About Me
I worked for almost 20 years as a designer in a major German investment bank in London where I used Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce documents for print and screen, creating PowerPoint screenshow template designs (PowerPoint/Photoshop), infographics (Illustrator/InDesign/CorelDraw and animating them in PowerPoint), interactive PDFs & PDF forms (InDesign/Acrobat Pro), animation (PowerPoint/InDesign/Flash (R.I.P., Flash, retired by Adobe)/After Effects), brochures, invites & email invites, posters, bespoke covers for information memorandum and pitch proposals (both client-branded and Company-branded), pull-up banners and other collateral (InDesign/Photoshop/ Illustrator), animated web and email banners (Flash/After Effects/Photoshop), redrawing maps and logos in Illustrator and CorelDraw.
I also have a keen interest in typography and have designed two typefaces in FontLab: 'Alien Edifice' and 'Egyptian Monolith'.
I have used Corel Painter for many years (I first bought it as Painter 5) in which I love creating seamless textures for use as organic looking fills and backgrounds. And now I am experimenting with the 'Pattern' tile in Affinity Photo...
I am retired now, but I still enjoy the creative process, designing greeting cards mainly - now using Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Corel Painter. I am fairly new to Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo - I did not want to 'rent' the software from Adobe. I cannot believe how good Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo are. Neither can I believe how affordable they are. Or how reliable they are. The brush engine itself is amazing. I have been exploring it, creating brushes in Affinity Photo that I need for my work - gold brushes, jewels, creating brushes that enable me to paint with fabrics like silks, velvets, satins and tulle, glitter brushes, rainbow brushes, butterfly brushes, hummingbird brushes, water bubbles, dust motes. cloud and mist brushes, vegetation brushes like trees and shrubs, flowers, ferns, paint splatters and grunge, fruit brushes, fur and fuzz brushes... so many more.
I love reggae music (I've loved it since 1969-70 when I was at school and still love the old rhythm tracks), ska, rock steady, Studio 1, but I also love listening to Dancehall, Ragga and Bashment, Augustus Pablo, Barrington Levy, Sugar Minott, Alkaline, I Octane, Koffee, Popcaan, Macka B, Aidonnia, Chronixx, Tommy Lee Sparta, Etana, Sizzla, Gappy Ranks, Voicemail, Macka Diamond, Ms Thing. I also like Coldplay, Elbow, Ocean Colour Scene, SnowPatrol, Zero 7, Dido, UK Garage, Harry Styles, Simon & Garfunkel, Sia, Frou Frou, Ketty Lester, kd lang, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground, Nico, the Smiths, Tom Waits, Tracy Chapman, Billie Holiday, Classical Music, Baroque Music, Opera...
