  1. Ohhh My. Super excited to have my children’s picture book reviewed. All created in Strawberry Monkeys favourite app. Affinity Designer. So happy to see this moving in the right direction! “Thoroughly recommended” by Club Hub UK - Kids Activities Check out this great review of Strawberry Monkey from Club Hub UK below https://clubhubuk.co.uk/ohhh-strawberry-monkey-club-hub-uk-review/
  2. Thank you! Yep, had to get on with what I had. I'm sure we are really close to seeing Publisher!
  3. Ohhh my, so much in common. Love the mindset. Naturally, yes there are benefits to being with a publisher and if anyone publishing a book was offered a good deal, consider it. I like to do things differently. Your book is coming very soon! make sure you shout me out in the acknowledgements.... Look at what Affinity, @MattP and the other cool dudes have done, whilst they may have had a head start on Windows with the Serif range, coming over to macOS and iOS is big and they have done an amazing job, taking on the so called big guns (I do love Adobe BTW, Audition, Character Animator is cool) changing up the game and having their rightful success. By the end of 2018 we will have a stable Affinity Designer on iOS and Publisher. It's inspiring, many have gone on to create amazing things against the grain, against the norm, despite the noise and negativity, but its all fuel, its what drives us on.
  4. Sooo looking forward to this. Hopefully in time for the 2nd release...This is going to make putting the books together so much easier...
  5. Thanks... I chose not to pursue a publisher, didn't like what I read with their submission guidelines. Plus I'm so much further ahead then I would be with them and I feel penalised by them and some picture book bloggers by choosing to go down this path. It's 2018, we have Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, there is no reason besides the cashflow why anyone needs a publisher. Just some patience, hustle and hard work and all will be good. However, if Ladybird came along then we'll talk...Plus I'll be in a much stronger position if I hit some seriously good sales. Also, I'm not going to give up control to just anyone, I've worked seriously hard on this, the website, the content on the website, the book, design, copy, editing, proof-reading, the iMessage stickers, social media etc etc. What would involve maybe 5/10 people and many more years, I've learnt and created by myself all in one app....
  6. Thanks Miguel. The second is already in production and ideas for the third are in my head. Hopefully at least 3 books before 2018 is out. Just waiting for publisher to make my life easier...
  7. Thanks George, still a way to go, but progressing in the right direction. Still waiting to see the 'little book of eejits' could see it going similar to the Mr Men series...
  8. Hi all, hope all is well, its been a while since I posted any updates. I've finally completed the first of many children's picture books, you may have seen a copy a while back, but I wasn't happy with the end results from the printers and there has been many, many changes. I have also designed the website in Affinity Designer which contains games and free activities for schools and parents. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey is the series of books and are stories of friendship based around a cute, pink, lovable, but somewhat clumsy monkey who will certainly cause a few chuckles. The website is mystrawberrymonkey.com and you can find our first paperback here on Amazon If you have grandkids, kids, nieces or nephews go check this out! Allan Thompson
  9. Thanks @Callum Hi Charla, I have also created a book or two inside of Designer. All my stuff is vector, can't draw by hand unfortunately, but slowly learning. My book size was based on the Hey Duggee, Peppa Pig books as mine is a very similar style. So I created 35 or so artboards (inc spine, front and back cover and blank inside cover) for the layout once I knew the size I wanted to print at with 3mm margins (acting as bleeds) so I knew what would be cut off when printed and what would be safe. Here is a link to the site http://www.mystrawberrymonkey.com If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. Allan
  10. Hi Thomasnosek, This was created nearly a year and a half ago and all my tutorials were created before Affinity released a windows version of their apps. Allan
  11. Hey Dewy44, There is an autosave feature built in. You can change the interval by clicking on the cogwheel in the top right from the home screen of the app. Others have faced similar issues, but that usually happened if it crashed before pressing the home arrow within a project, which would have saved the project. That seems to have been fixed in the 1.6.2 update. Allan
  12. Hey Andy, Working on the next composite, although it feels a lot more stable and no crashes, so far. I still face some similar issues. When I click refine after my selection, there is no progress bar. The blue outline in the 2nd image is the space shuttle, it just moved a few seconds later. Multiple layers, cut-outs and effects seems to make it really slow....
  13. Hi Mike, Unless I misunderstood the question, you can use the Pen Tool to create your points, then once closed, in the context tool bar choose selection and it will make a selection based on the shape you've drawn out.
  14. If you use the rectangular marquee tool, make your selection, then go to Edit in the menu bar and choose Inpaint. *This option is in Photo on the desktop, I've not come across this option on iPad, I mention this as you've posted in the iPad questions section. Allan
  15. I'm so use to Designer that I forgot that it exist in Photo, desktop version. Interesting that there isn't a studio panel in Photo on the desktop for that. Not that I would need it as I would use Designer... Anyway, no... just created a shape on Mac a with a stroke and sent over to iPad and couldn't edit the stoke scale, I can change the colour. Maybe that's coming in a future update? Allan
  16. Hey Nikos, You can choose 'Save a copy' from the document menu and save a copy to iCloud to open on Mac, it will duplicate, so you'll have one on iPad and the other in iCloud. I know this is something the team are working on (syncing files between devices), but for now this is the way to get your .afphoto file from iPad to Mac and Mac to iPad, it just means managing manually until a solution is provided and iOS11 arrives with the new files app (which may help) Hope this helps. Allan
  17. Hi Yeeeoww, There isn't a 'scale with object' in Photo, you're going to need Designer for that, once they release it for iPad or use the desktop version. Unless I'm missing something, the only scale with I've seen is under the layer FX studio. Allan
  18. :D :D :D :D Only a few years on the forum and still not worked out how to upload images correctly....
  19. Nah, Just had trouble uploading... I have a 15inch screen so I normally resize to around 1100px width so it can be viewed without scrolling, but the quality ends up being so bad. SO, I upload high res but too big for the screen...
  20. -Survivor Another composite created in Affinity Photo for iPad, made up of about 7 images, went really dark on this one for some reason! *Edit: I've updated the image, this is version 3, I've made a few edits to the original Allan
  21. Thanks Miguel, Worked out on the latest project which was crashing every few minutes, that when working on a comp I have to open up each image in its own project, make my selection and refine then add to the main project, it all appears to work then... I normally would open all images in on project. Also noticed that the projects temporarily disappear when coming out of a project and going back to the home screen...
  22. Hey! Lovin' some of these new features, but still having issues with selections being really slow and crashing when choosing refine, it happens the first time round, after the crash and I repeat the selection, refine works , although extremely slow. Inpainting brush is also extremely slow on very minor edits... and once the selection and refinement has been made there is a delay of about 10 or so seconds when moving that object around... I've not experienced any changes of the above since the launch of 1.6.2 Thanks, Allan
