PanicPug reacted to firstdefence in Dashed Lines - Alignment and scaling
This should be addressed to the Affinity Range.
Dashed lines should not scale by length when adjusting the width, only the width should increase, as it stands, if you increase the width of a dashed line from say .5mm to 1mm the dashes increase in length knocking any phase adjusts you have made "out of whack" effectively destroying the phase setting.
What should happen is the width of the dash should increase and the length of the dash should not, this means any phase adjustments you have applied will be retained.
This leads me on to Alignment, there should be an alignment option to create a symmetrical dash, the corners would have a symmetrical L shaped dash  and single lines would have a half dash at each end. See bottom image for an example.
    Affinity @ .5mm 12-6-0-0

Affinity @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 Dashes scale by length and go out of alignment.

    Adobe Illustrator @ .5mm 12-6-0-0

Adobe Illustrator @ 1mm 12-6-0-0 (No length scaling dash stays put)

Adobe Illustrator with Alignment applied, makes a neat dashed line.

    Hi PanicPug,

Thanks for letting us know - this is logged with development, however we're unable to give any form of timeline as to when stuff gets fixed. I've passed your comments on to development however.

PanicPug reacted to lepr in Disable Gradient Dithering
The current Affinity apps have no option to disable dithering when vector gradients are rasterised, while, conversely, they have no option to enable dithering of soft basic raster brushes or Layer Effects (fx).
Fortunately, the absence of dithering of fx provides a couple of ways to achieve undithered gradients:
the fx Gradient Overlay give an invisible fx, such as a Colour Overlay with zero opacity, to an object to prevent dithering of a vector gradient in the object or any children of the object. To prevent dithering of vector gradients throughout a document, simply put the entire object hierarchy in a Group or Layer (note the capital L) and give the Group/Layer a Colour Overlay fx with zero opacity. Note that when applying the Rasterise command to an object with fx, you must clear the "Preserve layer FX" checkbox in the Rasterise dialog to achieve the undithered result.

Oh, sorry. I believe it's all part of the same issue. I did mention it to the developers though

(It does not require moving the artboards, though. It happens with any artboard-based document opened in Photo.)

Problem with the default type when placing document.
Open Publisher File Place Image on empty page Default image is selected to TXT (never used this type of file) Must select from the drop down desired type file Is this normal behavior?  I know that in Photo or Designer the default is "All files"
Any ideas how to change this.
    Thank you

PanicPug got a reaction from Ray S. in Editing hidden layers (e.g. with brush, eraser)
I understand that hiding a layer does not lock it from being transformed, makes total sense to me, since it does happen from time to time that you would move a bunch of layers, or scale them etc. and do want the same transforms on (temporally) hidden layers.
What I really don't understand however is in which case drawing or erasing on a hidden layer would be desirable. I honestly cannot think of a situation where someone would want that (though that ofc doesn't mean nobody else could. So please let me know if I'm missing something here  ).
Therefore I still think an option to change that behavior might be a good idea? Or as I said, maybe at least a warning when trying to draw or erase on a hidden layer.

In Affinity Photo it is possible to manipulate hidden layers, for example drawing on them with the brush tool or erasing with the eraser tool, which should not be possible (at least without a warning).

The functionality to switch between artistic and frame text would be a great addition to Designer... Illustrator's implementation of doing this (double click a specific node on a text object, or right click > convert to...) is a perfect example on how it should be handled.

Here's a thread with a whole bunch of other people wanting this as well.

Indeed it does, probably because of the brilliance & foresight of the user who started that topic.
All kidding aside, that's the topic I was looking for to link to when I started my reply above, but it never came up in any of the forum searches I tried. I have just now added a few more tags to that topic that may help with that in the future ... maybe.

See this post by @Wosven for the location of the Windows directory containing the various "propcol" files. Assuming it is the same in the Windows version as in the Mac one, all your Application swatches palettes will be stored in a single file in that directory named "fills.propcol." A Document palette is storing in the document itself, not in this directory.
The various propcol files are stored in a proprietary binary format & cannot safely be edited or otherwise altered outside the application, if that is why you want to know.

Is there a way to export all brushes in one take, all assets in one take etc.? It seems I have to export every single category to seperate files.

I think a way to backup and restore all individual aspects including workspace etc. is very much needed, esp. because there is a lot of switching between beta and release versions right now.

    Good morning everybody,
I am finding another thing that seems to be missing from Designer which I use an awful lot in CorelDRAW and which is kind worrying to me unless maybe I'm missing something. In Corel I have a blend tool. I believe Illustrator has the same thing though I don't use Illustrator. It allows me to create two objects and blend them together. This is particularly useful for creating interesting drop shadows and so on. Is there really no way to do this in Designer? I'm attaching a screenshot to show you what I mean. Corel allows me to choose which aspects of each object interact with one another.
Hopefully there is some way of doing this or it will be added as it seems like a very important tool to me.
Thanks very much and let me know!
    Phil
