  1. Indeed. I was basically speculating on the apparent delay in the 1.5 beta for OS X (although it may not be delayed at all). If the beta for both platforms are released at the same time and have the same versioning, then it suggests to me a conscious effort to align the feature set (which only makes sense). I work professionally on the Windows platform (using the Adobe CC design products), but my home machine is an iMac. Having seen many products over the years get released for the Windows platform, the sheer number of users who would potentially want to try the Windows beta will most likely have a lot to say regarding how they feel about the app. If I were in the marketing team, I would certainly be aware of the potential backlash for any differences if the users felt it was somehow not inline with the 'other' platform's version. Especially if in an environment where users want to test the cross-platform functionality. No real concerns here, as these are new to the market and have shown a great (in my opinion) use of the current modern OS architecture. The performance is pretty much unparalleled at the moment. I hope to see some improvements in the current tools and some additional tools, but no worries if it takes a little time. :P
  2. Feature parity between platforms is pretty much required for any good marketing strategy. Certainly wouldn't be surprising if they are timing it that way (whether originally intended or not). The reality is there are far more Windows users in the world currently and fielding questions about why one platform version is behind another wouldn't be a very good start from a marketing perspective. Better to offer both platforms an app that has the same features and abilities. IIRC - someone said the files would be cross-platform compatible in one of the threads. That would certainly be of interest to anyone trying to actually test the programs in real world scenarios. ;)
  3. I would like to add both some pros and cons to the current feel of the development direction. Pros: Great responsive apps (both Designer and Photo) running on either OS X Yosemite or OS X El Capitan. Great interactive tools (e.g. gradient, transparency, blend mode live view). Very fun to work in the apps due to said responsiveness in the OS. Great for home projects. Cons: Starting to feel a little like the Pixelmator development (but far from becoming a product that is a disappointment - at least to me). Since I use Adobe products professionally at work (on a Windows based infrastructure) and have been for over 10 years, I can't say I feel comfortable with Affinity apps when I think of completing a project from start to finish at this point in time. Perhaps once the tool sets are complete, I may be confident. The expand stroke issue as well as the lack of path offset are basic prerequisites for my work. The lack of a mesh tool (which has been on the roadmap since I started using Designer and has yet to be seen or mentioned outside of the roadmap) also has me wondering when that will ever show up. These are a couple of basic reasons I can't remove other design apps from my home machine (which I would like to do since I prefer simple and efficient). I have the seat license from work for Adobe CC, so I do keep that installed and continue to fall back on it for any serious work at home, even though the newest CC desktop client feels very intrusive on my iMac as far as responsiveness goes. In fact; Photoshop CC 2015, Illustrator CC 2015 and Lightroom CC all feel like they are running in a browser instead of locally off the hard drive. I really am looking forward to Affinity improvements (read additional tools, options and fixes like the expand stroke's - IMHO - unreasonable amount of nodes created for a program that is meant to make work easier). I would very much like to see one of these MAS companies move past the 'app of the year' stage and into the 'just continues to amaze' part!! :P Note - please don't take this as anything other than an honest perspective from one user who hopes for the day when one set of tools that perform efficiently without bloat will do just fine. I still believe Serif's Affinity products can make that come true. The main reason I am even posting this comment is that there was an indication that a stable MAS version would be presented first and then beta's would resume. I now see that has changed. Best regards, CorkyO
  4. To whom it may concern, sorry if this has been posted before, but I thought I would share a possible bug. I have seen this on the same machine running OS X 10.10.5 and 10.11.2 with Affinity Photo 1.4 (current MAS version) and with Affinity Designer 1.4 (current MAS version included here for efficiency since the bug is the same). When I launch Affinity Photo using the default settings (both on initial launch and any subsequent launches), I found that the iCloud file open dialog (for lack of a better term) is open, but hidden behind the AP and AD interface. I have attached three files to illustrate the issue taken on OS X 10.10.5: 1 = the AP interface launched a second time after initial launch (having disabled the welcome screen via checkbox in welcome screen). 2 = iCloud file open dialog being viewed after minimizing AP to dock (note that while the sidebar shows AP highlighted, the location address dropdown indicates AD folder on iCloud) 3 = iCloud file open dialog being viewed after minimizing AD to dock (note that while the sidebar and the location address dropdown indicates AD folder on iCloud correctly, the icon is for AP - I think this last has been an issue mentioned in the forum before) I should also mention that the behavior is identical on OS X 10.11.2, with the exception that the AP and AD interface window buttons in upper left corner indicate that something else has focus since those are white and not the 'red, yellow, green' coloring. I will try to upload a screenshot of that later today or tomorrow once I have reinstalled OS X 10.11.2. One other note that I couldn't capture with screenshot, is that there is a mostly translucent rectangle the size and location of the iCloud file open dialog that appears just above the splash-screen a split second before the AP and / or AD interface loads. Not sure if this is a bug or maybe a setting file in my iCloud folders, but thought reporting it would be the correct thing to do. My machine specs are: iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) Processor 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i5 Memory 32 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB I have the latest Wacom driver installed for the Intuos 3 (6" x 11") tablet. All other software is updated and all vanilla installs. No customization software for UI, fonts or input devices. Thanks for your consideration. CorkyO Adding the following after re-install of OS X 10.11.2 from cloned backup of OS, but fresh downloads of AP and AD from MAS: Additional shots added: 1 - Shot of initial launch of AP showing welcome screen and iCloud file open dialog behind it, but in front of AP interface. 2 - Shot of second launch of AP (after disabling welcome screen and quitting AP). Notice the three white buttons in upper left corner of AP interface indicating something else has focus (I am guessing it is iCloud file open dialog). 3 - Shot of iCloud file open dialog seen after minimizing AP to dock. That's if for my report. Hope this helps! BTW - would love to be able to type in AD without bounding box as one can do in AI. Very helpful when trying to determine how the type looks in the design while typing. Just a thought... Best regards, CorkyO
  5. Most excellent, team!!! The issue is indeed fixed on my end with the just released RC2. Attention to detail = good! The new app icons (both Designer and Photo) are kinda cool. I like that they have a character of their own. Thanks a million. These programs really are fun to use. Will post anything else I come across as I move more toward using these programs full-time at home. :P
  6. Just wanted to say +1 for a keyboard shortcut for filling a selection (e.g., Option + Delete for primary (foreground in PS) and Command + Delete for secondary (background in PS)). Use those all the time in PS and am really missing that feature in Photo at the moment! :(
  7. One last bump in hopes this gets addressed in the MAS submit version. Still not fixed in the current RC (1.2.1.26110 RC1). It may be an intended feature, but the overlap of the visual stroke of the stroke size text doesn't seem right to me? Either way, I really do love both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. I believe that Steve Jobs said something to the effect of: "technology should get easier as it gets more advanced". The Affinity products definitely make me feel like my $2000+ USD 27" iMac is a beast instead of some bloated, resource hungry software that makes it seem like an old, used machine. Really, really looking forward to the way these run on El Capitan if written to take advantage of metal. FWIW, I use Adobe CC 2015 at work (since we run a Windows based environment) and have run the new versions of AI, PS and LR on my Mac at home since I have a seat license allowing 2 computers. Not a great experience even though there is no question the tools are all there for just about any project. Looking forward to some of those tools being added to Designer and Photo over time. Keep up the great work. Also, just waiting for the MAS version of Photo to become available and I will be purchasing that day!!
  8. Bumping this one since I don't see if fixed yet in the current beta 1.2.1.25787 B)
  9. +1 for the gradient that follows stroke (introduced to Illustrator in CS6). Keep up the great work Affinity team! :P
  10. Just adding a +1 for the contour tool. Years ago I used it extensively in CorelDRAW and use path offset in Illustrator. The contour tool was really great as you could apply contour > break apart > apply a fill to the contour to create really neat text and object outlines or inner reflections. :)
  11. MEB, Glad to help. Love the new program(s) so far. Especially the speed of loading and working in program(s). I miss a couple of features I use constantly in Illustrator like the new apply gradient to stroke (perpendicular to stroke) and wishing for either path offset or a contour tool (similar to what I used to use in CorelDRAW 12 years ago when I was on Windows at home). I believe there are feature request threads about those, so I will add a +1 to those posts. FWIW, outside of the easy use of the program(s) so far, I also love the ease of install and update via MAS (or simply copying the .app file to an external for backup). Very nice compared to the behemoth install procedure for Adobe apps (not really knocking the apps as Illustrator and Photoshop are still great if overly bloated). Looking forward to further developments for Designer, Photo and Publisher. ;) Best regards, CorkyO
  12. Hello, I am running the current AD beta RC3 (1.1.2.2384) and am seeing a bit of overlap in the stroke size properties (or at least that is my best guess at what that is called) at top left area of workspace. Simple steps I performed: Use pen tool to create a path Click 'Brushes' tab to show brushes pallet Select 'Textured Pen 3' to apply to path Issue shows right away. I am running AD with defaults across the board on fresh install. 27" iMac (late 2013), 3.4 Ghz Core i5, 32 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 775M (2 GB VRAM) Added: OS X 10.10.3 Public Beta I have attached a screenshot JPEG to help show the issue (red arrow points to problem). Not sure if it is something on my system or the program itself, but wanted to report just in case. CorkyO
