symbiont got a reaction from Dan C in Select same color fill over multiple Artboards Designer v2.1.1
@Dan C Thanks to the team for this investigation! I can recall using either hex directly, the color picker tool and the swatch. Mostly the swatch.

From our teams investigation, it appears as though there may be a rounding error for the colour applied to this object.
Interestingly, on Windows if you simply select the object, highlight the Hex field in the Colour Studio and hit enter (reapplying the same colour), then the Select Same function now works as expected.

I'm getting this rounding error logged with our developers now - out of interest do you recall how this fill was added to the object? Did you use the Colour sliders, type the Hex manually, or use a swatch perhaps?

    Thanks for your file provided!
There's no clear reason for this that I can see, if you change the fill for the object on the left to any other colour, then set this back using the same HEX code as the other 2 objects, it works as expected - but there's seemingly no reason this shouldn't work without the need to change and return the fill colour.
Therefore I've forwarded this file internally to be checked by our team, so ensure I haven't missed a clear reason for this to happen. Should we be unable to find a cause, I'll be logging this file with our devs as a bug.
In either case, I'll be sure to respond here ASAP with further information and action taken

GPU Hardware Acceleration in Affinity for Windows uses OpenCL, this is supported for AMD graphics cards, however there are known issues within the AMD drivers for OpenCL.
We have made improvements, both in 2.0 and 2.1 for AMD cards and OpenCL acceleration, however there is only so much we can do to improve this, due to the issues baked into the AMD drivers.
Therefore having this option enabled may not provide faster rendering for AMD cards, but we allow users to enable this on a system-by-system basis to test this.
I'm glad to hear that the lag is improved in 2.1 with this option enabled as that would indicate the changes our devs have made in this version have been beneficial, but as above this may not improve the overall rendering speed within the app due to the AMD driver issues.
With the option enabled, the app will be using your card to render the canvas, but as above we only have so much control when using OpenCL with AMD drivers. We have been working to improve (as seen in the 2.1 beta) and will continue to work on making this work as best as possible within Affinity, however we are limited to the performance gains we can provide due to the above.
'Multi GPU' is only recorded if your system has 2 or more GPUs, for example in Dylans screenshot it is shown that they have both an dGPU (RX 6700S) and iGPU (Radeon Graphics). dGPUs are dedicated graphics cards that are added to the system as standalone hardware, iGPUs are integrated graphics cards that are usually part of the CPU package.
It appears from your screenshot that your system does not have an iGPU, therefore no Multi GPU score is recorded.
I hope this clears things up!

symbiont reacted to diopside in Anyone else using Designer and/or Photo for cartography / mapmaking? (Example)
I'm curious if anyone else out there is using Affinity products for making maps? These days , probably >95% of cartographers make their maps almost entirely within GIS software, but I was always frustrated by the limited options and lack of precision for controlling stylistic elements on maps in those software suites (both QGIS and ArcGIS), so I figured why not outsource the styling to Affinity products
For those unfamiliar, mapmaking is not unlike standard graphic design. You have a document comprised of a bunch of different layers, some of which can be vector (like road lines, point data, etc.) and some of which can be raster (like elevation maps, aerial imagery, etc.). The only real difference is they are all encoded with spatial information. So what I started doing is using the GIS software just to compile and size (spatially aware trim/crop) all my different layers of geographic data, and then exporting a bunch of identically-sized layers that I then reassemble in AD / AP (i.e export a PDF of *just* the road lines, export another PDF of *just* the water body polygons, export a PNG of *just* the aerial imagery, etc.). As long as I maintain identical pixel dimensions for the exported raster layers, and identical aspect ratios for the vector layers, maintaining the appropriate map scale / size and reassembling the layers in AD/AP is trivial. Once I have all the data in AD/AP, I can take advantage of those graphic design features that GIS software could never hope to do, like advanced masking and layer blending modes, brush-based editing, pixel-perfect label placement (HUGE), etc. Another great thing is this method gives you ultimate control over design of the map frame and you're not stuck using the preset layouts and scalebars that are baked into GIS software suites.
The included example is a map I made for my mother last Christmas of the area where her ancestors settled 150ish years ago. Its sort of like a modern take on the classic USGS topo map styles from the 50's-80's.
(there are two typos I'm aware of, 'prairie' is misspelled in both instances, and 'convenience' is written as 'convenient' in the legend... if you see anymore, let me know!)
    cheers

    Hi,

For my fourth try in AD I wanted to illustrate at Omega Speedmaster watch. Think it worked out well :-). Still a few glitches here and there :-(

The hardest to figure out how to make was the wristband with the try to make it look woven. I did it with a costume made brush I made.

I am still amazed how well AD performs. Great to get under the skin of the software. I set my self these challenges (HTC Phone, Nexus phone, Bulb and this) so that I would be sure to really learn to use AD, not just fooling around.

Compared to how I usually does these illustrations Photoshop (Vector Layers), then AD is by far the easiest.

    Please enjoy!

If anybody is interested I can upload the original AD file.  UPDATE! I have added the AD original file also now.

In designers early days, ALT-clicking showed potential for a future 'Affinitized' isolation mode - it was just so frustrating that as soon as you tried to edit the isolated group it went back  to full preview - Still hold hope for this as it seems a far more seamless approach than illustrators where you can accidentally trigger isolation.
In Designer Alt-click a layer or group to isolate then click on any layer outside the isolated group for full preview seems to me like far more natural approach, although maybe the layers panel should reflect the isolation by ghosting layers outside the isolated group

Not too obvious at the first sight. Select one of the curves with the Node Tool. Then you'll see some artifact nodes (I don't know the correct word for this). I have them marked on the attached image. You have to delete these nodes several times. After cleaning up the curves you can do the Add operation.
    Darn, I was too slow.

symbiont reacted to James Ritson in Workspace and Navigator color mismatch
Hi symisz, unfortunately (for now at least) the navigator view isn't colour managed, hence the yellow cast—this would make sense as it looks like you have a screen grab open with an embedded display colour profile (Q2270), a BenQ monitor I think?
You could try converting the document's colour profile to sRGB (Document>Convert ICC Profile) to see if the colour cast goes away. Generally, however, we are aware that the navigator view isn't colour managed like the main document view, and it's hopefully something that will be fixed in a future version. Hope that helps!
