Yaco reacted to kenmcd in Publisher Export to PDF text all garbled
The garbled text which looks like that is often the result of having multiple copies of a font installed.
Check the windows fonts folder and directly view the actual files (not Font Manager).
    C:\Windows\Fonts
    Look for duplicates like:
    Montserrat-Regular.ttf
    Montserrat-Regular_0.ttf
    Montserrat-Regular_1.ttf
    etc.
Make sure you only have one version installed.
Un-install the fonts, and then go look to see if anything is still there.
There should be nothing (for those fonts, obviously your other fonts will still be there).
If there are still any versions of those fonts there, you need to delete them as they are duplicates.
Also make sure you have no fonts installed in your user font folder.
    C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts
USER_NAME should be your user name.
The reason to un-install it all, and then clean it all out, is to start clean.
The various font caches need to rebuild properly with only one version of the fonts installed.
Do this with the apps closed so they will re-initialize the app font cache when they re-start.

Yaco reacted to MEB in Use of Pen, Pencil and Vector Brush
    There are no foolish questions...

The Pen Tool gives you more control over your lines. You have to place each point individually and thus define the shape of each path with a great level of precision. You can assign pressure profiles, but you can't control them directly (the width) while you draw them. The result is pure vector paths.

The Pencil Tool gives you freedom. You don't place nodes individually. You draw the lines in their entirety. It leads to more expressive paths, like in hand-drawing. You can control their width with pressure sensitive tablets while you draw them. But, they are still simple lines (paths) with variation in width. The result is pure vector paths. It's great for inking or free-drawing where the expressiveness given by the width variation is important (cartoons; for example).

The Brush Tool is similar to the Pencil Tool regarding the freedom to control the tool while you draw. But, here you can attach a bitmap texture to create a multitude of organic/natural effects. The pressure (or other controller) define how those strokes will be drawn. The result is a bitmap based stroke. If you zoom in enough you will start to see the smoothing effect applied by AD to the pixels (to avoid pixelation). So it's wise to use high-res textures if you want to keep the detail of the texture used to create the brush. There's a multitude of uses for this, but the end goal is to get a more natural, less synthetic look. Since you can create you own brushes, it allows a more personalized/distinct result. It lets you develop a style if you will.

In all the three cases you can still change to the Node Tool to correct/adjust the nodes/paths created by those tools, which gives you more control than painting/drawing directly with pixels.

I have not found it yet, but is there/could there be an option to choose a stroke style like double rules thin/thick etc (see InDesign or Quark [remember that?]). This would be useful when designing traditional looking documents. You can fake it by using multiple objects, but that's messy. It doesn't exist in Affinity Designer, but it would be of little use there in an illustration app.

I agree with this, and Wickster's example illustrates the issue perfectly.
Aligning, centering, and simply looking at the selected items is simply better with a bounding box that fits the objects snuggly.
It's definitely not something that comes up often but it makes a difference when it does.
I really like the cycling button, if it oculd be sticky it'd make workflows more agile.
if an improvement request can be made, that would be awesome @Chris B !

    Cheers all

you guys made the market for creative software really rock!!!
and I am telling everybody proudly that I have made the switch from Adobe to Serif!!!
over 25 years of intensive professional use and after the silly change to the Creative Cloud ... I am almost free from the Adobe machine and that feels so good!
just one more thing is missing in the Serif collection: an alternative to replace After Effects!
and I guarantee you guys if you'll manage to get that one as excellent as Affinity Photo and Designer ... there will be another big wave of switcher's be rolling in!!!
are they any plans for an "Affinity After Effects"?

Agreed, When exporting, for example, the same logo with export variations, this becomes so useful.

I am working on a project for a clinet with 45 different logos. That's due to color variations and organization subdivisions. I need to give them transparent and solid files, and a few years ago I also gave them high res and low res versions of the images.
A prefix or suffix is needed to help the client differentiate between each file, especially if the image format is the same...and even if not, as the people using these files might not always know that png might have transparency and jpg definitely won't. This would be even mor eimportant for high res and low res versions.

    Hi DM!

Thanks for your answer - unfortunately that was not my question.
I want to roundtrip from Mylio into Affinity Photo.

But that is not possible - or do i oversee something?

In Mylio there is a share button, too.
But AP is not in the List - even if i tap on more.
It is the standard Apple Share Dialog i'am referring to
not something special Mylio is doing.

Is there any way to add AP to the standard share function in Ios?

It's currently only possible to add your own variables for Slices but these are only available to the current document. It's also not possible to add scripting, sorry.

These features have been requested before by other users and hopefully this part of the app will be improved in the future.

Yaco reacted to triforcesolutions in Affinity Designer slices export names based on filename
Hi, I was wondering if there is any solution for my problem.
I am using Affinity Designer for creating documents for my clients, all of them are based on few templates. I have at least two artboards in each template and I export them to two filetypes - jpg and pdf.
    Here is my workflow:
I am opening last saved document of some kind - e.g. document-1005, then I am editing it with new data and then I am saving it as document-1006.
Then I am exporting (ctrl alt shift s) each artboard as jpg and pdf - because filename of Affinity Designer file is kept - its all easy for me to keep filenames constant (I have in one plce files document-1005.pdf, document-1005.jpg, document-1005.afdesign).

What would be perfect for me is to use slices to export. Right now if I choose slices - I would need to change slices name everytime when exporting them.
I am looking for some simple solution like what I created in Photoshop. Simple java script - it can create subfolders (when I need) and/or save file as jpg/png/psd with prefix or suffix added to original filename.

Is it possible in any way?

    Regards,
    triforcesolutions

    COLOR
While I agree that yellow / black are warning colors (largely because it is the highest contrast color combination), it's a combination I think is used a lot in the construction industry...from signs to vehicles and hard hats. Just a matter of evaluating if  association with those elements is a plus for your business, based on your company's profile.
    CITY OF MELBOURNE
Just a heads up, the city of melbourne logo is similar in shape, though different in just about everything else in your branding. Still, probably good to keep an eye on them and make sure to conciously keep your branding in a separate direction than theirs, to avoid unwarranted comparisons.

Thanks for the reply. I am still getting used to the different workflows in Affinity suite. I really like it but it's sufficiently different that I simply don't see things as my brain is expecting something entirely different. I'll get there eventually, especially now that I have forced myself to use only Photo and Designer for all my personal work.

    Hi DavidMac
I've just tried this with the Pen tablet and the area is indeed too small to be easily reached without requiring much attention/precision. I'm passing this to the dev team to see if it can be improved a little.
    Thanks for your feedback.
