A lot could be happening How many images are you feeding into the panorama process, how many megabytes combined file size is that? What is your computers RAM size? When you convert the Sony RAW files to JPEG first and use those JPEG files for panorama stitch does it work or not? And oh yes, How much free space on your hard disk partitions (C: and other partitions if applicable)

About applying a gaussian blur to a PART of an image. Do not use a layer effect but use a Life Filter added to the background layer. Adjust the gaussian blur as much as you like (can be changed afterwards). Select the Gausian Blur layer and invert it with Ctrl-I. By inverting the layer mask the mask becomes black effectivily hiding the blur effect. Select the Paintbrush tool, select white color in the colors panel and (optionally) change brush attributes such as size, hardness. Paint with white on the the Gausian Blur layer to reveal the blur effect. BTW I'm googling for a way to record a screen video but not yet found a good one.

And oh yes, it's most unfortunate that Affinity Photo does not have a Visual Basic (alike) of scripting language. The product would become much more powerfull for automated workflow tasks IMHO.

Sounds like you need to have a look at the Macro option in A.F. Macro's can be recorded and saved. Once a macro has been saved it can be selected in a New Batch Job. To show the available macro's (by installation) or made by you, you have to enable the Libary panel (Menu, View, Studio, Library) and you might as well enable the Macro panel at the same time (Menu, View, Studio, Macro).
