Smee Again reacted to Kasper-V in Forgotten dreams
This began life (or was resurrected -- see below) when I was fourteen, at school in 1965 when Games was rained off and I started doodling in a notebook whatever came into my head. I've still got the notebook somewhere, but I can't lay my hands on it just now to show you the original scribble.
But here's the weird creepy thing ... ten years or so later I was idly flipping through a book, A Century of Creepy Stories, at a friend's house, when I came to an illustration ... that was my teenage doodle! It was different, obviously, but had all the elements: the old man, the long-case clock, the water ...
And then I remembered ... when I was seven, we had a caravan holiday in Cornwall. Under my bed, I found someone had left a book ... A Century of Creepy Stories!
The room is by Vidar Nordli Mathisen from unsplash; the bath from a photo by Max Murauer from unsplash; the clock and the wooden posts are my own photos; the other elements I borrowed from the internet.

Smee Again reacted to Kasper-V in Juvenilia redux
On a whim I found myself looking over some stuff I did in the sixties. After I finished 'Forgotten dreams' I thought it would be fun to remake some of the other doodly stuff. Many days later, here they are. The originals were made on A2 cartridge paper (some from a quarto notebook original doodle) and the Affinity versions are A3 (and over 500MB!)
Former doodle, worked up into this ...
If you're wondering, the chap in the tree is Patrick Troughton, second Doctory Who; in the boat are Prime Minister Harold Wilson and George Brown (and the head of General de Gaulle). The helicopter could be piloted by Prince Philip.
This was intended to be the first of a series of illustrations to Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, the Beatles' song. I had the last one sketched out -- newspaper taxis, Plasticine porters, a train in a station -- but never got past the pencil stage. I was very influenced by the fantastic colour patterns in soap bubbles in the sixties, and the swirly designs in the old pic were an attempt to capture them. It's much more fiddly to do in digital, and I tried something a bit different here. Needs more work, but it's a promising technique.
For Christmas 1967 I got a record player! So I started buying LPs (albums, if you prefer). Then I decide I needed something to protect them when I was carrying them outside the house: two stiff sheets of cardboard, which I lined with cartridge paper and decorated. (I'm still looking for the other side.)
The chap on the left is Bob Dylan, from a photo (that I can't locate); on the right is Stan Webb of Chicken Shack. And at the back, that popular bluesman ...
Despite an appeal of social media, I couldn't find a copy of that pic, so I had to replace Bobby with another photo. I had no idea how few photos show him standing (bit with hos feet cut off) or sitting (but with his legs cut off). The original photo was in a Dylan songbook that's hiding in the attic somewhere.

Able to get out today for a few shots. Decided to try a different composition method than I'm used to using.
All in all, a good afternoon in the hottest part of the southeast Arkansas day.

Smee Again reacted to Timespider in The 60s Are Back
Had another go at a vector. It's not finished (bumper needs a bit of work) and as usual probably not graphically correct with lighting shadows etc. I find that stuff hard to do.
The only bits that aren't vectors are the 2 windows. I thought it looked better this way looking into the van & seeing the seats & back windows.
My first posted work here Yamaha MX Bike

Smee Again reacted to Slammer in Bugatti 100P
In my humble opinion the Bugatti 100P was the most beautiful airplane never built.
Ettore Bugatti´s 100P was built as an unlimited racer in 1939 and was not completed by the outbreak of the war. It remained in storage until 1971 when it was restored.
In 2016 a replica sadly crashed killing the pilot.

Can't speak for others, a download link does nothing to pique my interest, and usually steers me away from a post.
Better to convert to JPG and include in post.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Chocolate Hobnob.
Very nice work, but it would be good to see the ‘straight out of camera’ versions to help us appreciate how much effort was involved in achieving those impressive end results.

Great palette and composition. Hope you will recover all the way. Fortunately there still are wary nurses that really care for the well being of their patients. Good to see you back on the creative track.

A great image! It certainly does have a water-coloury feel.
And great to have you back! Here's to your continued recovery.

Smee Again reacted to Jonopen in Weevil drawing
Hi all
This image (made for fun as a learning exercise) was inspired by a drawing by the scientific illustrator, Des Helmore.
I must confess my version is not a completely accurate representation of the original weevil beetle, and is also a work in progress, as it needs more detail (hairs) and better shadow and highlights etc. It was originally drawn in colour, but looks more interesting in black and white.
It was made using Affinity Designer and mainly uses these resources.
Dots on legs and body: Fineliner brushes and vector texture from Artifex Forge (makes loads of excellent brushes)
Organic texture: DAUB paper 15 from Paolo Limoncelli, who did an excellent 2020 creative lock-down session
Background texture: a texture file from Trevor Young's (Tapocketa) lock-down session (also very excellent!).

Smee Again reacted to John Rostron in I need your opinion on this
That entirely depends on what you want to use the image for! For example, your boy looks perfectly adequate to me for a birthday card image.
I would agree with that.

Smee Again got a reaction from madame fleur in Finally back!
Spent a couple of weeks in the hospital recently. Among other problems, I was afraid I was losing my eyesight due to severe complications resulting in internal bleeding. The doctors sent me home with a blood count of 6.1 and some medications that made my problems worse. Thank goodness for the Home Healthcare Nurse who took the time to study my discharge papers and find the "stop this medication" notices kind of hidden there. In 2 days I lost almost 20 pounds of fluid and the top of my feet stopped hurting when I walked.
Enough depressing stuff!
This image uses two photographs. One is a bit of concrete that had an interesting pattern and the other was of some dahlia flowers in our garde. I used "blend-if", a color fill layer using soft light blend mode and a duplicate fill layer using subtract blend mode. To finish it off, added a bit of gausian noise.
Was going for a sort of watercolor feel.
