Ok. I tried doing the techniques 6 times. No luck. The endpoints will not fuse.
Ridiculous. Affinity, what is your thinking here?
Seems absurd. Not to mention a colossal waste of time and effort.

    Thanks D M one,

    Thanks DM1,
I was about to write a new post to say that exact thing. Apple files by default hides other cloud services. So I clicked on the three dots and saw that Dropbox was unchecked. Now that I have checked it, the whole save process is working just fine my affinity apps on the iPad.
    All good.

thomasbricker got a reaction from IanPavey in Updating relocated linked images In Publisher with Resource Manager. Cant it be more automatic?
When I move the location in the Finder of a folder of images that are linked to in a Publisher document, the Resource Manager immediately indicates a broken link. Thats fine.
I can relink it using the Resource Manager. BUT, it seems to require that I do that individually for every single image, ONE BY ONE. Not cool!
When I did the same thing in InDesign, if I relinked one relocated image, it would tell me that it had found other similarly linked files in the same folder and ask me if I wanted to relink them all also.
I would say yes, and it would do all of them in one shot. I cant find this option in Publisher. Does it simply not exist? and if so, WHY NOT!
Please tell me Im just not seeing that option in the UI.
    Thanks.

I'm thoroughly enjoying experimenting with the release build of Publisher.
(Its fascinating how you can switch back and forth between the apps.)
One thing I cant figure out is, in Publisher, if I have set type to wrap around a particular object, is there a way to allow other text (Like a large headline) to ignore that wrap setting?
Im sure it is probably possible but I dont see where to set that up.

I don’t really want Affinity to support it. It’s just how I used to do it. If there is a better way of doing something, I do it.
Thats why i have switched to Affinity. (Ive only had it since last week...)

What I mean by bitmap is in Photoshop you can save a grayscale image as a “bitmap” tiff, reducing the image to either black or white pixels. (With a 50% threshold or dithered affect)
It is only in that format that Illustrator “understands” a placed Photoshop file that it can “colorize” to any color you specify.
Graphic designers have been using this method for ages because printers like the simplicity of the file types being used for their stripping purposes.
Also, because the image is a bitmap tiff, Illustrator “ignores” the background color, making it essentially behave like a PNG or transparent Gif.

But that was then and this is now.
One of the beautiful things about Affinity Designer is that it understands pixel based and vector based information within the one app.
And you can add a Color Overlay effect to any layer, thus achieving what I was after.
What I wound up doing, was going to the photo file, and selecting the black pixels, copying them and pasting them to a separate layer, thus separating it fom the background. I then saved that file with no background as a PNG.  I then placed the PNG in Designer and applied Color Overlay effect to the layer.  This allows me to specify any color I want. So that works like a charm.
Now as we all know, when it comes to computer graphics, there are always about 5 ways to do any given thing.
What I’m wondering is,  in the “Affinity World” there is probably some super cool way of doing this that I am not aware of.
What is the most efficient way of achieving this end result?
That is why I asked question.

thomasbricker got a reaction from Allan Windmill in How do I collect my linked images in Affinity Publisher?
A while back, while working on a document, AP asked me if I wanted to make all my images "linked" and collect them into one folder.
I said yes, and it did it automatically.

Now I am trying to find that function/command and Im not seeing it.
My document has new linked images from all over my hard drive and I want them to be all consolidated to one folder.
I have already checked out the Document Resources panel. Doesn't seem to offer that function.
I could swear the AP did this for me on its own. ( I have the folder to prove it.) But I can not seem to replicated this behavior.
Was I dreaming? Or does this function exist?

    Please advise.
    Thanks.

thomasbricker got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Roundtrip Saving to DropBox Not Working
OK, I need to reply to my own post. As is usually the case with this application, it’s not a matter of it not working, it’s a matter of me not knowing how to work it. The round-trip save to dropbox does in fact work perfectly well. It’s just very finicky about how you instigate the file. If you don’t start out pulling it from dropbox in the first place it’s very hard to understand where it goes. But if the file does begin within Dropbox, it stays there. So it does work, you just can’t see how it’s making that decision. When the file is saved on an iPad, it does not give you a dialog box as to where to put it. It just put it back where it started from. You can’t really move it after the fact. Unless you go into your desktop environment and move the file within the finder there. Then you can open from cloud on the iPad And start working on it. It will then remain in dropbox if you have put it into dropbox in the desktop environment. It’s kind of weird, but when you get used to it it makes sense.

thomasbricker got a reaction from h_d in How do I create a radial gradient mask to create a glowing ball effect?
    Hello All,
Just to follow up, I did resolve the technique.
Two great ways to do it, either with a radial fill within a shape which ends with a transparency value of zero, or the same thing with a mask on a layer with a gradient fill.
    See attached screenshots.
    Thanks h_d for your suggestion.
    Problem solved.

Yes, even if you dont do print layouts, its worth having Publisher for the way it has all the Personas within the same app. That alone kind of revolutionizes the way we all go about designing anything.
And the fact that you can open a Publisher document straight into Designer or Photo (On your iPad if you want) and then back into Publisher after that, is so damn cool, I cant stand it!
    Wow! Game-changing!

Congratulations and thank you guys for all your hard work. I have been using ADesigner and APhoto since 2016 and have always been amazed by the ease of use and performance of both programs.
I've been using and testing the APublisher beta since you made it publicly available and bought it instantly after the release. Tracking the beta phase was like watching a child growing up.
It's a great piece of software. I never get tired of recommending your products to friends and colleagues because I think you're doing it right. Both from the quality perspective and from the perspective of the business model.
    Keep up the good work

The most pressing question in my mind as I get ready to adopt Publisher is, can I import/open InDesign files into Publisher.
On first attempts, I’m not seeing a way.
And IDML files don’t work either.
    Thoughts?
