oh thank you, both of you
now I hope they will add the same alpha option on other tools like clone stamp and so on...
and I can see on the other thread (thank Lee for the link) that I'm not the only one missing that old good Cmd+Del of photoshop ^^

    Hello,
I'm a photoshop user and I'm currently testing Affinity Photo, and I really like it... but there's one feature I can't find, which is "lock transparent pixels" (layer panel, in photoshop)
In Affinity, it seems that the only lock provided is for preventing moving layers around...
    Is it hidden somewhere?
    Thank you

Select just the Adjustment Mask layer
    Open the Channels Studio
Right click on the appropriate Adjustment Alpha and select Create Spare Channel
Select your new Adjustment Mask layer
Right click on the Spare Channel created above and select Load to "appropriate" Adjustment Alpha

This Olivio Sarikas video popped up on my facebook feed today -- some really great ideas for subtle adjustments

I have also added to the facebook post:
Now that is a good one folks -- taking dodge and burn, one of the oldest editing tools used in the original darkrooms up another level .
Dodge and burn should be the first tool you master as even just lightening and darkening parts of you image can be so powerful. Just remember; little at a time . Slowly build up your image as a painter would build up their painting
    Thanks for sharing Olivio

Olivio touch on this; but to remind you. Affinity does have built in dodge and burn tools , however you may be better making your own >new layer>fill layer with 50% grey>set the blend mode to softlight>select a soft round paint brush>set colours to white and black>set brush opacity to less than 30% >paint with black to darken and white to lighten>adjust blush strength as require. Texture brushes are handy also.

As in the video; you can add a little subtle colour on the same layer; however using extra named layers makes it easier to undo your work totally or with a masking brush
This also a great way to a whisper of selective colour to a B/W photo

I'm off to play with some of Olivio's ideas and suggestions from the video --- there is always something new to explore with digital photography.

    Thanks Olivio

    Hi,
Here's my last photomontage, inspired by the video game World of Warcraft (Deepholm area, to be exact)
The process work, and the final image.
I normally do them with Photoshop, and since I tested Affinity I wanted to see if I could do the same with it.
And the answer is yes  Sometimes, more easily than with Photoshop, sometimes harder ^^

What I really appreciate with Affinity :
    - resizing without quality loss! just great!
    - the layer system (the way they embed) is quite practical
    - live filters, easy and simple (no need to convert the layer)
    What I miss (from Photoshop):
    - a check box on the layer panel, to lock alpha
    - the possibility to "apply" a mask (I just created another topic about this feature)
    - colours on the layer panel! when you end up with one hundred layers, it's cool to be able to give colours to some of them, to find them easily on the panel.
Anyway, it's a great software and I'll continue using it in the future.
