  1. I am doing a simple rocket design using affinity Designer 1.9. The body of the rocket has curved lines (black) and also has tiny rectangles at equal distance from the curve (grey). While you can create rectangles and manually place them, it may not be accurate. Is there an easy way to align the bottom of the grey rectangles to the black curve next to it? This is kind of curved text but the curving object is not text but another object like a rectangle.

  2. I have a requirement from my client, who is in the publishing business to create dynamic images as follows. With Aff Photo, is it possible to meet this requirement?

Requirement - parameter driven image generation.

Parameters: Author name, category, Translator name, Article title, custom image

With the exception of the custom image the rest of the parametric data is text (though it will be in Tamil, which AP is very bad at supporting). The image itself is a JPG file name

Is it possible to write a AP macro to generate the composite image with standard placement of the text on the parametric image and create a new output image?

This will cut down tedious work and improve productivity.

  3. I use both Affinity Designer and Photo and I tried to create a greeting for the Tamil festival Pongal with Affinity Designer.

I am a writer in Tamil and use the truetype font called 'Latha' for most of my writing. I also have another truetype font called 'Vijaya'. When I tried to type the word 'Pongal' in Tamil in both these fonts, it has problems rendering it, both in Designer and Photo. I went through Designer's character options and tried to change quite a few of those parameters and still do not seem to solve the problem.

The sound 'Po' is a single letter in Tamil but appears like three English alphabets - While all other Windows tools render these three characters (extended ASCII) properly, Affinity interchanges the second and third character.

I have attached an image that shows the wrong Affinity versions. Let me know, if there is a workaround for this. The below is the wrong representation by Affinity.

The above is the right representation of the word Pongal.

  4. I am thinking of creating a sort of collage of images in an Affinity document. I need three columns with separation lines. I want to ensure that I can use a standard Affinity template and just place three images in the appropriate place and move them around so that they look good together. I want the image to be visible in one column only. I used rectangles and created mask layers under them. However, this does not seem to be fool proof and I run into issues with the center column invariably. Also, I lose the column border. I have attached the afphoto file. Can you suggest a better method to do this?

  5. I use Affinity for Windows on a laptop.

I am used to LR where you can load a batch of photos, adjust one photo and sync as many photos from the batch you loaded into LR. This is very simple to do, as you normally load a batch of photos for post processing.

I went through the 'batch' videos of Affinity and noticed that you need to follow one set of steps to record the macro - typically, you would load one photo and record the macro. Following this, you need to load the batch and run the macro.

Is there not a simple way of applying the post processing steps of one photo to the rest of the photos, you have already loaded?

  6. Wow, thanks for going through such detailed problem solving. That separates you from the likes of Adobe.

I will pull the afphoto file down and use your note to understand the steps more clearly.

Somehow, under many conditions, I am unable to take advantage of the warp/perspective tool. Is there general guidance on the sweet spots for these tools? New users like me get frustrated when we presume that the tool will fix a certain kind of problem.

Also, why does this happen? I used the standard Canon kit lens and why should it record the seen so crookedly in the first place? I tried several post processing lens correction options and they did not help.

  7. I took a photo recently of two skyscrapers that are close to each other. I took the photo at 28 mm on my Canon T7i.

The buildings do not appear straight and I tried to use both the single and dual plane perspective tool and cannot seem to solve the problem. I have attached the image.

The file is 10.9 Mb and uploads are failing. Can you provide me with another method by which I can provide you the file?

  8. This is not a tech  question, but didn't know where else to post.

I am working with the trial version and the Serif site had a 30% promotion (no expiration date was displayed). The price now has gone back to $70 CAD. It was priced at $47.99 till yesterday. I was planning to buy the product when my trial expires. Is there any way I can get the $47.99 price so that I can buy it today?
