  1. I agree, mac_heibu, that's one of my reasons as well. Spanish would indeed make much more sense, as toyotadesigner stated, since there are many more native speakers. I read in Spanish forums quite often, though my knowledge of that language is rather restricted unfortunately - but if you don't understand something, there's always the "Franker" plugin for Safari. Once set up correctly you'll have the translation of every paragraph on a webpage literally at your fingertips (ctrl+F).
  2. Though it mostly does a good job, the smoothing of pencil lines is a bit too much sometimes, e.g. when I try some calligraphic lettering using the Wacom tablet. The different line thickness resulting from pressure sensitivity will be taken out after completing the stroke - interestingly the longer the line the "flatter" it will end up. This can be reproduced by comparison of drawing one oval with pressure on the downstroke and drawing a long spiral with pressure on the downstrokes - the thicker line is retained in the single oval, but gets mostly lost in the spiral. It would help if this were adjustable so I wouldn't loose what I see while drawing. Trying to replicate Spencerian script (not to speak of Copperplate) is rather impossible (especially Spencerian script can be approximated with a 2B pencil). What I'd really wish for was a tool that replicates the behaviour of a real flexible nib where the tines open up on pressure, which is somewhat like drawing two lines at once while the space between them is filled with ink - no program I know of can do this in a realistic way, not even Painter (see here for an explanation what this is all about). This would also be a godsend for all the Manga artists I guess. This might even give a unique position feature for AD, but probably needs quite a lot of research and even new algorithms. Here's an "O" and a spiral where I used similar pressure on downstrokes - notice how the spiral doesn't reflect this any more after finishing the stroke.
  3. Which leads to the feature request of "backward compatibility". While such a feature is not really easily maintained, an older version of AD could at least display anything that it "understands", bringing up a warning requester telling us that certain elements or features will not be included (maybe with the buttons "Cancel" and "Open anyway").
  4. No, please don't. Then we'd need Spanish and French and Japanese and Russian etc. as well - and the developers would maybe miss important issues. How about opening your own German Affinity blog or something similar if you want to discuss the apps in German? Everybody should have at least basic knowledge of English by now, it's taught in school and you wont get far in any job without it anyways. It's such an easy language to learn (I find e.g. Spanish much more demanding regarding grammar and vocabulary).
  5. For me this works - just drag out of the rulers. But you'll have to have the move tool selected to do that (for whatever reason). But I have a different problem with them: they always stay on top, so if you try to grab an object to move you move the guide instead. I think they should be on the lowest layer since you can always move them outside of your drawing area.
  6. A feature that works awesome in Silhouette Studio (cutting plotter software, get it here for free: http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/software/silhouette-studio/) - take some drawing and make paths from it. It's just a few steps to get really good results: select a part of the image, then adjust high and/or low pass filters, threshold and scaling to your liking. I attached some pictures from that program to show the process involved. Notice the few anchors and nice curves that can be produced even with the rather low resolution jpg that I used. I use the Designer edition of Silhouette Studio which can import SVG, so I can switch to it for the features missing in AD - but it would be great to have it in AD directly, since Silhouette cannot export SVG. And while I'm at it: scanning directly in AD, so you can have a complete workflow inside AD after making a sketch with "real" media (something that Silhouette also can do).
  7. Ah, ok, now I got it. In the apps that have this, I used it very rarely, if ever ... and it would IMHO make more sense in AP than in AD.
  8. Though I agree that the printing options are not up to par with other apps, the paper size can be set (see screenshot - sorry, it's German, I was too lazy to switch OSX and AP to English first) - there's quite a lot of options hidden in Apple's print dialog, you can even save preferred setups as presets. I'm missing the usual paper setup dialog, though, where you can define those presets and select portrait or landscape (usually sitting next to the print command in the menu, shortcut CMD+SHIFT+P).
  9. I would also like if LR could just let me send a DNG to AP without having to convert it to a TIFF before. But I know why it has to be that way - LR doesn't change the DNG itself, instead it only remembers the changes you made. So there shouldn't be another app that interferes in this process and this makes it necessary to first include the necessary pixel calculations into another file. This is even necessary to work with PS - it first exports a PSD file. The advantage being that you'll never loose your original image. As to keeping the brightness "12": this value might have a different meaning in different apps (one might have brightness go from 1 to 100, another from 1 to 256 or from 1 to 15) - as some guitar amps have a max. volume of 12, but still aren't louder than amplifiers that "only" go to 10.
  10. In AD, try holding Space first, then add the Cmd key - this should work. If it doesn't, you might change the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight in System preferences to something else.
  11. +100 für Rotate workspace +80 for using the space outside the artboard
  12. As the name says: it's an "interpreter" - the raw picture must be interpreted in some way so you can see something. That's why raw pictures look different in e.g. Lightroom and Capture One, and also in AP.
  13. I think I don't really understand this request: why not simply hold down Space+Cmd and drag over the area that you want to have a closer look at?
  14. True, I also think it's confusing that placed pictures behave differently in this regard than other elements.
  15. This would indeed be a very useful addition - you could then use AD also for plans for furnishing houses, electronics etc. For circuits you may want to try Fritzing (www.fritzing.org) - it's free and it can export SVG that you may import into AD for further editing. In this picture I added an example breadboard layout and circuit from Fritzing into an AD document and exported as png:
  16. That's how Adobe does it - why should that be the best approach? The three have much code in common - e.g. the prepress and printing capabilities are a necessity for all of them, as are typography features. So what I'm thinking of is more of a publishing framework, where you can switch to the specialized part whenever needed. Remember the OpenDoc philosophy Apple introduced years ago? It resembles the personae approach we see in AD. So I really don't see the necessity to have three programs when the transitions between them are so fluent.
  17. Thanks, yes, that seems to work. I'd wish for an easier, more "intelligent" way, though. I remember struggling with it in Illustrator, too.
  18. You'll have to connect the two curves on both ends to make a closed form - there's an icon in the context menu above the drawing area to do this (select two endpoints with the node tool and click on that icon). It's a hassle and sometimes doesn't work for no good reason, so there's room for improvement there. It doesn't help to put the two endpoints at the same place (like I'd do it in Illustrator, then use the "join" command).
  19. I think the numeric boxes need a bit of work anyway - clicking just once into them should IMHO preselect the number (but not the unit), so that you can start typing a new value at once. As it is now, you have to doubleclick on the number. Some might disagree, though, since the current way is the standard OSX behavior. Scrubbing would be nice, but only with some modifier key, since otherwise it would take away the standard behavior of selecting text by dragging over it. Or an extra icon (up/down arrow) next to the number field that is used as an "anchor" for scrubbing - this wouldn't need a modifier and could use the other modifier keys as described by you.
  20. Not sure if this is what you mean: it's already working for the node tool (hold Cmd to switch to the node tool temporarily). For the move tool you can hit "v" once, a second hit of "v" gives you back the tool you had selected before - which is even better than to hold down a key all the time.
  21. I like the way it is - you can simply leave the box open, since most of them are non-modal, and work on different design elements (e.g. with the fx-box). If it gets in your way, simply close it with Esc or with the close button. What should it cancel in this case? The changes to the last element worked on? All changes done since you opened the box? It's easy enough to use undo or the protocol to go back. Using Enter additionally to Esc would make sense, but this will come eventually anyway with the definable keyboard shortcuts that are already on the roadmap.
  22. Unfortunately Affinity is already doing the same - instead of putting the Liquify and Development personae into AD, they made it AP, so you'll have a second app to pay for. I'd rather pay twice the price for AD and have it all in one package. What will be next? Maybe an Affinity Painter app - instead of giving us custom brushes and full Wacom support in AD with a "natural media" persona, they might put it in even one more extra package. I hope I'm not giving them ideas here ... But maybe the planned layout app will make my wish come true and include all personae under one roof - they could even make the different personae available as in-app purchases, so they'll be kind of "plug-ins".
  23. I recently replaced an iMac 27' (2011) with a 5k iMac - the display is gorgeous, and everything in AD runs butter smooth (I also opted for the better graphics card and the better processor). I'd say it's the perfect machine for work with graphics and photos (it's great to see the photos of my 20 MP camera on that display). I thought about buying a Mac Pro as well, but those have rather "old" graphic cards inside and an extra 5k display would cost another fortune. You wont regret buying the 5k iMac, it's a wonderful machine - also reading is easier on the eyes and don't we all read lots of forums, news etc. on the computer now? If you're doing professional work though, you should calibrate the iMac (e.g. with a Spyder Pro) - it's set way too cool to be super bright - which looks nice but you're eyes will adjust incorrectly. After calibrating everything looked wrong and yellowish, but after a few hours of working with it white is white again and greys don't look like beige any more. So printouts (or even a softproof) won't give you unwanted surprises ...
  24. In the English version of AD, in the dialog box that pops up when trying to close a document with changes, I could press Cmd+d to close without saving (a feature I love in e.g. BBEdit). Now that the new version opens in German, the shortcuts are no longer working. I'd be happy if the English shortcuts could still be used (though the German button texts start with different letters). To make this perfect, it would possible to show the shortcuts for each button on the button itself when holding down the Cmd key (as BBEdit does it). A workaround is to activate the tab key for all controls in System Preferences/Keyboard and use the space bar for the selected button - but many users don't know of this feature and don't have it activated. And it needs more keystrokes. So my improvement request would be to leave the shortcuts in, no matter which language the app is running. B.t.w.: thank you for using the "native" comma/point rules for numbers (i.e. comma for decimals in German). Highly appreciated! Too few developers care about Apple's (excellent) user guidelines nowadays. How I loath to have to type in e.g. dates in the month-day-year way (which doesn't make sense at all to me and many others). I nearly put the AD demo into the trash when the first thing I saw after hitting Cmd+N was "inches" ;-) - luckily it remembered my selection of mm as my unit of choice ever after.
