  1. Not much changed though. But this is still making LAB not-so-fun to use in Photo: A visual mess - all curves show at the same time with various colours Colours are misleading AOpponent curve (just label it 'Channel A') is represented with green, kind of OK, it 'adjusts' magenta <-> green BOpponent curve (just label it 'Channel B') is represented with magenta, wrong, it 'adjusts' yellow <-> blue AOpponent... what? Channel A. Photo 1.9 - even when adjusting one single channel: Worst case example - overlapping curves: Adobe Photoshop since forever - much, much better:
  2. Usability feedback - New pattern layer from selection. Made selection on the only layer I had - an image layer. Selected 'New pattern layer from selection' Nothing happens. Nothing. An old timer here I understood it probably was related to the "Image, pixel, raster" complexity in Photo and I was right. But when the feature cannot create anything - and doesn't - it should trigger an error / info message about why.
  3. I activated one from layer -> new pattern layer - I could drag a shape around but then Photo crashed. 😞 Didn't get the chance to see options or anything. Just a frame.
  4. I configured another laptop to 110% scaling - same issue.
  5. Similar example from Photo build 911, not the same document. New made from scratch. Did you add some kind of earth quake simulator? 🙂
  6. Sorry guys @Mark Ingram @Sean P Getting closer - but even now the rendering of the preview is jagged and weird? Display scaling set to 110% now - no other scaling configured.
  7. This particular post had some wrong screenshots embedded etc. Deleted. Next post is better. 🙂
  8. You can select the layers you want to flatten into one layer and select Layer -> Merge visible, then you will get an additional raster layer while the original layers are preserved. If you do not wish to preserve the original layers, select these layers, group them (control + g), right click the group and select rasterize. Otherwise if you want to flatten everything in the entire document choose Document -> Flatten.
  9. Why not re-use the code for a destructive vector crop - Bake crop - whatever it should be called. I would never have guessed this work around - and its a clumsy work around.
  10. A status on this bug would be rather interesting. It is crazy if you can't trust save.
  11. The spec says 160 x 600 - DPI is irrelevant. For some reason finishing web/screen graphics in Designer is a pain. I really would expect that I could select output sharpening (screen or print) in the export persona or export dialog. But no. What you CAN do: Group all layers in the web banner and label the group Original Duplicate the group and label the duplicate Export Select the duplicate, right click it and select rasterize Go to the pixel persona Select the sharpening tool Select a modest opacity in the toolbar - 20% to 50% Select 'Unsharp mask' in 'Mode' Sharpen what needs sharpening - selectively painting with sharpening If you also have Photo you have more tools for sharpening and clarity - but the above should be enough. Standard vs sharpened example (exaggerated for the demonstration) using this simple workaround in Designer: vs
  12. This is what Affinity Photo should see with its LibRAW based RAW algorithms. Not much noise, some colour noise. Something is wrong in Photo's RAW persona.
  13. 🙄 No no no, it is not from the image itself - there is not such extreme noise in the raw data / raw image at all. If you open it on Photoshop that is much better at removing colour noise - there is not much noise to see at all. It is very well behaved for an ISO 1600 image. In camera noise reduction settings ... nah. If you are shooing a lot in low light you want better NR and possible plugins for it. Best program for RAW images with noise is DxO Photolab. But you can also achieve some fine results with noise reduction in Photo using layers and layer masks. But as I said, this image is not affected by bad noise at all. At all.
  14. It is a badly implemented feature. The "inspiration" for adjustments - like most of Photo - came from Adobe Photoshop - just not the user interface and usability. Much more intuitive to use in Photoshop:
  15. Ah, a steps to reproduce is always great. Now I see it. This is a bug plus an overlooked usability scenario where Photo will silently overwrite/reset adjustments already made. And in this case thus an obvious bug nonetheless. The same kind of operation when working with adjustment layers works as expected. A new layer is created. Creating several layers of the same type is perfectly normal in a professional - and I assume also amatuer - scenario. For example when you paint with light via curve adjustment layers with different curves and apply them to various areas of the image using layer masks. And what not. Photo has TONS of these usability issues. Tons.
  16. It is hard to tell what is happening - it certainly isn't the default behavior. Perhaps - if we are lucky - your installation has reached a bad state, some configuration is corrupted, whatever. That can be resolved. Try starting Photo holding CTRL - and select 'Reset adjustments' as well. See if that helps. I am not sure you should delete the other settings that are not selected by default - shouldn't affect layers A more desperate move - but interesting nonetheless - would be to repair the installation. Just run the setup program again if you are not sure how to access that feature in Windows and you will be prompted. Try that and report back 🙂
  17. I verified with my most complex drawing - can't share it unfortunately - but generating the preview takes a very long time, same goes for every update when I change JPG compression setting. I must add that I would rarely pixel peel such huge documents at various export settings in Designer - I use the feature for small to medium sized web images. But perhaps smaller documents with tons of layers and complexity takes time to render as well. My test doc is A2. Also have to add that I would use it to inspect and pixel peep high res photos to check for banding and JPG artifacts if I used Photo for my photography - but I don't. But it looks like Photo updates the preview much faster.
  18. I hope this will be included in a forthcoming story editor / story persona in Publisher. Used in many real life scenarios out there in the professional world.
  19. There is no way to switch between open document windows with the standard keyboard Windows shortcut control + tab. It is an ancient Windows shortcut - and I imagine OS X has a similar ancient shortcut. It should work out of the box. Thank you 🙂
