  1. Unfortunately Affinity has yet to resolve this issue in the almost 3 years that I've been complaining about it! Most stock vector services only offer EPS downloads... which cannot be opened up within Affinity Designer without errors. There are few work-arounds, but rarely if at all ever work. As a result I've been forced to maintain my Adobe subscription yet another year just so I can convert files for my clients accordingly.
  2. That's because there is no true solution. If you actually read the lot of text, you'd find several work-arounds, each with their own risks and issues, but no actual resolve. EPS is simply no longer a viable format for saving vector files across platforms. PDF is the most viable one by far... but, I've had to convert the EPS to a PDF and then bring it in to AD or AI to then edit properly. Basically it boils down to where the EPS originated, which I've come to realize is not consistent across applications whether PC or MAC.
  3. My deduction as well... and I've tried the PDF route on that particular file with horrible results. Believe me I understand that the EPS I am playing around with is absolute crap, but it sets my baseline for worst case, and solving this problem, at least for my sanity, will help me with conversions of my own created works... Which also have run into some conversion issues, as far as fonts are concerned. Suitcase doesn't play friendly with AD or AP - but that's a separate issue. Thank you for looking into this issue with/for me and if you happen to find a reliable EPS conversion tool, I'd appreciate the recommendation.
  4. The funny thing is that if I open the EPS file into Illustrator and save it out as an AI file instead and then open it into AD, it works 100% awesome! But, obviously that is not a viable solution. So I have been searching for an app that can convert EPS files to AI or other to fill the void until Serif can resolve the issue internally. I attached the original EPS I had downloaded from my subscription site and the AI file I saved out from illustrator so you can see for yourself. original EPS.ai original EPS.eps
  5. I have tried this route - but with little success. Granted I know I am working with a crappy stock vector EPS, but there has to be a work-around so dependency on AI is eliminated. I'm looking into EPS to PDF converters and trying them out. I am determined to find a working solution.
  6. This is exactly the problem I am explaining - thank you! The screen shots I took show what it looks like in wireframe. the copy and paste works great and you understand the crappy work-around that I figured out last night which was convert the EPS to a PDF and then it places or opens better - not without problems, but better. I really want to cancel my Adobe CC account, but detail issues like this make is so difficult to step away.
  7. This didn't explain or answer anything that I addressed in my question... I have a VECTOR EPS file that opens up all jagged and places like a graphic in AD, instead of how it should like it does in AI. None of the responses answer this or solve the problem any of us are having... or at least it's not very clear what the answer is. The majority of the answers ignore the underlying problem or ignore the question altogether... we are not newbie designers. I've been working with vector files in Adobe Illustrator for over 25 years!
  8. I have tried several EPS files and it's a hit or a miss, more often a miss. I have downloaded from a popular royalty free source and I get different results. It open perfectly within Adobe Illustrator and I can copy and paste with little change. If I try to open the EPS direct from within Affinity Designer, it is useless and become rasterized. I even tried placing it instead with no change in result. Is there a work around? Reason I ask this - is I am an almost 30 year veteran user of Adobe and finally cancelling my forced subscription and switching over to Affinity products instead. But that's a discussion for another day and another forum. I attached screen shots of the illustrator and the affinity designer detailed results... Should note that the "placed EPS" produced the same result as opening direct within Affinity Designer. The unlabeled screen shot is what the file looks like from with AI (the way it's supposed to be).
