Does anyone know if there a method or workflow of somesort on how to achieve either one of these attached type of images?  Apparently they are usually referred to as  'Divided' or 'Split photo's' ~ They've been done in something call Photoshop 🤷🏻‍♂️ if that's any help  ~  but either way, I just don't know how to go about achieving the effect.  I'm guessing its probably using Layers 'n Masks but beyond that I dunno.   Thanks for any help supplied 😉

@StevenS thanks for the reply. It would be great to add the ability to remove expired betas from accounts. For those of us who like to test, it just creates a lot of garbage amongst the gems in there.

I see quite a few of these expired betas in there as well from before the first release of Publisher. Are they still added to user accounts? I am so lucky I can just grab them from the beta forum posts.

Serif should be able to script remove these pseudo purchases from their user account database - and probably shouldn't add them to it in first place.

yes you are hardware calibrated , directly in the monitor . that means everything is colormanaged by default and you can just choose srgb in os and progs (or choose nothing at all)

No I used a device that generated a monitor profile that Windows is configured to use. Like in your setup.

Only colour managed programs display correct colour managed colors and on my system all colours in Affinity look fine.

Windows desktop etc. etc. looks awful.

Don't I remember correctly that the first programmable Texas Instruments calculator.jpg.edc821bed0e3be1f373a242419c10502.jpg managed even the moon landing, like a charm? 😎🤓

Haha, no, reality is more complex than you guys want to believe. This is what made the moon landing possible - one factor of many - lets start with the genius

    https://www.wired.com/2015/10/margaret-hamilton-nasa-apollo/

Like a charm? Think again - it was a dramatic landing inside that lander - good thing the men aboard were trained for landing in a difficult to steer lander and former test pilot:

A few details about the guidance computer:

So, pretty please, with sugar on top, spare me.

I would like to have an icon for  the Place Function on the Affinity Photo toolbar like the one in Affinity Designer, or the ability to add this icon under tools customization, rather than just a shortcut key, if there is a way to add the Place icon to the toolbar that I've missed how would I do this? I don't see the option here under available icons.

    toolbar.jpg

I agree. I miss many functions as icons as well in the desktop versions. Especially functions I use *all the time*. They are easily assessible and you don't need to fumble with menus or remember shortcuts. Or customize shortcuts. I assigned alt + PageUp to export instead of the four key default to remember it. Mind you I have to remember similar shortcuts  for a lot of other programs. The world is bigger than Affinity.

I hope more will be added as optimal icons.  🙂

Totally with you on this. Precision on a graph about the size of two fingernails (iPad Pro 10.5) is very difficult, especially with longer strokes and multiple nodes. I do hope serif introduce another solution that gives direct control of the stroke with the power of zoom to aid precision (like the tool in adobe illustrator).

Every time I have to touch that ruddy graph in affinity I question my decision to cancel my CC subscription. Seems silly, I know.

edit: Don’t get me wrong, I love the affinity range and I forget all about AI when I’m done with the pressure graph. So thank you serif for everything else!

Using the pressure graph for drawings is like steering a car with a calculator. A width tool is so much more intuitive, fast, precise and satisfying to work with.

Ooh @Jowday that's a brilliant little tip. I tend to use Sip to sample swatches/images in order to create Apple Color List (.clr) files that I can then import into various macOS apps (incl. Affinity). This function makes it far easier to go into Affinity from a set of colours contained in a PNG (like Coolors produces). I still wish Affinity would export palettes in any format other than their own .afpalette (which no other app can use).

🙂 Agreed, I would like if Affinity could export swatches/palettes as well. In a business context these small files go back and forth between designers, printers, customer, partners whatever.

It is rather annoying to use websites, services and what to connect people and systems just to exchange color tables. Another reason for many to just stick with what works in the big picture; Adobe.

Speaking of palettes. Serif DrawPlus X8 had this little fellow built right into the program itself. That, too, couldn't export palettes.

Hello, the first thing which springs to the eye when opening up any of the Affinity programs, is that the UI isnt colormanaged.

Means -> Color Chooser, Swatches and Navigator show entirely different Colors than whats drawn in the viewport (use an idisplay/spyder calibrated wide gamut monitor to test this) . Thats kinda bad , in Photoshop they also colormanage the swatches and the color chooser ( i could live without the navigator but the other two are important).

I guess this is a core feature missing the devs notice(you wouldnt really notice unless you use a wide gamut monitor i guess).

Most new good Monitors are wide gamut monitors so its kinda important to add this feature as fast as possible

Hi, I have a wide gamut Eizo monitor that I calibrated myself with an Eizo calibrator.  I instantly spot software that is not colour managed (you know the horror) and never, ever use it.

I see no difference between colours in documents and colours in the color chooser and swatches though. I even made some measurements. Never had the issue myself either. So at least my UI is colour managed.

Could you please provide an example - upload it (rather than paste it into post). And measure the colors on screen as well. Sometimes smaller areas of vivid colours fooled me.

  10. Here and now you can (a method than can be use with whatever image, bitmap or vector):

    1. export the palette as SVG from Coolor
    2. open it in Affinity Designer
    3. in the studio panel "Swatches" select from the "burger menu icon" one of these:
      1. Create palette from Document -> As application palette
      2. Create palette from Document -> As document palette

    Or of course:

    1. export the palette as ASE palette
    2. open it Affinity Designer and create/open a document
    3. in the studio panel "Swatches" select from the "burger menu icon" one of these:
      1. Import -> As application palette
      2. Import -> As document palette

Drag & drop on to the "Links" panel (View > Studio > Links). James has a good tutorial somewhere where he presents the new features.

Still a multi-step-process, so no solution for your original question. Unless you keep the "Links" panel open, then it's just one drag.

I haven't had the time to try it in detail but I like the concept.

    Linked_Layers.mov

Ah, I made a few attempts. I am not sure how existing layers can be linked when no linked layers has been created yet. Why not a "Link layers" option if it is possible with drag and drop? Maybe I'll check out the tutorials out of lockdown boredom later.

I would much prefer something like this for just a quick and dirty copy-paste of a mask. I learned it simply by trying it years ago. It has to be that intuitive to work in a professional workflow - and for it to stick to memory. Linking has to mature a bit usability wise before it is ready for prime time.

Thanks for letting us know - we're aware of this issue and it is logged with development to be fixed. I've found that it does apply eventually but takes around 3 clicks unfortunately. I'll get it bumped with development and get your comments passed over.

It takes two double-clicks. Easier to measure in outline view mode.

Had both beta and release version opened. Issue fixed in build 943 - now it only takes one single click. Even in normal view mode. 🙂

Now Serif just need to rename them to 'Presets' 🙂

Using the linked layers function, you can link different Live Filters, Adjustment etc so that the mask on one Filter/Adjustment is shared with the others

    See simple file attached.

Paint (black/white) on the Add Noise Live Filter layer and the masked portions are replicated on the Black & White Adjustment Layer's mask.

How did you link the different adjustment layers together?

That kind of setting should not exist: as far as I know its functionality is not described anywhere, and who knows what kind of experimental features are pile under the option along the time. And at least it should not be ticked by default. It is somehow related to using masks in the PDF, which CorelDRAW does not like: there are multiple posts reporting this.

    @MEB 's exact words:

    Quote

Regarding Allow advanced features, Affinity will try to output all elements supported by the PDF format/spec as vectors like text with strokes applied, linear and radial gradients etc.

    The help file:

    • Allow advanced features—when selected, all design features supported by the PDF file format are exported as vectors. If this option is off, depending on the nature of these features, they are rasterized or converted to curves on export. These features include:
      • Artistic text which has been horizontally or vertically stretched.
      • Text which has an applied stroke.
      • Linear and radial gradients.
      • Non-solid transparencies.

If the Allow advanced features option is selected on export, the resulting PDF, when imported into other applications, may cause the above advanced features to be rasterised or rendered incorrectly.

The third party's app may also display an error message on PDF import.

Am I the only one here... nothing I export from Affinity Designer will open up inside Corel Draw or Corel Photopaint... even if I export it as a .psd, pdf, .eps file etc... Is this  just me?

    I experienced this as well.

A quick test exporting a simple shape with a linear gradient to PDF using these profiles:

    • Press (No, "file is corrupted")
    • Print (No, "file is corrupted")
    • Digital small or big size (OK)
    • Export (OK)
    • Flatten (OK)
    • PDF X-1a, X-3 (OK)
    • PDF X-4 (No, "file is corrupted")

Edit: It is the "Allow advanced features" found under MORE in the export dialog (PDF) that triggers the Corel error.

I don't know if it will cause problems, though, to disable it.

Yes, reminds me of the days of needing to support Internet Explorer 6 as a front-end web developer. My face regularly looked like your profile pic back then. And yes, a great shame that Affinity didn't get this one thing right—it was kind of important.

Then you know what kind of reaction I got when I - as a product owner - told a development team of 8 - 10 people that we could finally pull the plug on IE 6 support (we had to support it for too long because of compatibility issues and corporate system support and what not).

Microsoft did show us how many and bad decisions you can make in complete and voluntary isolation inside a corporate bunker before they listened and adapted partially to reality. Do you remember The Microsoft Network? Or do you loooove the Microsoft Store? Purchasing something in there is ... bizarre.
