Dale reacted to Ash in Affinity is joining the Canva family
Hi All,
I am thrilled to announce that Affinity is joining the Canva family.
This is a moment of great excitement, anticipation, and profound gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story so far.
We know that those of you who’ve put your faith in Affinity, some since we launched our very first Mac app, will have questions about what this means for the future of our products. Since the inception of Affinity, our mission has been to empower creatives with tools that unleash their full potential, fostering a community where innovation and artistry flourish. We've worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, delivering professional-grade creative software that is both accessible and affordable.
None of that changes today.
In Canva, we’ve found a kindred spirit who can help us take Affinity to new levels. Their extra resources will mean we can deliver much more, much faster. Beyond that, we can forge new horizons for Affinity products, opening up a world of possibilities which previously would never have been achievable.
Canva’s revolutionary approach to design democratisation and commitment to empowering everyone to create aligns perfectly with our core values and vision. This union is a testament to what can be achieved when two companies that share a common goal of making design accessible and enjoyable for everyone come together.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible Affinity team. Your passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind our success so far, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all.
To our loyal users and the creative community, your support and feedback have been invaluable. You’ve inspired us to push boundaries and continuously improve, and we’re excited to embark on this new chapter together.
The future is bright, and I am incredibly excited to continue our story together and create a world where design is within everyone's reach.
With heartfelt thanks,
Ash

We have made four pledges to the Affinity community which you can read here. We have included some FAQs at the bottom of the announcement article here. A video message from me with some more background is on YouTube here. This announcement post is locked, but I have included a duplicate of it in the questions forum here which you can respond to.

Dale got a reaction from createneonsigns in Introduce Yourself
Hi, I'm Dale, copywriter, tech author, blogger, demonstrator and a few other things. I've joined the Mac lads (and ladies) so I can use and abuse Affinity titles and other Mac software and help make it shine on our website, in the press, and social media accts.
If you think the way Affinity apps are described is inaccurate or missing the point, hit me up and I'll make it better. If there's a tutorial you're desperate for, let me know and I'll raise it with the documentation team.
FYI the soppy little cat in my avatar is Rorschach.

He's definitely soppy, he loves morning hugs and nightimes asleep on my feet about as much as I do.

Affinity Animator could be amazing, better than a bloated Affinity Designer IMO.

Sounds like a candidate for another Persona, as an add on after the core apps are developed.

Dale got a reaction from Bourquin Florian in how to add fonts
Sorry if it appears rude to post a Google link - but I had to search online to find an answer for you, so you may as well see the information from the source to save me retyping it! :)
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=adding+fonts+to+a+mac&oq=adding+fonts+to+a+mac
It's something you do in the operating system rather than in any one design program. To find fonts, consider searching for royalty free OpenType fonts or free fonts - it depends on your needs. Some well constructed and attractive fonts can be very expensive, and that may or may not be worth it for you. Some designers here can also add more useful tried and tested resources to help further.
Best wishes.

Dale reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo for macOS - 1.8.4
Yes. an update of our macOS releases will be available very soon that will run on for Apple silicon hardware as our current 1.9.0 Photo beta does already. 1.8.4 will run just fine on Big Sur and will even run on Apple silicon (in compatibility mode), but all subsequent releases will be "universal applications" that run natively on any mac hardware.

Dale reacted to Leigh in [FAQ] Installer Errors, Setup Failed & Installer Windows UI Issues
Setup Failed Error If you’re getting an error Setup Failed when trying to install our app/update, please try the below suggestions. They should hopefully allow you to install our app/update without any further issues: Restart your machine and try the installation again Make sure you're installing the latest version of the app ( more information here ) Right click the .exe file and select Run as Administrator Make sure your machine isn't in the middle of installing updates - this can lock files needed to install our app/update Make sure your machine is fully updated by checking for any available updates Uninstall any previous versions of the software first using Microsoft's Uninstall Troubleshooter app (some errors have been caused by the installer being unable to remove the previous version) If you’re using an app, such as ImDisk, to modify where your TEMP directory is stored, please disable this and use the default Windows TEMP directory. Make sure you have the correct permissions to add/modify or remove folders within C:\Program Files\ Check Event Viewer to see if any additional information is provided regarding the error ( more information here ) Back to top

Dale got a reaction from Jon P in Affinity Publisher (1.7) Launch Announcement
Congratulations on this huge milestone. All three of the first apps conceived as part of an Affinity suite or platform, almost all on three OSes (incl a flippin tablet), with a single file format, saveable history, blistering speed, and a seamless workflow.
Not too shabby at all – well done to the whole team! Watched the Live video today, good to see so many Serif friends in it

Welcome to the forum, snuffles.
I think the team could be adding JPEG XR output in future along with deeper colour support.

Dale got a reaction from Besli in How to open Affinity files in illustrator
Hi Ahlam, you'll need to export from Affinity Designer in a format that Illustrator can open, say PDF. You've mentioned trying SVG, you can also try EPS if PDF Doesn;t work for you.
If the SVG didn't work for your friend, you could submit it here and explain what was wrong with the process, maybe it can be improved.
