Smee Again reacted to bodobe in Semi realistic drawing with Affinity Designer (Pixel Persona)
“Bernadette” is a semi-realistic drawing that I created with Affinity Designer. AD is a (truly) excellent tool for vector graphics, but it also offers the best conditions for creating drawings and digital painting in the pixel range.

Best regards, stay healthy 😌

Yes, everyone has their own way. I draw like on paper, so with a pen. That is the best way for me.

Smee Again reacted to VectorVonDoom in Porsche 917K Daytona Winner (AD)
My main complicated drawings are taking ages so I thought I would work on a few easier ones at the same time. This is the first to be finished.
For me Gulf Racing is the most iconic colour scheme in motor racing and I’ve been meaning to do a 917 but never got around to it until now. Unsurprisingly there aren’t a whole lot of overhead shots of it so this was based on photos of the 1:8 scale die cast model by Amalgam Collection. Very high end, about £10k but bespoke can apparently cost up to £120k. Not something to let the kids play with.
On the Porsche 917K’s public debut at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, John Wyer's Gulf-sponsored team finished 1-2 in the race. The winning number 2 car driven by Pedro Rodríguez, Leo Kinnunen and Brian Redman broke the distance record by 190 miles.

Smee Again reacted to WilcoDesign in Racing poster design
Used Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher to make a poster for a digital racing event.
I´ve used the Adobe software for 12+ years so this is my first project using the Affinity software, it took some time to get used to it but liked it alot!
Alle cars where separate screenshots and I've worked them in one image.
The main design can be used in several different sizes, like a social media posts or a wallpaper.
I've used the same techniques as I used for this poster I made a year ago for the real life counterpart of this racing series.
I hope you like the design

Smee Again reacted to Chromosome in Insect Image focus stacking
New to Affinity Photo and wanted to explore the capabilities and caliber of Affinity Photo in comparison to that of Photoshop. I really enjoyed processing these images in Affinity Photo, and impressed with its speed and abilities. Image one is a stack of 27 images and the second one is from ~80 images. Images were acquired with a Sony A6000 camera with a 55-210mm lens by using a Raynox macro adapter.
Thank you for visiting.
Have a nice day!

Smee Again reacted to unni in Passion flower - Before-After Editing
The original, straight out of camera and edited image along with the layer stack details are given below.
This is to give an idea of the work flow and results before/after sothat it may be useful to the viewer to get
some feel of the process.
First, a B&W layer was made after adjusting the sliders in the B&W adjustments. The end result is a bright area for
flower and dark area for background leaves. Use Levels to further increase contrast between bright and dark area.
This forms the base layer (lower most)for masks. By pressing CNTRL+ALT+left click on this layer a selection can be made. This selection
can be used on other adjustment layers. In some cases, the selection is inverted to make flower area dark and leaves
bright. I also slightly gaussian blur the selection inorder to avoid halos. Now the rough base mask is ready.
The few selective colour adjustment layers are for enhancing the colours of various parts of the flower. So Each such adjustment layer
is initially made fully black by "invert" and then with a white brush, it is painted to reveal the required parts. This is simple and rough painting
with brush at 100% fill. The HSL layer is used to shift the leaves colour to a greener shade using its sliders.
The Darken leaves and brighten flower adjustment layers have the mask applied. Some rough touchup of mask with brush will be required
to make transitions smooth and balance the image. As an example, In Darken leaves curves adj layer, the mask is white for the leaves and dark for the flower.
Then the curve is brought down around mid point. This will darken only leaves. A blur of about 15 pixels is also given to the adj layer to avoid halos.
The sharpen layer has bright area only for the flower. So the leaves will not be sharpened.
Thanks for viewing !
Best Regards,
Unni

Smee Again reacted to tom d in Hagstrom Viking. Thor's Axe
Thor’s Axe.
This is my Swedish made Hagstrom Viking.
It’s a vector drawing done with affinity designer on my Mac. If it wasn’t for the shutdown I’d never have done it. This is the kind of stuff I've been killing time with.
Bet you didn’t know that Thor had more than a hammer.

Smee Again reacted to TomSmithNaturePhotographer in This is what you get when you turn your DLSR lens the wrong way round...
It turns into a macro lens.
Nikon D5300, AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, Raw format, 67 mm lens reversal ring for £10.99. Not bad. A normal macro lens could cost more than £300.

Smee Again got a reaction from KIKKC in A Little Better Now . . .
Still shooting mostly auto while I'm getting used to using my new camera. Had to replace my old Canon (probably 15 years old) that I got from my brother back in 2013 after he had pretty much wore it out. The body's autofocus was a manufacturer's defect. It was one of the first DSLR's . . . and besides, no one could take 10,000 pics in a life time. Thus the defect rendered the AF dead.
The lens works fine though because I put it on my EOS T7 yesterday and it works fine. Got to take a few shots this morning. I think the results are better.
Finally got to cut the grass because the yard had dried enough that the push mower wouldn't bog down, so these are all just a memory from this morning.

Smee Again got a reaction from Alfred in Shutdown + New Camera + Affinity = FUN!
When I showed up at work on April 6, 2020 I was informed that I had been laid off because of fears over the Corona virus pandemic. Well, that just gave me back about 11 hours of daylight to use until work cranks back up (or I decide to go ahead and opt for early retirement). So I went home, ready to file for unemployment.
When I got home, got a call. A local business saw this as a good time to invest in a new website, and I was his choice. It would require lots of coding, pulling out some of the few strands of hair I have left, and photography. So I grabbed my Nikon and struck out to capture the images I would need. However, my old Nikon just didn't have the quality I needed for my web design shots. It showed when I got home and started editing the images.
I had already been looking at purchasing a used DSLR camera, but I hate to buy something someone else has already abused. So, figured I would kill two birds with one stone. I still kept the budget small (around $300.00 US) but made the jump, making the purchase with the income the customer paid down for me to start production.
Then I realized that, since I would be using the new camera for photos for web design, I would need (clears throat) to "practice" with the new camera in order to get proficient when operating it. This would also give me an opportunity to hone my editing skills because we all know that no matter how good an image is you will need to do some kind of tweeking before you can use it.
So, I guess it was a good investment. I know my images are working better. With less time spent trying to bring out detail from poorly recorded images, I'm able to spend a bit more time trying to be artistic with my editing.
Be safe, be well . . . make pictures.

Smee Again got a reaction from Slammer in A window to the past
Great work! I really enjoy doing that type of thing. Almost all of mine have been of sights in New Orleans, LA USA (My home town).
I do mine a little different, but it brings me a lot of satisfaction to also "colorize" the images.

It was taken by reversing my AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Nikon lens.
Camera: Nikon D5300
File format: RAW (that's how I got the amazing tonal range)
