David Hassell got a reaction from Krustysimplex in Stripped IPTC and Metadata is a Deal Breaker
I am a serious amateur photographer who concentrates on travel and family photography.
I am using Affinity Photo on a trial basis and I am highly impressed with AP's outstanding editing capabilities, ease of use and superb learning videos and tutorials.
However, I have just discovered that almost all of my metadata is LOST after exporting files in JPG format! On studying this Forum, I note that any posters have expressed the same concern.
This is a deal breaker for me and it will be a great disappointment not to proceed with AP purchase, unless anyone can advise:-
    1. is there a workaround for this most basic requirement? and
    2. is AP planning to correct this problem in the very near future?
I am sure there must be hundreds of potential purchasers who are turning away from AP for the same reason.

    Hi Gabriel,
thank you for your reply. I am attaching two files to see a difference, when I am exporting image from RAW to JPEG inside Nikon Capture NX-D and when I do the same inside Affinity Photo (and doesn't matter if I do just export without retouching the image or I do retouching then exporting to JPEG). You can see displayed images in the Nikon View NX-i, file information on the right side and the difference between these two EXIF/IPTC information.
I did some digging into Exiftool used by Affinity and I found out on the Exiftool forum webpage, that if you want to preserve all the EXIF tags, you must use special commands in command line. Does the Affinity use such a commands?
    Thank you.

I've tried to learn a bit more about AP and how it handles metadata embedded in files.

It looks like the EXIF panel in AP shows only a subset of the metadata in the NEF file (even in the "All" setting). No headlines, keywords, titles etc. No legacy IPTC, maker notes or other relevant data.
To me It seems that AP ignores the associated XMP metadata record (in a standard XMP sidecar file) when I imports a NEF RAW file.

And when I later export the NEF to JPEG after editing in AP, only a subset of the metadata embedded in the NEF makes it into the JPEG. Keywords etc. are lost.

I use Photoshop and Lr for editing (just giving AP a try because I like Affinity Designer a lot) but proper metadata handling is a key feature for any photo editor / RAW developer.

I work with the media and much of our business depends on being able to transmit images with captions to the press. We primarily use photoshop "file info" or photo mechanic where we are able to edit metadata, add slugs, captions, locations, key words, copyright and usage instructions, etc. It seems to me that this feature would be a must for most professional photographers - especially photo journalists. Not a deal breaker for me necessarily as we can use other software to embed - but an inconvenience - especially when on deadline.

Do you have plans to add editable metadata anytime soon?
