Jowday got a reaction from norbinw in Expand Stroke changes appearance
CorelDRAW. They threw it at me. But possibly more discounted where I currently am than world wide. And because who I am.
I have two setups; my business machines with Adobe CC - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and CorelDRAW as well besides a whole bunch of other programs.
I tried to keep the cost on my private computer down - I spent a fortune on licenses for photography and RAW development apps (also running Photoshop on private computer) besides cameras and equipment of course. The vector work I make on my private computer doesn't justify an Illustrator class program. Or so I thought. It was a delight to draw with a program that had a new approach to the pen tool (Designer) but oh boy the rest. The missing features. The stray nodes. The boolean errors. The usability. And the waiting. I honestly believed Serif had taken a few steps up the ladder. Nope.
I also have Gravit Designer. But same issues. Few features. So I purchased CorelDRAW as an economic compromise - and in a weak moment. I didn't use it much the last decade but I have had just as much fun using it. And a creative rush. Habit and muscle memory protested the first days then I just created and created.
So whatever they charge you, pay. It is an investment and you are out of the Serif cell with constant limitations...walls, ceiling. The moment you have all the tools available in programs since the 90's you can play and create without wasting days or hours on manual work. Or not doing something. The hype is indeed over.

Jowday got a reaction from Jenna Appleseed in images are not clear and blurry
First of all 300DPI is for printing. It doesn't matter. Set it to 96 for web use for good measure.
My guess is that you are viewing the output image in a program that scales it or does something to it. The PNG output is and was fine.

Jowday got a reaction from Carajp in [Usability request] Default gradient colors
The default gradient is white to grey - it should be white to black like in fx Photoshop
Black to white is the most widespread colors used on layer masks in photography - and it is a pain to change the grey color stop to black in Photo. And every bloody time you draw a gradient it defaults to useless grey.
Here is Photoshop's gradient toolbar - ready for an efficient workflow:

Not in the latest beta no - and I can't imagine it will be fixed in 1.9 then. Really 'awesome' and 'amazing' yes.
Actually Serif is still struggling with vector and math - try to merge the two expanded strokes into one shape - alternate or winding fill does not matter:
Lets quote Serif Software:
"Affinity Designer is setting the new industry standard in the world of design" "Best in class for creating concept art, print projects, logos, icons, UI designs, mock-ups and more" "No bloat, no gimmicks, just all the tools you need, implemented how you always dreamed." "Affinity Designer is a stripped back, pro-end workhorse that will always get your job done." Stripped down to a few buggy essentials that works the way 'we always dreamed' ??? This gets our job done, always? How is this a new industry standard? What industry? What class?
Put your money where your mouth is, Serif.

Jowday reacted to drjskatre in Lost all macros
I shouldn't have updated this time. Not only I lost all my collection of macros, I can't save them anymore. Everytime I start the application, I find only the default macros and nothing I made in the last session. Can I go back to earlier version?

Jowday got a reaction from harrym in Why no Bitmap mode?
The Affinity forums are scarred and diffused by unqualified opinions and lack of business and real world usage knowledge. It is sad to see how request threads are distorted and disturbed by amateurs with opinions for years with no end in sight. Serif may or may not change Affinity to support it. But they may change their minds. Look at WebP. The real world usage may lead Serif to a new decision despite earlier rejections of WebP. People share their needs and requests here for Serif to notice it and take notes. What follows in the request threads is often proof that Serif has ever so few professional users in reality. Should professionals visit this forum they will notice this immediately.
The lock-down and vacation is over for me and I am again working with creative and skilled professionals on weekdays in my office. I had forgotten how big the contrast is coming here.

Jowday got a reaction from bananayoshimoto in Bad vector handling
You are all hoping for a miracle. One that probably wont happen. That is how miracle works. They exist merely in your head. And if ... perhaps in 5-10 years time. What are the odds really? And will it - when finally implemented - be worth the wait? Or suck? What kind of superb vector expertise did you see traces of so far? Or CMYK ditto. And you certainly did not see any kind of vector feature ambitions in Designer. "A stripped down workhorse" hahaha. Stripped down indeed. But you are the work horse! With a hammer and screwdriver from IKEA.
And the financial injection from the hope - version 2.0! - will Serif change much? Hire more people? Usability experts? Vector experts? Or will they do as they always did, develop a little from time to time and focus on marketing. Behind them dragging a trail of "hopetimistic" costumers with a small budget and thus not much choice. It is all a dream. A fantasy. Beggars can't be choosers - they hard fact behind all this.
Invest in your own future on Cyber Monday! All the features you seek exist! But you are not getting them in McDonalds. And you will never, ever get a real meal in McDonalds. The concept and its (lack of) potential is obvious.
So waste time and opportunities (and fun)... or...

Jowday reacted to GeoH in Color Picker (Eyedropper in PS) for black, grey and white point in Curves Panel
I agree - this is a great feature in Photoshop, I am using it in particular for colour corrections on (old) photo and slide scans.
Very much needed, indeed!

Jowday reacted to LuBre in Preference for default zoom to not exceed 100% in Photo
This post is more than 4 years old and we're still here begging for such a simple thing.
Serif, for the love of God, can you give us a feedback?
Working on a 34" 4K ultra-wide screen is a pain in the /\ss. This "zoom to 100%" thing is just unbearable when I open multiple images at the same time.
Please, please, please...

Jowday got a reaction from lepr in Preference for default zoom to not exceed 100% in Photo
It is scary that Serif has no insight in workflows with small images and obviously no professional users involved.
It is depressing that the few lines of code involved in this and the tiny effort required to remedy this user interface madness has not yet been allocated and prioritized.
”Serif Software - We will make you wait!”

Jowday got a reaction from sambader in [ADe] Is there any line smoothing? (implemented)
This is a well known workflow among Ilustrator professionals; the smoothing you make with this tool saves time and is efficient. And no matter why you need to smoothen something the feature is there and it works! Fx Imagine you traced something into vector (Oh my! Affinity can’t do that either!!) then simplify and smoothen tools are priceless. If you have a disability or just play with the curves these features are great!
Drawing with the stabilizer is clumsy, slow and artificial. It is like running in water.

Jowday got a reaction from Rudolphus in Node Tool, Click+RightMouse is mechanically difficult
Click + Alt could simply be a toggle type node like in other programs. No need to make it more complicated than that - and easy to remember (important). 🙂

Jowday reacted to semaja2 in Export to .BMP
Since we are still being asked, I’ll recomment with my usage being microcontrollers and pax handsets etc
To extend on this, in some cases they also require various bmp settings (2 bit etc)
I find it odd so many other weird formats are supported, but a classic format is still not supported after years
