Dear developers, I have been using Affinity Designer for a while now, and I find it great, but it has some major flaws that make it sometimes very hard to use or, worse, made it necessary to swap back to illustrator (which is great but way worse organized than affinity, and it has the awful subscription service).

By adding and/or fixing these few things (most of which very easy I am sure), Affinity Ipad would be most definitely, and by far the best out there.

    In order of importance:

    1) FIX BOOLEAN OPERATIONS: these simply works badly, especially the divide tools, which creates hundreds of useless curves and nodes, and empty lines between divided shapes.

1 "part 2") SHAPE CREATOR: this is a killing feature that illustrator has, and it is missing here, please add it, it makes work flow sometimes SO MUCH EASIER and faster.

    2) SNAPPING TOOL/MAGNET: not working well, way too many options to adjust it, but still not precise when it comes to snap shapes and curves (as I have shown in the other forum section).

    3) FREE TRANSFORM/PERSPECTIVE VECTOR SHAPES & CURVES: just like this.

    4) AUTO SMOOTH CURVES TOOL: this is useful when it comes to quickly reduce unnecessary nodes in shapes, and simplify/make lighter the working process.

    5) CREATE PATTERN/REPEAT TOOL: this is extremely useful when it comes to create patterns, not sure why it is missing.

    6) TEXT CORRECTOR: please ADD the option to keep in UNCHECKED, or AT LEAST fix it, it keeps underlining correct words, it is an

PLEASE REALLY CONSIDER THESE POINTS, as I really think these would be loved by the whole community here.

The Boolean operator bugs is very frustrating, so I have to jump between vectornator & designer to do something that should be available in Affinity Designer

I hope it's true, however, I was not hoping for promises, more like a feedback that posts are read, so one knows it's not a total waste of time to use this section.

Hopefully they will fix and implement some of these things, I am being forced to switch to illustrators many times lately for the biggest projects, as it has some killing features, and honestly, I do not like to use illustrator if I can, I would like to stick to Affinity as much as possible.

It has been my experience that they don’t respond in the user forums.

That would be an option except for two things:

    • Illustrator for iPad is pretty junk.  Seriously, the drawing experience jarringly slow.  Strange because I had no problems with Adobe Fresco on the iPad.  It's not fully featured either, leaving a LOT to be desired.
    • Another monthly membership needed.  It' costs $10/month as a stand alone app (crazy rip off as it's not fully featured) might be worth it eventually.  Or if you have Illustrator on a creative cloud subscription, it's $20/month minimum.

That said, I end up using a combination of Designer, Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate and have to annoyingly bounce between the programs to be successful.  So I'm not saying don't use any program.  One day I hope to use only Affinity Designer only because Adobe creates half baked applications at exorbitant costs.  It's infuriating.

I use Illustrator both desktop and on the iPad, the iPad version isn’t junk, it’s actually pretty decent given that it was released back in October.  The boolean operators work consistently unlike Affinity Designers’ boolean bugs.  selecting & moving items is easy and intuitive.  I used to use Affinity Designer but just got tired of the random bugs in the app, and also grew tired of their lackluster response to fix these bugs.  I use the Shapebuilder in Illustrator often enough to justify paying for a CC subscription.

  4. And again, read my post.

Here’s why I say this is not a solution

    1. The item has to be in an unselected state initially
    2. If you move the item it changes to a transform state.  Any tap actions on the item in this state will transform the object.
    3. After you move the item you have to unselect it to change it from transform state to the unselected state then attempt to move it again.
    4. Repeat 1-4.  ad nauseum.

If I want to move the same item again, I shouldn’t have to deselect the item first before attempting to move it.  If I do not deselect the item after the first move, when I attempt to move the item a second time it will transform instead of moving the item (since it is already in the selected state which favors transforming over moving)

going through steps 1-4 that I described isn’t a workable ‘workaround’ to this problem.  Having to unselect an item before moving it is NOT a good workaround to the problem.

If this is a workaround that you feel comfortable with then that's fine.  It's not an ideal or even practical workaround for me and others.  If you disagree that's entirely up to you.  I paid for the app and others have also paid for the app so I don't think that it is out of order for people to voice their frustrations with using the app.

    Here’s what should happen:

    1. select the item
    2. move the item to a new position. or transform the item using the handles.
    3. unselect the item.

The Graphic app selection/move workflow is smooth and seamless.  You don’t have to worry about whether the item is currently selected or not just to move it.  In the attached video of Graphic you can see that you can move an item by selecting the item and moving it, or you can transform the item by using the handles.  Even if the item is currently selected you can move the item without transforming it since the only way to transform the item is by using the handles.

Maybe, but this is obviously a major issue for many people, me included.

Rather than Serif keep avoiding the issue, would it be so hard to put a 'move lock' in the software?

Maybe an on-screen modifier of some sort 'Force Move'.

It really does detract from what is otherwise a very nice piece of software.

    Don't be like Microsoft, please.

    1 Deny the issue

    2 Blame the user

3 Ask the user to re-install the software.

4 What issue, tell me again.

    5. Repeat the above from step 1

    6. We notified the developers and we thought the behavior changed in an update but we’ll let them know that it is still occurring

    7. No response.

Given the lack of any consistent response from them, I honestly don’t think they care.  Which is unfortunate.
