  1. Yes, but it needs you to select the layer. Surely it would make more sense historically if the next layer was always drawn above the last layer you've drawn rather than put at the top of all the layers. It's problematic if you're working with a vast number of layers and don't have the previous layer selected as it draws at the top and then you have to manually re-order it to where you want it? Any way to automate this / set as a default? Thanks!
  2. Just found out why - my Use Fill button on the base menu wasn’t toggled - think that’s it sorted now! thanks!
  3. If it would even just put the new layer above the last one you drew it would be useful - unless that layer is specifically selected then it starts it right at the top of the layer tree, which, if you’ve hundreds of layers is really annoying... any help appreciated. thanks!
  4. Thanks Walt. Thing is it started doing it by default on the last illustration I was doing which was a breath of fresh air (ie every new layer I drew appeared under the last one I drew) so I was wondering had I toggled something or done something on the setup that would have done this? It’s back to the normal bottom up now... any ideas? There’s no preferences settings or anything is there? I work from highlights backwards so it’s something I really need... thanks, kirk
  5. Nope. When I start any new shape, even if I’ve got a previous colour specified, it just draws as an empty shape with no fill and no stroke until I specify something - any ideas? thanks!
  6. Hi there, is there any way on Affinity Designer for iPad to make the next vector shape you draw automatically fill with the same colour as the last shape you drew without having to select a new colour each time? Shapes I draw always appear with no fill until selected... Would save a heap of time if anyone knows how to do this...? cheers!
  7. Hi there - is there any way to have the layers default to being created top down in Affinity Designer for iPad instead of automatically bottom up? I’ve struggled with this for a while but when I’m creating artwork I want to draw a layer and then have then next one automatically appear under it when I start the next vector shape rather than over it or at the top of the whole layer tree when I start a new layer? Insertion targets only seem to do it once and then it defaults to new layers at the top again? I seemed to get it to work last week for a moment and now it’s back to the usual again ... can anyone help? Thanks!
  8. Hi Stokerg, thanks for the reply but not sure I understand - I'm not using a pixel layer when it happens. When I start to draw a new vector shape with the pen tool (which automatically creates a new layer) after finishing a previous one and if I don't have that or another layer pre-selected (in actuality a shape selected) it will automatically default my new vector shape / layer to the top of the layer tree, which can be a lot of scrolling from the layer I was previously working on. Is there no way to get my new vector shape / layer to be created above whatever layer I was last working on other than by having to select that layer?
  9. Hi - maybe I’m being daft, but why does Affinity Designer on iPad automatically put every new vector layer at the ‘top’ ie first of all the layers. If you have a heap of layers it’s very time consuming to then either drag the layer ‘downwards’ or copy / cut / paste to the location you want. It’s driving me crazy - surely it should put the new layer above the last one you were working on by default...? Only way I can see to do it is select the layer below the one you want to work on and then it will start there, but not always. Can anyone help (and apologies in advance if I have missed something blindingly obvious).
  10. Thanks DM1 - not sure I understand though. On the iPad I use the pen tool - even if a colour is previously set - when I start to draw a new shape I t reverts to no fill? Is there anyway to keep the colour setting when drawing a new shape with the pen tool?
  11. Hi - when I go to draw a new vector object with the pen tool, it automatically defaults to a ‘none’ fill, even if I’ve been drawing a previous shape and filled that with a colour. Is there any way it can fill with the previously used colour (or any colour) as a default rather than no colour at all, meaning you have to fill each drawn shape individually? It’s very annoying, but maybe I’m just using it wrong. Appreciate any advice on this...
  12. Brilliant! Bit strange there isn’t a gesture-based constraint option on the canvas itself but that works well. Thanks so much.
  13. Thanks again. Still seems weird the separation of constraints - if, for example I was retracing some type, I would need the curve aspect of the Pen tool, but I would also need absolutely straight lines for the uprights and horizontals, and wouldn’t want to be toggling between Pen and Polygon to achieve that. I’ve an Illustrator background so don’t know what Designer is like on the Desktop, but holding Shift down in Illustrator allows you to do this while drawing node to node. Some sort of gesture based constraint would be good in this instance you would think...
  14. Thanks for this. So there’s no way to constrain the line when in Pen mode (as if holding Shift on Desktop)? Seems a bit convoluted to have to toggle to Polygon just to draw a straight line?
  15. Just starting out with Affinity Designer on iPad. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious, but how do you constrain the vector pen tool to create a straight line - 90 degrees / 45 degrees / perfectly horizontal or vertical - when drawing node to node? Anyone help?
