  1. Hi, I would like to make a suggestion for the 'New Image Brush from Selection' option in the 'Brushes' Panel I have created a few 'Tree Branch' brushes, but when I paint with them, although I can rotate them on the 'General' tab of the 'Brush Editing' box, what I would like to do is to be able to move the Object Centre of Rotation before I create the brush so that when it paints, it paints the image object(s) from this cente point out (ie the branch image object has its centre point at the branch end - at its widest point - so that when it paints, the branch image(s) fan out from this point and look more natural, rather than having its centre of rotation at the centre of the object. Or even better, to be able to adjust the centre of rotation of each image or image(s) at any time in the 'Brushes Editing' box. I hope this makes sense. I hope too that I have posted it in the correct forum - and apologise (again) if I haven't...
  2. Hi, Please can you direct me to the location on the Affinity Forum where I can post a request for a new feature in Affinity Photo/Designer. I have searched and searched for it (I know its on the Affinity Forum somewhere because I have found it once) but I have given up... In the meantime, while I am here I would like to suggest that Affinity make the location of this 'request new feature' section (when I locate it) totally separate from any other post or section so that it can be located more easily. I am sure others have had the same problem. Thanks. To Serif/Affinity. Great software. Thank you! I cannot tell you how good, how professional they are... I have been a Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/After Effects/Corel Painter/CorelDraw user for over 20 years. I stopped using Adobe software when they forced everyone to RENT their software, forcing the individuals and smaller companies to search for alternatives. Luckily, there is Affinity - our saviour. Many other software companies are trying to do force their own customer base to rent their software - Microsoft (with their Office 365), Corel is trying to get you to do it too, many of the 3D companies too. Its shameful how the individual and smaller companies are thought so little of by these big software giants. They use us to create their niche market, build their company and client base, then drop us like we are the poor, starving waifs of Victorian London. They only want to deal with the rich, the famous names, the elite... But Rome didn't last forever...
  3. Thanks, Walt. Very cryptic... 🙂 I hope this tool does get included in the next update. I have used the Gradient Mesh in CorelDraw for years, but the Freeform Gradient Tool creates even more beautiful gradients...
  4. Hi, Does anyone know if there are plans for a 'Freeform Gradient Tool' in Affinity Photo or Designer? Thanks...
  5. Hi, This is a two-part question really... 1. Does anyone know if you can make a brush stroke that is a straight line? 2. Also, is it possible to make a brush stroke follow a shape's outline (eg. a circle so that you paint along the circle's circumference) or along a path ? Thanks.
  6. Hi, I was going to post a question on how to create a brush stroke (or the settings) for a brush that follows and rotates with the direction of the stroke) in Affinity Photo... but I discovered it myself as I was experimenting, so I am posting the Brush settings and a short video to explain what I mean (if its not clear)... Sorry about the wobbly video - I was holding my phone while trying to see past it to draw the stroke in Affinity Photo. Rotating Brush Follows Direction of Stroke.mp4
  7. Hi, Can anyone tell me if Affinity Photo supports Photoshop Actions (.atn file format) ? Thanks...
  8. Oops! Sorry. I have another copy of Photo and Designer which I use. I really only purchased that copy for her. I don't use that copy myself. At the time I wasn't sure how to do it. I'll go through the channel you mentioned above for purchasing Designer for her - email affinity@serif.com and inquire about purchasing a redemption code for her.
  9. Hi, I saw this cool kinda colour wheel 'Pixel Stretch Effect' done by a guy called Joe Cavazos on Pinterest and I wondered if I could recreate it in Affinity Photo. His website is http://www.fubiz.net/en/2019/10/23/the-pixel-stretch-by-joe-cavazos-2/ and if you are interested check it out cos its really cool. So I nabbed the image of the female dancer on Pinterest page https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/64317100919832831/ lordbyron44.tumblr.com Lord Byron Ballerina Elena Olshin by Vihao Pham Photograpy Not sure if this effect has already been done as a tutorial for Affinity Photo, but I thought I knew away to create it, so here goes... So I selected the Selection Brush Tool and made the size 10px This area of the image... Like this... Press CTRL D to turn off the selection With the layer selected (as shown below) Click the Cycle Selection Box Click the Enable Transform Origin You'll see the 'Centre' of the image displayed With this layer selected: In the 'Brushes' panel Select New Brush from Selection - to create a brush of this section of the image (which has all the colours in the image) Right-click the brush Select Rename Brush. I called it Dancer Click OK Right-click brush again Click Edit Brush On 'General' tab In 'Spacing': Set to as low as it will go (mine is 1%) Click OK Create a new file Click once with the new 'Dancer' brush With the layer selected (on which you have made a brush dab of the section of the dancer: Click the Cycle Selection Box Click the Enable Transform Origin You'll see the 'Centre' of the image displayed Click and drag the 'Centre of the Image' icon to the tip of the fingers of the dancer You may need to zoom in at this point... With the layer selected: Click Layer Click Duplicate - to duplicate the layer Select the bottom right corner of the layer and position the cursor until you see the double 'Rotation' handle Rotate the duplicate very slightly to the right Click Layer again Click Duplicate - to duplicate the layer Then press CTRL J - to Repeat the last action, then keep pressing CTRL J (or keep your fingers on the keys) to duplicate the layer until it has created a circular blur of the layer. I would suggest you Save. I crashed a couple of times cos there are so many layers. Luckily, Affinity Photo opens up the unsaved file and I was able to continue creating the duplicates until I was done. But we're not finished yet. When you've made as many duplicates as you need, select all of them and Group the layers Duplicate this Group Hide all the other layers by clicking the Eye icon (so none of them are displayed, then Then remove the background of the original Dancer image. Copy the Dancer into the file that has the rotated colour blur Resize the Dancer image until you are happy with the positioning. Note: When I crashed and opened up the image again and resumed the duplicates, I moved the image too much when duplicating it so you can see a 'banding' on the second half of the rotated layers. You won't make this mistake, hopefully. Already you can see that its getting there... With the layer selected: Put a Layer Mask on it by clicking the Mask Layer icon Duplicate this layer. In the 'Brushes' palette: Select the Basic brush category Select Round Soft Brush 128 In Width: Increase brush size to approx 595px (or whatever you prefer) Then paint out the area of the circular blur, leaving the section you need to retain. The section of the Dancer image still has its uses. You can paint with it... Depending on the direction of your brush stroke, you can paint with it reversed too by painting a brush stroke to the left or to the right You can create fabric... Strange seamless textures/patterns and brush strokes that you can create new brushes with... Fringing... Changing the Brush settings determines what the brush stroke paints like. I'm fairly new to Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. I have come from a Corel Painter/Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator background, but I have been impressed by both Affinity programs. Just wanted to pass on this use of the Brush tool to create this effect (albeit rather rushed). I don't know if its of any use to anyone, but just wanted to pass it on to the Affinity Photo users. Please let me know what you think...
  10. Thank you so much, Walt. I'll do that. I actually purchased a copy of Affinity Photo for her a few months ago. Unfortunately, I did it under my email address. (I already own a copy of both myself). Is there a way I can transfer that copy with the serial code to her email address, so it will be in her name?
  11. Hi Meb, Thanks for replying. Sorry, I've not seen your reply until now. Can I also order Affinity Designer for Windows for a friend in this way too?
  12. Wow! Thank you so much, Alfred. I thought it was probably me not understanding the tool correctly. I really appreciate your swift reply. I am originally a Corel Painter and Photoshop user, but I am blown away by Affinity Photo. I am still getting to grips with Affinity Photo and Designer... Thanks again... Del
  13. Hi, I have been creating an image (just as an experiment, really), to recreate in Affinity Photo the effect of movement and colour of a figure in motion that I have seen on Pinterest, so I grabbed an image of a figure in motion so that I could see if I could recreate it - its not for commercial use, just to see if I could do it, really - and have been quite successful in recreating it. However, when I wanted to erase some of the colour/motion layer, I find that an image on a tool I have used previously has been somehow applied to the Eraser tool - and it keeps changing. Its like it has acqured an image that I have been using previously in the Eraser tool settings and I can't get rid of it or solve it. Resetting the tool doesn't seem to work I have included a screengrab of the effect and highlighted in red the problem with the Eraser tool... I wonder if anyone can help with this because currently I am unable to use the Eraser tool because of it. I am using Affinity Photo version 1.10.1.1142/ Thanks.
  14. Hi, Does anyone know if I can purchase Affinity Designer for iPad for someone else? My niece is interested in design and I would like to buy this for her - but I don't own a Mac or iPad. She only has an iPad. Is it possible for me to buy it - and for her to download it on her iPad? Thanks, Del
