-x86_64.tar.xz tar xf wine-lutris-vkchildwindow-4.12.1-x86_64.tar.xz # Set the path to wine for winetricks to work correctly export WINE="$PWD/lutris-vkchildwindow-4.12.1-x86_64/bin/wine" # Remove the old wine prefix rm -rf ~/.wine alias wine=$WINE wine wineboot -i When this window opens, click on "Cancel"

    # Downloading the newest version of winetricks curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks > winetricks chmod +x winetricks Now that everything is downloaded, and a new prefix was created, you have to install some dependencies.
    Follow the instructions in the setups and click on "Reboot Now". You can ignore warnings by the setups.
    # To prevent errors from mono ./winetricks remove_mono -q # For the installer ./winetricks dotnet35sp1 -q # For the main application ./winetricks dotnet472 -q # Set windows to 8.1, since aero is not found if set to win7 ./winetricks win81 -q Run the installer with: (Deselect desktop shortcut)
    wine affinity-photo-1.6.5.135.exe Install DXVK to make Affinity Photo work
    git clone https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk ./dxvk/setup_dxvk.sh install Affinity should now be installed under "~/.wine"

    Desktop Shortcut
    Run this code below!
    cd ~/.local/share/applications/ echo "[Desktop Entry]" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop" echo "Name=Affinity Photo" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop" echo "Exec=$WINE '/home/$USER/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Affinity/Photo/Photo.exe'" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop" echo "Icon='/home/$USER/.local/share/applications/$(ls ../icons/hicolor/256x256/apps | grep Photo | head -n 1)'" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop" echo "Type=Application" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop" echo "Categories=Photo;Utility;" >> "Affinity Photo.desktop"

    Thanks for looking at that--I'll check page 424.
    However I made a test document and think the bug is actually pretty simple. It seems if an embedded PDF is set as an anchor with a hyperlink pointing to it, exporting to PDF will always fail. It doesn't actually seem to have anything to do with page boundaries. I've made 3 test documents that are attached:
    1) Includes anchored PDFs that extend beyond page boundaries in various ways.
    2) Includes anchored PDFs that don't exceed page boundaries.
    3) Only includes plain anchored text, and this is the only file that exports successfully (when hyperlinks are included in the export obviously).

    You certainly shouldn’t need this if you’re using a commercial printing service, but for those who want to print their own centre-stapled or saddle-stitched booklets it would be useful if the software offered an adjustment for ‘creep’.

    Nathan Shirley reacted to GarryP in Text on path mirrored on transformed curves
    You can ‘bake’ the curve into its current geometry by:
    * drawing a rectangle around it;
    * selecting both the curve and rectangle together;
    * choosing menu “Layer → Geometry → Merge Curves”;
    * choosing menu “Layer → Geometry → Separate Curves”;
    * deleting the rectangle.
    See my attached video (for multiple curves just draw the rectangle around them all).
    It’s not a particularly quick method, but how often would you need to do this?

    No, there's no way to do that for objects simply by changing the color if you didn't start by making them with a global color.
    If they all have the same stroke settings, though, perhaps you could:
    1. Select as many of the objects as you can easily select, and change the color. It will affect all of them
    2. Edit > Copy
    3. Select more objects.
    4. Edit > Paste Style (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+V)
    5. Repeat from step 3 as needed.

    I use Montax Imposer, Windows only.
    http://www.montax-imposer.com
    Montax has a size-limited free version. I don't know its other limitations, if any.
    Imposition software doesn't change any thing about the internals of a pdf, only rearranges the single page type pdfs for imposition (along with creep, signatures, etc.).

    Nathan Shirley reacted to Yannick Gaultier in Assets shared on laptop & desktop
    Hi

    @s.auler I can confirm this works fine. I have added Affinity Publisher to the mix since then and its assets and settings are stored in the same location as Affinity Designer due to the junction on the "Affinity" folder. It does allow me switching transparently from desktop to laptop with both software with all settings and assets always being there.
    @haakoo That's a workaround but this does not preserve settings, recent files, Studio configuration (which panels to show/hide) etc.
    Using a set path for Affinity storage, one can move around from computer to computer without interruption in the workflow. Hope the ability to set a storage path will be added in the future but junctions/symlink is the next best thing at the moment I think.

    Cheers

    Nathan Shirley reacted to ch1ptune in [Implemented] Is it possible to package a project in Publisher?
    Coming from InDesign, I was particularly looking forward to seeing how Publisher handles links and packages. So far I've gathered that it embeds resources by default, but that you can release the embed and change the setting to linked in the resource manager. But is it possible to package and collect all files as it is in InDesign?
    Say you have a very large document with 20-30 GB worth of links and you want to send it over to someone else to finish the project. How would you go about that in Publisher? Will the document file size be 20-30 GB in that case? Sometimes I send the InDesign file without links to other people, so they can see the layout. In that case it would be quite cumbersome to include all resources. And what if you only wanted to send a couple of the linked files - how would you easily access those files from within Publisher? I don't see a "Reveal in finder" option for linked files.

    Nathan Shirley reacted to anweid in Hyphenation bug with slash?
    This not only happens with a slash, but also with other characters. The German Publisher 1.7.3.481 under Windows hyphenates also directly before bullets. The attached screenshots (never mind the bad justification and kerning) tells the reader of the original document which menu entries to select, and I decided to separate the menu levels with bullets. The strange hyphenation comes from Publisher. For the second image, I also tried the characters ¼®¥Φϖ☺ (instead of the bullet) just for fun, and each and every one of them makes the same hyphenation happen.
    Unfortunately, since standard hyphenation algorithms normally only look up the probability of hyphens between pairs of characters, and the above characters probably never appear in any pair list, I don't have any idea how to solve this. The problems with the slash should be solved somehow, though, because slashes appear rather often...
