  1. Hi, thanks for another beta update!! Coming fast and furious.

    Two questions:

1). I know it says not for production use... I've created a print design in MAS release. Would it be harmful to open it in 1.5 and Export the PDF for the printer? Or would there even be any benefit, ie better PDF creation?

2). When I hit the Close menu or the "hard-to-see" close box on an AD document, if it's not been saved it asks to be Saved, I do so, and expect it then to Close. Except it doesn;t, I have to select Close again. Is this the intended behavior?

    Thanks - Timber

  2. Hi, not sure if by design or why, but I've noticed that if I place a graphic using the Place Image Tool and it's an Affinity Photo file, then I cannot apply a border to it. But if it's say a JPG file, I can add a black or white or any color border, change the width and the corner points. Not sure the reasoning of not being able to do the same with an .afphoto image?

Also when double-clicking or hitting the Edit button on an Affinity Photo placed image in Affinity Designer, it allows one to edit - in Affinity Designer. Yes, I know there's a pixel persona, but it seems it'd be nice if there was a preference to launch and edit in Affinity Photo and then return/update image.

While I'm at it, I'd love to see a preference item to lighten the close window check boxes. I still have to hunt and peck to find the close file box when I have multiple Affinity Photo documents tabs open or Affinity Designer documents open.

It reminds me of the small font, gray text on a gray background that Apple uses for serial numbers. Almost impossible to read, not at all user friendly.

    Just some observations - Timber

  3. Hi, for a real estate shot, we want to darken the parking lot pavement as it's needs and is getting a reseal top coat, but not before we need to use a photo. What is the best practice method to darken the pavement so it looks freshly sealed, but doesn't obscure the texture of the gravel one can see? i.e.. make it look artificial? Blend modes, brushes, etc? I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I'm not certain, so best to ask.

  4. Hi, I've managed to figure out most of the new features - Text Styles, and even Symbols to a large degree, somehow using Constraints seems to elude me? Nothing in Help yet! No tool tips! Just nudge me in the right direction would be helpful. Actually a tutorial of covering all the new items, even though subject to change, would be immensely useful.

    Thanks – Timber

  5. We've seen that Contraints & Symbols are coming to AD and there's the HDR posting about AP, but either the video is defective or I cannot figure out what the presenter is doing to get the HDR in this posting.

What else... is coming to Affinity Photo in version 1.5? Any tidbits or words to entice the eager and loyal following?

Looking forward to some new toys/tools to play/work with!

  6. Hi all, have a winter photo that has numerous tree branches against a rather drab sky. I wanted to put a nicer blue sky with some interesting clouds in place of it. Am I correct in thinking that with the detailed and intricate masking needed to keep the branch details that I'm best of doing this using blend ranges, as described in

    ?

Thanks much in advance. Cheers – Timber

  7. In reviewing the tutorial videos I've a few questions on exposure merging.

When, and why, to choose between Manual Exposure Merging and Stacking Exposure Merging?

What difference will HDR offer in a future version of Affinity Photo over Exposure Merging?

I see in the Stacking Exposure Merging the sample uses TIFF files. Can this be done with RAW files and or JPG's? or Affinity Photo files?

Is there a reason the start files were TIFFS and not JPGs?

So if one needs a TIFF or other file format, does one fully develop RAW files if that's what one is shooting, before merging the exported TIFF file?

What is the workflow difference if one starts with RAW?

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment on these processes.

    Cheers - Timber

  8. Does anyone have any tutoriasl or samples of illustrations earth cross sections showing ground water contamination. What I'm trying to master is representing a section of land - that shows items on the land surface, say houses, yards, streams, factories, petrol stations, trees, etc. and the underlying geological structures that would include soils, aquifers, gravel, bedrock etc. to illustrate how leakage and spills from some activities can create pollution plumes that can travel and contaminate drinking water supplies in the subsurface aquifers. Getting the hang of getting the perspective, angles, representing the geological materials, etc. to make a cohesive impact-full illustration is eluding me. So a tutorial, or some AD files that I can take apart and examine would be most helpful. Thanks in advance - Timber
