Thanks very much for your feedback everybody, at this point I haven't tried your suggestions, but hopefully will do soon,
In the meantime I thought it might be a good idea to show a better example of how I used feather in Illustrator....
I like how the top layer blends with the bottom.. (this example was done very quickly, without much detail...)

I have downloaded both photo and designer beta versions, opened both programs several times, done a restart, opened both several times again...
No Problems !!

1.edge feather
2. alternating fragments in curve brush  like in old Serif Draw
3. transform links in between certain objects ignoring other groups/parents relations
4. imported photo instantly becoming bitmap fill  

It works! Tried firing it up three times on my machine withoud hitting any issue. Will try once again after restart.

I updated from previous Beta version and cannot get program to open, gets to the first screen and crashes. Rolled back to previous version everything okay. Reinstall latest update (3rd time) and same problem.

Hi Lindsay Gibb,

Could you go to %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\ and zip up the '1.0 (Beta)' folder and attach it to the forum please. Once that has done can you rename the folder to '1.0 (Beta) Old' and then reboot the machine and try starting the beta again please?
