25% is a bit high for a fragmentation threshold, isn't it? My raster_brushes.propcol is a 3GB file even after deleting quite a few brushes. That is perhaps 600 - 700MB of wasted space right there. Foverever if the user doesn't add or remove brushes anymore. Could hurt on laptops with smaller SSD's. Perhaps you should trigger the defrag monthly as well.

Sigh. A new low. Believe it or not, some people actually learn and produce without living their life on a forum.
I used Adobe for decades without a single post on the Adobe forums. But I did read a lot. And followed tutorials. I never had to post anything. Plenty of knowledge out there and plenty of features in Adobe CC. I believe @Nikon Shooter did the same.
But why are you questioning him and his honesty, Internet Judge Alain P. ? I often see many users here as member of a semi-religious cult rather than a user base of creatives. Question the product and the usual responses pop up. Some users here could use auto replies posted by first generation chat bot tech. Would probably save them for several hours a week. The replies doesn't help Serif or the product development by the way.

Just a quick unscientific example of how the paragraph composer in InDesign CC 2021 helps with its even most basic default settings. The document was quickly created in InDesign without any tweaks - just default settings. Then saved as IDML and opened in Publisher 1.9, beta 452.
First row InDesign Second row Publisher, default settings, as is Third row Publisher with "prevent widowed first lines" ticked 1. Notice the tightly composed and well balanced boxes of text (inDesign) 2. Notice the widowed first line in second box (Publisher) 3. Notice the sudden white blank area in box one bottom part - entire lines moved - no balancing of content performed (It looks horrible) (Publisher) You can waste half your life tweaking, fixing and "debugging" layout in simple or buggy software. I retired PagePlus and skipped Publisher for some minor documents made in a professional context (I used PagePlus just to try some other programs and add spice to my work life). Ten years later I just haven't got time for unnecessary tweaking or software shortcomings. Publisher is not a candidate for my work until it actively helps me.
Deadline close, knee deep in minor issues like 2. and 3..... no thank you. Never again.
So before Serif makes their own paragraph composer engine - I'll pass on Publisher. But I cannot imagine they won't. I would be delighted to participate in the work if I was them. It is not just adding buttons and straightforward to understand features to the product. Trying to add aesthetics, balance, automatic solving of classic minor issues and "layout wisdom" to software sounds more interesting than much I have tried and heard of for a long time.
And... it can really really be seen when it works. Pages just look... natural. Pleasing.

The unofficial Affinity Designer manual - probably made in PagePlus - to make cross references (!!!), footnotes and endnotes possible - would look like this, @MxHeppa

So a similar "1001 Workarounds for Affinity Publisher" could be handy as well

Doing it the wrong way from the very beginning - when starting from scratch on new tech and architecture - without user experience designers is surely not the right thing to do for a small company.  It is the biggest chance missed ever.
Photoshop. Easy peasy to use and understand:

Jowday got a reaction from Barry Newman in Story editor - mandatory
I need a story editor to use this software. Like the editor in PagePlus, inDesign or Scribus for that matter. Not as a word processor of course, but as a simple tool where I can adjust the content of the imported text and make final adjustments. Like I am used to in PagePlus.

Jowday got a reaction from flobnoit in How about having a different function for Alt+mouse wheel
I don't think anyone ever asked for it in Publisher. It is very useful when drawing in Designer and Photo, not so much in a DTP program. The thing is the three programs share almost all code and functionality so clashes of interest like this will happen. This also means Serif must consider possible action.
Optimally Serif should identify these clashes and offer customization options to remedy the situations. Users of Publisher that never make art or illustrations in Designer/Photo will rarely understand or need rotation of the page. Perhaps in Publisher it should rotate the page in steps of 90 degrees instead. Whatever makes sense to customers.
So indeed needs are different. But instead of repeating that which leads absolutely nowhere I would recommend what I just said; that Serif adds customization where it resolves such issues.
    Ah, the benefits of LISTENING.

Rolling my eyes. We are not supporting a poor company in a third world country that hasn't got the funds to implement such features before several years pass. Affinity got both a lot of attention and hype and went far beyond a critical mass of paying customers. They are doing just fine. Wake up and smell the coffee!
This is not a kickstarter. You are paying customers and remember that this company is decades old and made similar more mature software with these features until recently (plus series). Did so for many years. You don't have these features because someone decided you shouldn't. Yet. Or ever. You don't know. It is all about business priorities and scaling. Designer obviously gets the least attention and features. I still don't believe Serif has the vector expertise or the required number of developers with this expertise to push Designer further in bigger steps than we have seen (tiny steps). I don't see the evidence. Publishing software was always Serifs pet project and flagship product so lets see if Designer ever gets the love and features it needs to become more than a tool for digital painters (bitmap). Niche software. Half of Designer - the pixel features - are shared with Photo. 99% of vector brushes are in fact pixel brushes. The other half is so feature weak it is depressing. The toolbar in the designer persona is mostly shapes. Shapes!
So it it perfectly valid to air criticism and wishes here. The very high number of posts with feature requests and customers asking in disbelief why nothing happened about this and that yet tells a story about where Designer should go to evolve and serve existing and potential customers. Stiff opposition from a core base of forum users (of which ever so few are more than hobby users with simple hobby needs and no insight whatsoever into more professional use and needs) is just not what is needed for Serif or from the customers requesting these features. It is ludicrous.
Cheap doesn't matter. As a vector drawing program Designer is not cheap because it has so few and just basic vector features. It doesn't cost "coconut money" whatever that is. Possibly an offensive term in Sweden. Designer is a simple product and you get only what you pay for. Not much more. Besides the great user interface that Serif really did well. Many small programs are actually often overpriced when you see how much you get for four times the price in professional software. But you will never reach that level of knowledge without experience and expertise. What REALLY is expensive in the short and especially long term is workarounds. Again something hobbyists doesn't see or feel.
So let the customers voice their concerns, wishes, criticism and input. Let Serif handle its unsatisfied (potential) customers and communicate the reasons for this and that. In a more professional tone.

Jowday got a reaction from François R in [Usability request] Add New fill layer to layers panel and more
Do it for the children, at least:
Add New fill layer to the layers panel - it makes no sense to isolate it in the layers menu. When the fill layer is created - it would be a good idea to pop up a colour picker like Photoshop does - chances are... that will be your next step in your workflow. It simply speeds up the workflow and saves you time and swear words.

Jowday got a reaction from oscarlosan in "Scale with object" isn't working
It doesn't; that's why scale with object would be a better default setting in the software itself than not (as now). There is no way to add the setting to sublayers quickly if scaling for some reason is not activated.

Well, guess what, Designer trying to preserving the shape when deleting nodes is kind of implemented. No way as good as in Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Inkscape or other vector programs. But it is not enabled by default. Argh.
And the keyboard shortcut on Windows is.... Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. Mac Alt + Delete. Worlds apart. So I had to google it - I had once again forgotten all bout that illogical shortcut.
It is not possible to assign another shortcut for it - but you can assign a keyboard shortcut for the cat tool.

Jowday got a reaction from Intuos5 in Fill and Stroke color inside the tool bar
Of course. The reason why it is not shown in the single column mode is really because it requires extra code and development because of an initial wrong design decision. Look below. Adobe simply developed a responsive color chooser - problem solved.
But I can't use something that is not there and thus my request. You assume it is active all the time on the top right - but I activate several studio tabs all the time and constantly have to reactivate the color studio tab no matter how I arrange them. And I work a lot with the studio panels hidden (control + shift + H) - now not knowing if black or white or whatever is selected, especially annoying when working with layer masks. So we are back to why Adobe made a responsive color chooser in their widely used programs: people need it there for good reasons.

There is not - I also don't understand why clicking the node with alt pressed doesn't just toggle the node type.
CorelDRAW has keyboard shortcuts for toggling nodes into the desired (specific) node type and it is exactly what I need. One key-press and I get exactly what I want. It shows understanding of how people work and what they actually need.

Being Danish I love it. Great work. My input:
The shield doesn't for me at all - almost. 🙂 The bevel part of the shield looks like any other bevel I have seen and the style of the entire shield should be in greater harmony with rest of the content. I would make it look a lot more like the original. 2D and simple. Now it has a moderne sterile style that doesn't match the excellent flags and stuff you masterfully recreated in the background. It is also a shame the original details on the border of the shield were lost in the process. The shield is the focus point and centre after all. And the original shield is beautiful! No bevel can compete with it. Experiment with more clarity on the ropes - perhaps not as much as the originals but closer to that. Unless you observe the coat of arms on a big screen / big print it will just look like think strokes.  Replacing the original Swedish "mix of crowns and lions" with just Tre Kronor is fine. Easier to decode for the eyes - I guess swedes will accept it too.  Fascinating stuff to work with, eh? 🙂
