I get that people may be concerned about the news, but many of the comments here are completely ludicrous and hyperbolic. Some of them read like a spoof.

Like many I was shocked at yesterday’s announcement. These pledges are reassuring and dare I say it, they give me a tiny bit of optimism for what might be possible with greater funding and different skillsets.
More than anything, I hope the Affinity suite stays lean and fast. I’m all for carefully implemented new features, but I hope we don’t get Adobe style bloat.
Congratulations on the merger. I will reserve judgement for now, but there’s a huge opportunity for ‘Canva’ to prove us all wrong and to empower a community that Adobe lost many years ago.

From the day I first discovered Affinity, I have been overwhelmed by the old-fashioned courtesy, dedication, and professionalism of the entire organization. Even when tempted by some occasional unpleasantness from the outside, honor and decency have always prevailed. It was a shock to read of this acquisition/merger today, but I for one, am going to trust Ash and his wonderful team.  They have not failed us yet, and I don’t think they will going forward.  Affinity is their creation — they surely don’t want to spoil it!   Hopefully Affinity will blossom while keeping its tradition for excellence.  Steve Jobs started Apple.  Apple has added laptops, iPads, iPhones, Apple TV, etc. without spoiling its brand either.
I wish everyone at Serif/Affinity the very best going forward and thank you for what I am sure will be many more years of happiness using the Affinity Suite.

Yes I do! Realise there seems to be a distinct lack of faith flying around here, but we'll be revealing more about our plans in the coming days and yes I'm sure you will all be pleased with what we have to say.

Don't worry guys, AI will decimate the industry within five years anyway. There won't even be any point to software by then.

This. It all may be a moot point, in the end. Still, 800mil + offer when facing down the barrel of an AI supernova facing the industry, they would be fools to not merge. This might be the best for all of us, in the end. We just don't know it.

There are genuinely no plans for us to remove the availability of our apps to purchase as a perpetual licence. I will say it is possible in the future there may be an optional way to have them via a Canva subscription plan (which could also include other integrations with Canva / cloud services which you would not get with the perpetual version). But it’s very early days and there isn't a firm plan on that.
I honestly think you'll all be pleased with the outcome of this. With the additional financial backing we have no pressure at all to release a V3 anytime soon, so can be 100% focused on ploughing all our efforts into free V2 updates for the foreseeable future - and we've got some great updates in the works.
Realise this announcement has come as a surprise and I understand the feeling of uncertainty which is brings, but I do think it's all very positive for the company and our customers.

    Hi,
Similarly to Text Styles, I would love if Publisher had Picture Frame Styles. Something similar to InDesign's Object Styles.
The current Styles are global ones, not tied to a document. They are sort of style presets, more than styles. Click on one, and the properties are applied to the selected object(s). Edit the style, and nothing changes in the objects you applied the style to.
I find being able to change the object properties when editing the Picture Frame Styles very important, because image styles are an essential part of a publication's style. For example, you might want a minimal, flat design in a project, and a design "popping-out" in a derived publication (for example, a book for kids derived from an age-neutral one).

Try the following, on your first Actual page, the right hand page, check in the layers panel and see if there is the left hand page from the master. Use Edit Detached and delete this left hand stuff from the Actual page.

Not "every software company" does what you suggest.  Many don't
You are not being attacked by "rich people"
You haven't wasted any money on V1 because V1 still works and does what you paid for. You haven't lost anything.
You got a good deal on V1, it still works and will continue to work.
It is better value than any other system out there.

The time before V1 and V2 is about 8 years.
Even if V3 comes out in 5 months V2 (like V1) will continue to work and NOT be obsolete. None of its functionality will cease.
Though V3 is liky to be at least 5 years out.  I bought V1 (without a discount) 11 months before V2 came out.
NOTE I was still using Adobe CS6 from 11 years ago (untill I bought Afinity V1 a year ago)  because I can't afford the Adobe subscription  service.
Serif periodically do discounts of 25% and 30% at least twice a year so you can get V2 later..  There is no rush as you are not using affinity in business.

Life is what it is and it isn't fair. However Affinity do a very good job of producing very good software at a very low price. They get in 99% right.

I have two matters that I would like to raise in connection with document templates:
If Affinity Publisher is going to be supplied to customers pretty much as it is in the beta version, then it looks to me that it is going to be supplied without a selection of pre-made templates. I would like to suggest that consideration is given to setting up a number of pre-made templates for customers to either use as they are or which can form a basis from which they can create their own documents. Apart from assisting customers to get started with their own documents, it would enable Affinity to showcase the capabilities of its product.  I would like to be able to design and save a basic structure of a document to be used as a template, such as a newsletter. With the template set up, then other users could take the base template to create an updated version of a document without the risk of the original template being overwritten. At the moment, I believe that the only way to do this is to design and save the base document and then open it for use when needed. My concern is that it will be easy for the base document to be overwritten or amended as people start to use it.
