ianrb reacted to firstdefence in ADAMSKI Effect in Affinity Photo V2
One of the effects lacking in Affinity is the zoom blur, in Photoshop it's part of the radial blur. Another cool blur filter in Photoshop is the Path Blur and I think Josh is using that cool filter to great effect.

Thank you ianrb for your efforts and explanations. I also did some experiments with AP and for now, I am pretty satisfied (as amateur). THANKS!

ianrb reacted to thomaso in Colour space Lr5 - affinity photo V2
Regarding "recommend colour space": there is RGB only, LR doesn't support Grayscale, CMYK or LAB. – Sorry I don't know the answer but can rather 'sugguess' only:
• Does your comparison with "Adobe RGB1998" refer to the entire workflow (set & used in both apps)?
Also I wonder if a known issue in Affinity with the common default "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" profile might matter (while I am not sure if it affects profile/colour conversion only): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/190671-on-screen-differences-between-profile-conversion-soft-proofing/
––> https://www.color.org/srgbprofiles.xalter
• Could the setting in APhoto > Preferences > Colour > Rendering Intent / > Black Point Compensation influence this?
It seems there is/was no Rendering Intent option for LR: https://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/71029/in-lightroom-how-do-you-specify-perceptual-or-relative-when-exporting-image
• Does the visual deviation increase if you repeat the procedure with an affected file (LR > APh > LR > APh > LR)?

ianrb reacted to Balakov in Adobe .grd gradient to .afpalette converter
HSB gradient support is in. That should cover most freely available Photoshop gradients.
If anyone desperately wants support for CMYK, Grayscale or Lab colour gradients, and they have an example .grd file they can send me, just let me know. The code isn't hard, but I don't have any examples to test against.

@Balakov you are champion for the cause mate ---- cause being Affinity to make a far simpler grad tool as LR has had for many year ( hint hint 😁 )

ianrb got a reaction from Balakov in Adobe .grd gradient to .afpalette converter
@Balakov thank you, I will look forward your "fake" LOL ; in the mean time I will just wander back to Lr5 for my rather simple grad needs or I might fire up the other "ONE" 🤫 .

ianrb reacted to Balakov in Adobe .grd gradient to .afpalette converter
I added partial support for transparency a while ago, but the trouble is that Adobe palettes support more complex transparencies than Affinity can cope with. Transparency stops are completely separate from the colour stops which allows for complex transparency gradients on simple colour gradients or vice versa.
The converter supports transparency only when the transparency stops exactly match the colour stops, but looking at the screenshot you posted in the other forum, that's likely not going to help with that you need.
I have a plan for sometime in the future to "fake" more complex transparencies by adding dummy colour stops. I just haven't got around to it yet.

Thank you for sharing but I 🤣 when I was noticed "transparency not supported'' ---- the only preset grads I was looking for

ianrb reacted to v_kyr in Borders in macros -- different horizontal Vs vertical
ImageMagick ImageMagick - Image Edges, Border, adding space around the image ... ImageMagick examples - Cutting and Bordering Python is a very powerful interpreter based programming language, with a very rich module concept and which is also predestinated for scripting!

ianrb got a reaction from Old Bruce in Borders in macros -- different horizontal Vs vertical
I have to agree ; the macro system is rather messy .
Instead of make big/complicated macros, I find it easier to make a number of smaller macros and then make those smaller macros into a bigger one button macro . If changes are needed (seems often for me) I just need to edit the small part and then remake the big macro
Cheers all

ianrb reacted to v_kyr in Borders in macros -- different horizontal Vs vertical
Which shows the overall limitations (and useless idiosyncosity) of Affinity's macro implementation. There's no real way to auto determine and deal with dynamic sizes and orientations for documents/images here, also there is no file i/o and dynamic text handling support etc. - All in all it's pretty useless for all those tasks, which can be done with other systems macro facilities in an elegant manner.

ianrb reacted to Dan C in Borders in macros -- different horizontal Vs vertical
Hi @ianrb,
Thanks for providing these files!
I can confirm that Macro Transforms work based on a Scaled Percentage of the X & Y values, therefore when your macro is recorded in portrait your transform is applying a 97% scale transform to the X value, and a 98% scale transform to the Y value.
Applying this macro to a landscape image then applies these scaled percentages to 'swapped' values from the original recording, resulting in unexpected results.
Therefore I would recommend creating 2 different versions of this macro - one for Vertical images and one for Horizontal, to ensure the correct scaling percentage is being applied to the expected axis value.
I hope this helps

It would be easier to help you if you included the *.afphoto file & the macro, or at least tell us what step(s) are in the macro & how you created it.

ianrb reacted to walt.farrell in Clone brush doesn't work
The Clone Brush Toolis a brush, and like other brush tools it will remember the last settings you used, even across application restarts. And in general that means that when you start a new project you should pick the brush (from the Brushes panel) and the settings (from the Context Toolbar) that you want to use.
One sometimes confusing factor, though, depends on the settings you have established. In this case, particularly those in the Assistant Panel (View > Assistant Manager in V1, or in Preferences in V2). There is a setting there for Brush Tool Sharing. I think you might prefer it set to No Sharing:

This will be fixed in an upcoming release. Serif will be making a "normal" installer, so you only have to use the helper application until then.

Windows did deny access to WindowsApps folder until I took ownership of it but then I was able to browse and point to the exe and everything seems to be working despite Microsoft

I think have isolated the problem to the pen/table so it's likely worth a separate thread .
