    Hi,
I assume it was already mentioned, but please add an icon when I have  non-default blend ranges in a layer.

Kerwin reacted to Lemons in Center locked cropping
    Hello forum,
Just purchased the product and overall it is excellent. That said, it is missing a genuinely needed option within cropping. This being the ability to lock/align the cropping tool to the center of the image so that when you click and drag from the left; the right also crops to the same amount, and like wise from top to bottom. Most importantly to me is the need to crop from a corner and for all other points to move the same amount (whilst being locked at the center) framing the image equally and effectively.
I believe although do not fully remember that to do something similar in the overly priced competitor of affinity photo is by holding down alt (or maybe it was shift, but not both together) whilst cropping.
For now i am manually center cropping by adding/taking away the x and y value to achive an equal border.
    Thanks

Going through the trial and some suggestions based on the previous image editing software I used.
    1. Make tabs on tab bar smaller.  Currently one image takes up entire tab bar and it is divided evenly as more are added
    2. add right-click context menu when clicking on a tab to add "Close All", "Close All But This", "Close Images To The Right", "Close Images To The Right" and "New Image"
    3. When closing multiple images, allow the user to close all without saving
    4. Default an image to 100% if it is smaller than the current workspace, otherwise zoom to fit.  Make this a user-selectable preference in settings.  So default zoom to 1:1 and Zoom to fit, or Zoom to fit
    5. Why is export a two step process, any way to make it one step that we can assign a shortcut key too?  Same with the image resize dialog.  want to just type the dimensions and press enter.  currently have to press enter a second time to make the change.
    6. To assist migrating users, have keyboard shortcut profiles to match their old software?  So if a user is coming from Photoshop, Corel PaintShop Pro or elsewhere, make it so users can easily taylor shortcuts to their muscle memory.

Still looking to find a few things like if there's a way to crop the image to selection and is there a way to paste from clipboard onto the same layer versus creating a new layer.

    +1
If there is any real use for the current behavior then there should be an opt-in preference to enable it. Default out-of-the-box behavior should be to leave these two fields blank.

Kerwin reacted to - S - in Affinity Photo Shouldn't Automatically Write The Filename Directly Into The 'Title' Metadata
Affinity Photo is automatically writing the filename directly into the 'Title' field in the file metadata – which is a PITA.
    To reproduce:
    1) Scan an image to a *.tif file
    2) Open with Affinity Photo
    3) Save as an Affinity Photo file
    4) Export to TIF and JPG
The filename of the original scan is added to the 'Title' field in the file metadata for all three files (AFPHOTO, TIFF, JPEG).
A filename is a filename, not a title – the 'Title' field should be for the user to choose to fill in.  Affinity Photo automatically adding the filename to the title metadata field means that the original filename is now stuck as the title in the metadata, even if the file is later renamed.  It also makes little sense for most users: if the title is the same as the filename, then it's just duplicate information; if it's different due to the file having being renamed afterwards, then it's old information.  If some people want the title field in the metadata to be automatically populated with the filename, this should be an option – not forced on everyone.
The same can also be observed with Affinity Photo template files; the Affinity Photo template filename is added as the title field in the file metadata.  That means unless a user consciously removes the title from the template file, there's going to be a load of images all with the same title – the name of the template file.
So now, not only do I have to fight Affinity Photo and use PowerShell to change hundreds of file extensions at a time from .tiff to .tif, I also have to use ExifTool to remove the title metadata field for hundreds of files at a time as well.  It's tiring having to keep fighting the software due to odd design decisions that have no settings to change the default behaviour.

Please make the Grow\Shrink selection dialog remember the last used value - it's tiresome when you want to repeat the same expand action over and over on different selections.  (And any other dialogs I haven't used in my testing yet that do the same thing and default back to zero! )
    Thanks!

Maybe a good compromise would be to force the user to select a tag denoting which app their post relates to?

I’m not sure the best place to post this, so this will do. I do feel it would be beneficial to everyone if this forum was split into three. Photo, Publisher and Designer. As the forum gets bigger it can take ages to trawl through to a point of despondency. The titles that posters use tend to be a bit meaningless and we have to open and read the whole post. If I was looking for an answer regarding AP I would look in that forum. It would probably help posters get an answer quicker.
    What do others think?

    Hi falks,
I use AP since 2017 and am very satisfied. I have only two day-to-day problems. The first I understand does not depend on you (my lens, the Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC HLD is still not included in the github lenslist since 2018 :-((().
But the second I would appreciate very much if you could do: I usually open 8-10 RAW images at the same time and they never open in the order of their number. So I always have to put them in order if I want to EASILY compare two or more images made about the same topic. When I make this, it is always a hassle as they easily start to float than fly to the end of the raw.
Could you fix it in a way, that the files open in the order of their filenumber?
I assume many of us would appreciate if we could save this little but very time consuming step.
    Thank you in advance.

I would like to know why the "Show Clipped Highlights, Clipped Shadows, and Clipped Tones is only available for RAW images?  Can this feature be added to jpg/jpeg or other images types as well?  In fact, can it also be incorporated into Affinity Photo for iPad too?
    Thank you.

Kerwin got a reaction from walt.farrell in Soft Proof adjustment lists deleted icc profiles
    Hi again Walt,
To get back to you as promised, the only thing in the "Profiles" folder at  C:\Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0\profiles was an empty text file named "blacklist.txt"
I did, just to make sure I was in the right place, use the "File>Import ICC Profile..." function in Affinity to import a file, and indeed it showed up there.
Also, at  C:\Program Files\Affinity\Affinity Photo\Resources\ there is a "ICC" folder, but it contains only the default iccs delivered with Affinity (AdobeRGB1998.icc and co.).
I also looked at C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Photo\1.0, but there are only two files therein: "LensProfiles" and "Plugins".
I didn't see any other promising folder names.
By the way, I did download Affinity directly from the website.
So the mystery remains intact at least for the moment.
Any other ideas from you or others are welcome!

Kerwin got a reaction from hifred in How do you dismiss sub-tools (Picker, Straighten, etc.) without closing the parent tool?
    Hi all,
I'm assuming I'm missing something really simple, but how do you dismiss, or let go of certain sub-tools?
    Two examples:
If I activate the Crop tool, then choose its Straighten tool, then decide that a don't want the Straighten tool after all (for example, I decide to just straighten the image by grabbing a corner and rotating manually), I can't (or surely don't see how to) un-choose the Straighten tool. It seems like the only thing I can do is to cancel the entire operation. Same thing with the Picker in a Curves adjustment layer. Once I've clicked on the Picker, I can't get rid of it without closing the layer completely. I've tried re-clicking the sub-tool, hitting the Escape key, hitting the Delete key (don't do that)...
What am I missing? How do you "let go" of these sub-tools without closing the parent tool?

Unless I'm missing something,... the ability to see clipped highlights, shadows and tones is only available in the Develop Persona.
It makes a lot of sense (at least for me) to have the ability to see my clipped highlights, shadows and tone in the Photo Persona as well.
It would be a welcome addition to my current workflow.
    Thanks,

Kerwin got a reaction from lepr in RGB indicator for histogram
    Hi to all,
I would like to suggest an RGB indicator for the histogram in Affinity Photo, notably in the Photo Persona, but it would of course be good to have it in all the Personas.
I've attached an image below showing the RGB indicator in RawTherapee as an example; it's the bar underneath the histogram, indicating where the R, G, B and luminance values of the hovered-over pixel fall in the histogram. I took this screen shot with my mouse positioned over the band of trees in the image.
I find this indicator to be extremely useful, especially as a quick way of verifying details in very deep shadows or very bright highlights. It lets you see instantly, for example, if all channels are blown out, or if you have just one channel blown out with others still contributing detail. Seeing the position of the pixel value in the histogram is, at least for me, much more informative than the simple number given by the Info box.
    Thanks!
