    Hi everybody,
I've just released Affinity Designer: Solid Foundations and if you click the link you can get it at the 95% reduction in price. Or you can enter ADSOLIDFOUNDATIONS in the coupon field over at Udemy. The offer is valid until until 20th April  02:04 am PDT.
This course gives you a thorough grounding in the tools and techniques you need to know when you are producing good design. These tools and techniques are so fundamental that I make sure that they are covered properly and in detail. Practically every image you see is available as a download so you can follow along and I've also created many practice videos. Not a multi choice quiz where you just have to remember the name of a tool. That's not enough - you need practical task based exercises for a program like Affinity Designer and I give you exactly that. When you’ve tried out the exercises, come back to the video and I'll show you how I’d do the same task. I'll also give you some valuable tips about tools, techniques and workflow along the way so you can really nail down the fundamental concepts and be ready to move on to more advanced subjects.
After learning about vector based tools we'll tackle more topics about enhancing photos for use in your design work. Things like half a dozen different ways to select areas of your picture and the pros and cons of each. You’ll learn best working practices and be aware of gotchas while you learn about vector based shapes, text, artboards, gradients, selective colorization or pro level dodge and burn techniques. Layer blend modes? So many people get confused by them. Give me 20 minutes and you'll wonder why anyone would ever find them challenging. Learn the differences between vector shapes and bitmaps. Layer masks? So useful yet sometimes so confusing. Let me explain them to you and make them a vital part of your new skillset.
By the end of the course you will have mastered various effective workflows, start to finish. You will gain the confidence to tackle your own vector illustrations, be able to enhance photos, and one day soon you may well be looking at one of your own designs and thinking 'That looks fantastic! I did that...'
I'll see you on the course,
    Simon

    Hi Eroica,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
In Affinity Photo go to menu Filters ▸ Colors ▸ Erase White Paper. This may not work for all colour images without protecting the subject with a selection first as it was designed to remove white from black and white drawings/sketches.

In Affinity Designer (there's no filters here) select the layer, click on the cog icon on the top right of the layers panel to open the Blend Options dialog, then on the on the Source Layers Ranges graph (on the left), drag the right endpoint to the bottom and the left endpoint to the right until the white starts disappearing just around the borders of the elements (they become semi transparent) see screenshot below. You can also use this method in Affinity Photo.

Ninjag-O-G reacted to smallreflection in Batch layer rename/find replace + layer name shortcut
I know to some this may seem to be going too deep, but one feature that would be tremendously helpful in Affinity Designer for UI work is the ability to rename multiple layers or find and replace in a selection of multiple layers. When creating a lot of different similar layers, it's great to make a selection and be able to add or change a folder prefix, for instance. Adding the ability to create a shortcut for renaming a current layer also helps make things just a bit faster in heavy workflows. I use these in plugin form elsewhere and it saves tons of time.

Interested in computers, graphics, animations, games, vr, interactives and internet?
Computer graphics, animations and interactions are now self-evident. You just have to pick up your smartphone, tablet, desktop computer or what else and you feel intuitively when you have to swipe, click, drag or pinch zoom. You also expect nothing less than nice interfaces with smooth animations. But it wasn't always like this...
There were times where there were no editors like Photo and Designer, nor Illustrator, nor Photoshop, and even computers and animations of frames didn't exist...
I wrote a blog series of six where I like to take you on a journey through time with our focus on learning about the development before and during the creation of computers, digital graphics, animations, graphical interfaces, graphics software, interactivity, 3D, a pinch of the first games, the creation of the internet and a touch of virtual reality.
I have made more than 110 illustrations for this series with Affinity Designer and also provide each part with at least one interactive to bring the events alive as good as possible for you.
Part 1 is out there now! Hope you like it and I'm sure you learn something new from it and be surprised by some events! There will be a new part every month from now. Enjoy!

Ninjag-O-G got a reaction from AndyPhotoSJ in logo-ish thoughts?
I agree with firstdefence about making the letters in the second image smaller; I think the rest of it would work great without the filter though. Like you said, there's a lot going on and the normal amount of time people will see a logo (5-20-ish seconds from personal experience) won't be enough for them to take anything memorable from it.
