Yes, that is the panel I was referring to. These are for manual adjustments regardless of lens profile. These values are the same wether I enable lens correction or not. I have no idea if lens correction were applied, or my lens detected correctly. I'm looking for something like this, or at a minimum some indication that the lens was recognised and adjusted:

Thank you Gabriel. -
Thank you all for the response. I guess I'll play around with a couple and see which one I like. I'll start with Photos, darktable, and RawTherapee. I get form the link you pointed me to that Serif don't have on it their roadmap. Fair enough (rather do a few things good than a lot of crap things). I would just hope they invest some thought in ensuring good integration with some of the main ones, or alternatively, provide enough info for others to ensure from their end they can work with AP.

Since I'm looking at replacing Photoshop I might as well look at the entire system/flow. What photo management apps (on macOS) work great with AP? From what I search it seems Photos and Lightroom standout. Neither of them ideal. RawTherapee and darktable look promising and cheap but no idea on cooperation with SP. darktable, especially promising since can already pertly import Lightroom .xmp files and use .xmp files itself. Hint there for Serif when they get around creating their own DMA. Capture One, too expensive. Adobe Bridge, If I chuck Adobe I want to chuck it lock, stock & barrel so would prefer not to use it. DxO Optics ?? I think the "would love to have" , with cooperation, in RAW is the adjustment passed on to editor (SP).

RAW load slow

Indeed I did and yes, confusing at first. Now, back to original topic. Slow file load. Any solution with that? -

[facepalm] thank you. I'll claim newbie as excuse for not thinking about that Really though once I opened a photo the first time after opening the application and close the photo, then there is no toolbar. -

Camera quoted in original post (Nikon D800). RAW engine the default AP (I'm using the trial as a newbie so most things are default) . See my reply to Gabriel on the effect of changing the settings. -
RAW load slow

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. At first I dismissed that because one could only adjust the settings after the file opened. I realise now it then becomes default for the next file. Should't this then be a preference setting? Feel a bit counter intuitive to have to suffer through a slow load first to get to the settings. Anyway, Using Apple RAW open the files in about 9-11s. I further played around with the settings with the serif processor and found by disabling lens correction I shave about 5 seconds of the open and disabling all the processing brings it down 9~12 seconds, similar to Apple. Still much longer that Adobe, but a great improvement. Though I cannot apply lens correction after the fact, right? -
I cannot find where the lens correction for supported lenses are applied (I'm using a Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G). I were expecting something where I can see/select the profile for the lens and make any overrides if needed similar to Adobe's "Enable Profile Corrections" options. I do have automatic lens correction enabled in Develop Assistant.

I'm currently evaluating the trial version of Affinity Photo and have a few questions I'll post during that process. First question is about opening RAW files (Nikon D800). It takes 20 seconds to load. Most of this time nothing is displayed, then in last final second the photo will appear gradually (in square blocks). In comparison the same photos on PhotoShop takes about 5 seconds. Noted my machine is well above the required. Is this normal, and if so, is something Serif is working on to improve?
