One thing that I like to do is a merge of old pictures into new ones.
These are from the beautiful Swiss city of Basel. There in the Stadtarchiv you can find digitalized pictures and photographic collections by the oodle.
Then it´s just a case of taking the new picture at the same angle and compensating for the different optical properties of the different camera´s used, in my case an i-phone in the case of the original photographer something out of a steampunks´ wildest dreams. To emphasize this I have left the distortion of the original image in the frame.

Smee Again got a reaction from KIKKC in A Little Better Now . . .
Still shooting mostly auto while I'm getting used to using my new camera. Had to replace my old Canon (probably 15 years old) that I got from my brother back in 2013 after he had pretty much wore it out. The body's autofocus was a manufacturer's defect. It was one of the first DSLR's . . . and besides, no one could take 10,000 pics in a life time. Thus the defect rendered the AF dead.
The lens works fine though because I put it on my EOS T7 yesterday and it works fine. Got to take a few shots this morning. I think the results are better.
Finally got to cut the grass because the yard had dried enough that the push mower wouldn't bog down, so these are all just a memory from this morning.

Ah yes, now that is much better! Nice sharp petals and the bee not blured due to motion blur. All in all a very good photo! Well done!

Smee Again got a reaction from TomSmithNaturePhotographer in Best I could do . . .
I love spring time! (Except for the snakes, spiders, etc that "come alive" all over) Lots of great subjects for closeup and macro photography.
Got a few shots of a bee gathering pollen from a thistle. The images probably need more work, but just got a new camera that won't require (I hope) as much sharpening to get a decent image.

Smee Again reacted to Murfee in Layer opacity vs. fill
We are getting the divide blend mode in 1.9, is there any chance we will be getting the layer fill mode to complement the special 8 blend modes...hope so 😀

Smee Again reacted to S. Schraebler in astronomy photos
This is the Embryo Nebula aka IC1848 in Hubble Palette as I obtain it by just combining S[II], Ha and O[III] as RGB and the final version with tone mapping, selective color and removing a lot of green from the image.

Smee Again reacted to Slammer in P80 Shooting Star
I have always liked the clean lines and the form of America´s first jet fighter, the Lockheed P80 Shooting Star.
This has been done by switching between Designer and Photo and I am getting the shading the way I want to, but I really need to keep the layers under control, after the first 200 I lost track.

Smee Again reacted to VectorWhiz in Renault Alpine A110 vector drawing
My all time favorite car drawn in Affinity Designer. It is a work in progress and a lot still has to be done, but this stage already shows where I am heading for. Update sequence and info in my portfolio blog:

Smee Again reacted to Graham L Furlonger in Focus Stacking / Microscopy
Hello Forum,
I am posting this because I searched on "Microscopy" "Entomology" and "Focus Stacking" and saw few if any results, I may be in a minority?......
Having spent many years perfecting Microscopy with Entomology and recently converting from a well know rival, I was impressed with the power of Focus stacking within Photo. These two images were taken with modest equipment and a Canon 50d digital SLR dating from 2008 and a Brunel MX1 Stereo Microscope with 1x Objective, 10x Oculars, Giving resolution power of 10x, plus magnification of the camera. Whilst I have DSLR's with much higher pixel resolution, it is often not required and extends processing time, the 15 mp sensor
These two images comprise multiple shots (35 & 24) focus stacked within Affinity Photo.
I won't bore you with the technical details, but if you want them you can message (I am happy to share)
Affinity has saved me exporting my images to a third party software which has enhanced speed of operation and ease of use, one thing to note is that the Affinity software is not too picky on the order of focus slices presented, which is a major benefit to other rivals.
Of course this technique could be useful to many area's of photography including, jewellery for record purposes, medical, veterinarian, instruction manuals and service documents where close up work results in very narrow depth of field.
Enjoy your photography and enjoy using Photo.
Regards
Graham.

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Photo).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for Windows) can be downloaded from this link. (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Smee Again got a reaction from bananayoshimoto in Pavement artist composite
. . . and if your wife works with them in the house, the dust gets everywhere as well.
She just loves them, but the finished product is about as permanent as the colors on a butterfly's wings it it gets touched. This picture was a smaller one done with pencils. About 6" wide by 5" tall.
The neat thing about doing them on the art paper she uses, it's like watching a very slow color printer. She has to start from the top and work to the bottom to keep from damaging what she has already done.
