  1. The Affinity Forums are simply top notch! Dave Harris nailed it when he suggested the leading was somehow set to zero. Sure enough, when checking the leading override it was indeed set to zero. Once corrected all my Frame Text boxes now work correctly in this AD document. I have no idea how the leading would have gotten set to zero, but this certainly fixed this issue. So Dave Harris 'leading to zero' is now my hero! Thank you!

  2. Hi, in testing AD 1.5 Beta, I took a document created in 1.4.2 and upgraded it. When I try to create a new Frame Text item, all the text appears on one line and on top of other text, it never wraps or fills the bounding box. So, I'm thinking this is likely a conversion issue. So I try to recreate it in AD 1.5, no error. I try updating other 1.4.2 AD docs and no issues there. So I go back into AD 1.4.2 and with this, and only this document, any new frame text I put in the document, the text all appears on one line and on top of itself. So, I'm thinking, some how, could my document have gotten corrupted?

  3. Thanks, it looks good, but I suspect the "replacement shingles" are not scaled correctly, they look large to my eye. So what I want to is to scale a shingle pattern to a proper size and have it look the way it would if real shingles were in place. I suspect it requires tile a pattern/photo and that closer shingle might look bigger than shingles further away, which I suspect would appear smaller in size. Thanks!

  4. Hi all, I've had issues with file sizes in trying to export as PDF x4 format, this seems to have gotten better - but, see the attached image. It's a PDF x4 export on the left, and a PDF x1 export on the right. Look at the blur on the house in general and especially around it's edges, and also how a chunk of tree is missing from the PDF x4 image. No way is this usable. Placed image (house) is a Affinity Photo document, and yes the clouds/sky are masked in. Still I'd expect PDF x4 to produce what I see on the screen and not wonk up the image so badly.

  5. Hi All, I've a photo of a building. I want to get an photo image of some high-end architectural shingles and show them on the building to simulate what a roof replacement might look like with these dimensional shingles. Not sure where (which program) or how to do this best.

I see a need to fill a pattern or shape with these as they'll need to be a repeating design. They'll need to scale so they look normal size and I was playing around with the perspective tool in Photo and can achieve some of what I want, but not all.

If anyone has pondered this and discovered a work-flow that works, please respond with the steps necessary to achieve this effect.

    Thanks – Timber

  6. Over in AP Beta, someone posted a insightful observation to part of the PDF export issues:

vonBusing, great observation! It does appear that Both AD and AP betas exhibit this bug (Only the lower edge of the buttons in the export dialogue - from the file menu is actually responsive to mouse clicks) and it's not only on the Export menu but I've noticed it elsewhere in the programs now that you've pointed this out! i.e.. the More button in Export and even the recovery dialog if one is lucky enough to kick it up.

  8. Hi Chris_K, downloaded and tried AD 1.5 Beta 10.

I can not export any type of PDF via File > Export. The Export button doesn't work at all.

I can however export in the Export Persona.

PDF for Print are around 50MG, PDF-x1 are 6.2MB and PDF-4 are 27MB.

Using AD 1.4.2 the File > Export, the Export button works. All exported PDFs are around 5MBs except the PDF-4 which is around 26MB.

I'll try and upload the base Affinity file later for you to review. Appreciate the efforts to fix this!

  9. One more update... finally when I went back to AD 1.4 and tried exporting as a PDF x1a, x3 or x4 - it retained the embossing as seen on screen.

However in AD 1.5 Beta 9, the PDF X versions output the embossed items fine, but produce a 29MB file vs the 5MB file AD 1.4.2 products and I don't see any visual differences.

I'll have to check with my printer if they accept the PDF X series files, as I usually send them PDF for print from AD.

Anyone with any insight in the whys and ways this is happening and why the AD 1.5 Beta PDFs are so massive, I'd love to hear back.

  10. I've done some additional testing. Using Export from File menu > Export, AD 1.4.2 produces a pdf of around 5 MB. Using the same file, and same workflow, Print > Export, the Export hangs and never finishes. If I go to Export Persona and Export as PDF there, the same file produces a PDF of around 50 MB. Massive size difference!

Also if I delete or hide the flourish, the Text renders wrong embossing than seen of screen and I'd get exporting to JPG or PNG.

  11. Attached are two slices of a PDF document from Affinity Designer 1.5 Beta 9 and two from AD 1.4.2

Not there's a flourish embossed and a text box over the flourish that's also embossed separately.

When view on screen in AD and when outputted as a PNG or JPG (I've tried so far), the embossing is for each item, flourish and text, separately, But when exported as a PDF, the layers form a combined embossed image which is not what is seen on screen.

I've also notice if I export the full document for print PDF, the PDF from AD 1.5. Beta is many times larger than with AD 1.4.2 PDF's and I mean much larger file sizes.

Any suggested fixes? Or is it just not to stack embossed items, using the embossed style.

  12. Well this is odd. I've tried opening JPG, AP, PNG files.

    Sizes 94K to 2.7mb.

The only file export types that are working are to export to HDR, JPG or TIFF. All others the Export button is unclickable.

Here's another interesting thing... most of the time if Export is going to work, the cursor is a pointer, if it's not going to work, the cursor shows as a hand.

The Affinity Photo MAS release works just fine. – Timber
