RenWaller got a reaction from Squark in PDF Editor
    Hey guys,
I love the Affinity Suite, and I made the jump from Adobe CS4 to Affinity several months back (and am very happy I did). One thing I am still lacking though is a good PDF editor. I need one that has basic page layout functions (add/remove/rearrange pages), but also has things like OCR capability. I know this isn't technically an Affinity question, but since the forums have been super helpful in everything else, I figured I would ask fellow designers here. Any recommendations?
    Thank you!

RenWaller got a reaction from Angelia in Color Scheme Generator
    Hello,
A feature that I would like to see in Affinity Designer is that of a "color scheme generator" of sorts - or at least a color guide that displays color harmonies (with tints and shades of each color). This guide would let you pick a color, and then would generate colors in different categories that would go well with that color (i.e. analogous, complementary, split complementary, etc.) If this is not yet available, I think it would be really helpful.
    Thank you!

I once encountered a similar problem with one of my clients. It turned out that she had replaced the system’s PDF reader with a free PDF not utility reader that also allowed her to modify PDFs to add annotations, for example. Removing this tool was complicated, but it solved the problem.

Thank you very much for your input @kenmcd! That's super encouraging.
I still think there's an occasional issue on my end, but nothing that regular. Thank you!

Yes, anyone should be able to view the PDFs exactly as created if the fonts are embedded (which includes the shapes), or if the entire document is converted to shapes (no actual text codes behind those shapes).
PDF viewers usually just show whatever is there.
The encoding issues usually only arise when trying to edit the PDF, where the codes behind those shapes matter. Still, viewing should be no problem.
If someone did create the PDF with actual text, and did not embed the fonts, then the encoding and the availability of the fonts on the users' system matters.
But you embedded all the fonts. There should be no problems.
That is what a PDF can look like when there is an encoding issue while the PDF is being created. And if that is the case - an encoding issue during creation - anyone opening that PDF would see that mess.
That look can also be the result of font cache corruption, again, while being created.
I looked at the PDFs you attached above and they display fine in multiple PDF viewers and PDF editors.
There is just a bit of embedding/encoding weirdness on the Arvo font, but just on characters included in the full font, but that you did not use in the document. So even though it is a bit odd, it should have no effect on viewing the PDF.
So I agree with @Hangman 's opinion that "the 'issue' is 100% at the client's end"
    And this...
"And today she said, "I’m not sure what’s going on with your files, but I can only open them on the web and any downloaded version says it is corrupt."
    ... seems to confirm that.
If the corruption issue is perhaps somehow caused during the upload of the PDF to make the file available for download, then others should see the same issues - which is why I asked for the actual download link you gave her.
If we can download it from the same link, and it is fine, then the issue is definitely at her end.

Is there maybe on the roadmap to add some PDF editor to Affinity Suite any time in the future?

@kenmcd, wow, thanks for checking all that, that's really helpful! It's encouraging to know it's not actually a PDF issue.
@Red Sands, @walt.farrell, @Old Bruce, thank you all for your insight! I've asked about what [one person] is trying with, but no answers yet. Thanks for the suggestions for helping with export! I use the PDF (for print) preset option, so it looks like those options are indeed checked, but the problem is probably still with the font I'm guessing.
    Thank you!

Opening the PDF in Designer and Publisher there is one weird thing which I noticed. The word "Farms" is made up of individual Frame Text Text Frames. Perhaps you could try converting that word to Curves and exporting. Also I don't have the font ArtelisRegular for the word "Farms" so that may be a problem for the people you are sending this PDF to.

The PDF opened fine with the following applications:

    PDF Editors and Readers
    -----------------------
    PDF-XChange Editor
    Nitro Pro
    Master PDF Editor 5
    Infix Pro
    Foxit PDF Editor
    Foxit PDF Reader
    FlexiPDF
    Browsers
    ------------
    Firefox
    Google Chrome
    Microsoft Edge
    Vivaldi (chromium)

    PDF Tools
    -------------
3-Heights PDF Analysis and Repair Tool - (no errors found)
    PDF Debugger
    PDF Explorer
It did open a bit slower in a few apps which means they had to do a bit of computing.
So the complexity may be an issue with some user's systems and applications.
Does not appear to be an issue with the PDF.

One comment: You say you are "in Photo from StudioLink". No, you're still in Publisher, in the Photo Persona. You would only be "in" Photo if you used File > Edit in Photo, or opened Photo directly. So it would probably have been better to have posted in Publisher Bugs rather than Photo Bugs. But that's just my opinion; if the Moderators care they'll move it there for you
As for your problem: You're painting with White, but its Opacity is 0% (see Color panel). Raise the opacity and it should work.

I am in Photo from StudioLink, and as you can see the paintbrush is selected, the color white is selected, and the mask layer is selected, but both the black and the white colors mask out the image, and the white doesn't paint the image back. (Where his mouth should be is where I have the brush.) At first I thought it was user error, but then it started happening again and I thought, "maybe I haven't lost my mind."

Is it just me or is this buggy?

I would imagine RenWaller is probably requesting the same font search capability when you open a document or PDF that doesn't have the correct fonts - really bugs me too that you can't just type in the first couple of letters, having to physically scroll through hundreds of fonts gets me down too

    Hello,
I love Affinity Publisher, but something that would be really helpful is if the font manager that opens when a document or PDF has missing fonts had a "search" function (i.e. when looking for a substitute font you could search, or type in a letter, of one you're looking for, and all of the options would come up). It would save a lot of time scrolling to get to the correct one.
    Thank you!

RenWaller got a reaction from EthanDM in Ability to Open/Create Template Files
I love using template files. Especially for brochures that have common sizes or rulers for folding or for different companies that require different sizes/specs for their layouts.
Unfortunately, right now, Affinity Designer will currently open an Illustrator file (which is great!), but it won't open an Illustrator template file (.ait). It would be wonderful if Designer would
Have the ability to make template files in the first place and Be able to open those types of files I have already made the switch from Adobe to Affinity, but would love if this was an additional option for the Affinity suite (i.e. Publisher being able to open .indt files and create template files).
