RenWaller got a reaction from EthanDM in Ability to Open/Create Template Files
I love using template files. Especially for brochures that have common sizes or rulers for folding or for different companies that require different sizes/specs for their layouts.
Unfortunately, right now, Affinity Designer will currently open an Illustrator file (which is great!), but it won't open an Illustrator template file (.ait). It would be wonderful if Designer would
Have the ability to make template files in the first place and Be able to open those types of files I have already made the switch from Adobe to Affinity, but would love if this was an additional option for the Affinity suite (i.e. Publisher being able to open .indt files and create template files).

That's an excellent workaround, thank you Vishnu!

I have a workaround for you to try. I am using the following process to use templates in my projects.
    1. Create a file in Designer that you would like to use as a template. Save it somewhere and close the file.
    2. Now navigate to the file in your windows file explorer and right click on it -> Properties. In the general tab, under 'Attributes' section you have to check "Read-only". This makes the file from overwriting.
    3. Now you can use the same file again and again without recreating the same.
    Hope it helps you
And I don't think that Affinity will support Illustrator templates, but lets hope Affinity may include their own template format in the future.

You can use the Arrow Shape, that has various terminator shapes but a stroke doesn't, alternatively, you can create the end shape  and snap it to the end of the stroke.

The functionality of the master pages is not yet perfect. But you can already hide a master page on a page. To do this you simply fade out the master layer in the layer panel.

I've been lurking on this forum for years now, and i've noticed the developers are very responsive to customer input. I wouldn't post here if they just ignored everybody like Adobe. Just remember they are actively developing the third part of the Affinity Trinity (publisher) and that is probably taking much of their manpower to get that application ready for launch.
The affinity apps are only in the 1.xx version range, the amount of polish and  the nearly complete feature set in such an early release of a full design suite is amazing. I find it's worth being patient. I'm confident they will iron out the quirks eventually.

    Hi RenWaller,
I'm assuming you are using Publisher. Is that correct? With the text frame selected go to menu View ▸ Show Text Ruler, then drag the left indent mark. Left Indent it's what's control the space (make sure the first line indent remains set to zero) in the Paragraph panel, Spacing section.
  10. Thanks
RenWaller reacted to MEB in Adding anchor points on curve
If it started with the Pen tool, you don't need to convert it to curves. To add an anchor point you have to click over the path with the Node tool. Here's a quick video.

Go to View > Customize Toolbar... and you'll get a whole bunch of things you can drag onto the bar.

And another +1. Data merge (especially for .xls and .csv) would be an excellent addition to this already great program.

But this way you can't see the other colors before you decide what suites you. Only after that when they are shown in "Swatches" palette.

Thank you Reglico, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Although I think it would be more user friendly if it actually showed the colors, but yes, thank you!

RenWaller got a reaction from angelhdz12 in Feature Request: Magic Wand Tool
    Hello,
I am seeing that there doesn't seem to be any sort of "magic wand" tool in Designer. I would love to be able to select all the shapes that are the same color so I can quickly change them all at once (instead of tediously going in to select each one). Is this a feature you think will be in a future update?
Thanks for all your work so far!

Yes Data Merge for filling up templates would be great. Our organisation has an REST-API which can e.g. deliver image urls and various other strings in JSON. Publisher would be great to automate process this data into beautiful templates which then can get printed. :)

Hello, one more vote for "data merge" tool like in InDesign. I use this function mostly for designing business cards and small catalogs, labels for boxes etc ... Everything, that have same desing and elements, that change always on same places and can be read frome some kind of database.

I have pinned this popular post to the top of the forum for others to find more easily. I cannot say if this will be implemented anytime soon, but clearly it would be desirable to you and others.

The Data Merge feature is more or less the only reason I had to use InDesign the last years. I had hope that this feature would be included in Publisher. Please add it!
