JoeISP got a reaction from maccesch in Convert embedded fonts to curves when opening a file.
I ran into a situation where we were delivered files (AI and PDF) from another design agency where the embedded fonts were not on our machines and were replaced with system fonts. I'm looking for the ability to have Designer give the option to convert to fonts to curves when opening a file where fonts are not on the system. At the moment, we need to open the file in another application and save as an EPS then bring into Designer.
    Thanks for your consideration.

JoeISP reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Designer for iPad - 1.8.6
We are pleased to announce an update for the iPad release of Affinity Designer, version 1.8.6
    Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Designer for iPad 1.8.6 (over the last release  Affinity Designer for iPad 1.8.4) are as follows:
    Fixes & Improvements:
Colour sliders dialog relocates when you make changes on iOS 14. Adding a font into the Apps will cause iOS 14 to crash. Support for iOS 14 Scribble. Localisation improvements.  Earlier changes in 1.8 since 1.7 (including the new 1.8 features & improvements) are listed in some detail in the 1.8.0 , 1.8.2, 1.8.3 update announcements

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the corner of preferences screen.
Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them.
If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t panic if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

JoeISP reacted to Leigh in [FIXED] iPad apps crashing when accessing Preferences > Fonts on iPadOS 14.
This issue has been fixed in the 1.8.6 update. Please read the following article on Affinity Spotlight on how to update your Affinity iPad apps:
    https://affinityspotlight.com/article/how-to-install-affinity-updates/

Unfortunately, we’re aware of an issue where our iPad apps will crash when accessing Preferences > Fonts on iPadOS 14.
We do not currently have a workaround within the app, however you can use 'iFonts' to install the fonts system-wide, for use in Affinity.
This is logged with our developers to be fixed

    Yes very frustrating
Yes - been requesting since first release?!?!?!
I have to say as there years slide by I find myself turning less and less positive towards Affinity, as I think my first set of posts when this forum was first made available, was the need for a fair few things including true vector brushes and a blob brush along with my No1 missing "feature" Vector distortion / perspective warping, I say "feature" as I wouldn't class any of these as features, I see them as bog standard vector tools for any software that classes itself as a professional vector application -  I have been trying to keep positive, especially when receiving any kind of moderator feedback and seeing that old list of goals for the future - I used to just try and be patient - thinking what are we gonna do if it takes two or three years for these basics to appear  ---- FIVE YEARS LATER ----- and now it pisses me off that I have to use the ten year old (and considered obsolete) Illustrator CS5 to plug gaps - I just wish Vector styler was as easy to use as Designer as it has all the basics (including vector brushes,  Vector distortion / perspective warping) along with lots of other "features" it looks like it's been in development for around two years and it's not even released yet

I'm really hoping Affinity updates to allow true 100% vector brushes to be more editable and relevant in future releases. What are currently labeled "vector brushes" are not 100% vector and cannot be expanded as vectors. They have their uses and I appreciate them - but in my line of work, I need to be able to export 100% vector - no raster in the final output.
Right now we can only modify the 100% vector brush to a simple taper on each end - As I have attached to this post, there are many other types of tapers and such I'd love to be able to do with a 100% vector brush.
Going a little further - I'm hoping for a blob-tool that can allow for any shape to be made and used -

    Hi mackleys,

Unfortunately this is a known issue that is with development to be fixed. The current work around is to use the Rope Stabilizer option with a short distance. This helps remove the hook at the start of the curve, but doesn't affect drawing too much if you don't like the stabilizer.

We can’t believe it’s been five years since we launched Affinity Designer, the first in our creative suite of apps. It’s been an incredible journey and we’re amazed that Affinity has now been adopted by over two million users worldwide.
Along the way we’ve launched the first professional creative applications for iPad, picked up loads of awards including an Apple Design Award and multiple App of the Year awards, and finally realised our initial vision for Affinity - to provide one seamless workflow between creative applications - with the announcement of StudioLink in Affinity Publisher just a few months ago.
All of our success is down to the support and feedback you’ve given us, so as a thank you, we’ve slashed the prices of our content packs in half.
This 50% off sale is only on for a limited time, so make sure you head over to our store now so you don’t miss out. Sale ends Friday 4th Oct!

While you're here we have also just released updates to all our applications, details are found in links from this post

I've just added a couple of new tools, with slightly different tiles (10 repeating randomly) .
The file size increased to 10MB because of an hi-res texture embedded in these two additions.

This texture is turned off by default, but if you want can set to it nozzle and see the effect (personally I prefer them "plain").

JoeISP reacted to Huvir in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
Recently I came across Photopea. Runs in browser: NO INSTALL needed (there is even Chrome app to run locally without Internet access), it is FREE and you have the WARP functionality with a bunch of STYLES to choose from (arc, bulge, flag, shell, ...). Those are forms with handles for fine tuning. Since the option is a little bit hidden, I give you a quick guide:
    1) All paths MUST be on one layer (take a closer look especially after importing SVG from AD - you should  merge layers if necessary)
    2) Select the layer with move tool (all paths are now inside bounding box)
    3) Click on the square handle in the MIDDLE of the bounding box
    4) Click the WARP button from the upper toolbar (second from top)
    5) Select STYLE from the same upper toolbar and shape your paths
    6) Save as SVG and import back into AD
Don't be afraid of the pixel-like strokes in Photopea - those are regular paths.
I have nothing in common with Photopea - just helping AD community with workarounds. On another hand AD staff should bring this basic vector tool asap since this workflow sucks.
    Hope it helps.

No, we're not intentionally limiting the number of fonts. We're investigating the issue now to see what's happening. Though I do recommend only having a small number of fonts installed at once, as we load fonts at startup, which can slow down the launch of the application if you have many thousands installed.

Update: I trimmed my system fonts down to around 2,400 (not done yet,) and voila, everything is showing in Publisher Beta 1.7 (which had the same symptoms as Designer and Photo 1.7). Adding fonts using FontBase manager and so far so good.
The take away from all this is: there is a bug where Affinity 1.7 apps can only see so many fonts.

Hi JoelSP, it seems like you have a very big collection of fonts installed and so loaded in memory. Most of the time it's not really necesary to install that many fonts. If you only want to use those fonts to design, you could use a font manager and toggle fonts on and off to load them 'on the fly' instead of having thousands of fonts installed. Having as little fonts installed as possible speeds up everything in your system a lot and software doesn't need to load/scan all those fonts.
So using a font manager which is able to toggle on and off fonts (load/unload on the fly without installing the font) instead of having thousands of fonts installed might solve your problem you're facing now too.
There are a lot of threads about it here on the forum about it. Like this one from this week:

So maybe uninstalling these amounts of fonts and using a font manager instead helps you to keep using 1.7 ?

Sorry this is my first time on any forum so I don't know how to reply to you directly.
According to NexusFont I now have 2785 fonts installed (1601 items in Windows Font folder). I'm not sure at what point fonts missing fonts started becoming available but I think I tried when I had culled to about 5000 fonts at which point they still weren't available. After that I just kept uninstalling until where I am now. I just installed another font and it showed up no problems

I think it might be something along these lines.
I was having the same problem. All the fonts on my system were available in Designer 1.6.5.123 but not in Designer or Publisher 1.7 betas noticeably the most recently installed fonts. I had a lot of fonts (>6000) so I decided to prune them back and now have about 2800 fonts. I tried Designer and Publisher 1.7 betas again and those fonts are now available. I hope this helps
