Windows 10 is probably the last Microsoft OS I will install. The adware and spyware in 11+ is too much for me.
Counting software I use, Affinity (and one other piece of software) are the only remaining holdouts without native Linux versions. How the tides have changed!
    +1 for official Linux support.

Interesting.. the first scratches of thorns on the skin for making a 100% dedicated client to an OS using ONLY what that OS is promoting (by being the only way, ignore the rest) to enhance the whole apps developed on that platform comes as a backfire. (not even those who promote those on that platform can confirm if it's bad or good.. yikes!) (and we talk about W10/11 here..)
Now they got into a fork path.. continue doing 100% what an OS says it's best (and ignoring other old school working ways on that OS) or do what things work so users can use the apps and get their $$$$ in their pockets.
That Topic 1stn00bb added before shows that W10/11 already starts not to be a noob's os like in the old days it was known for. (click-click-yes/no-yes/no->finish->open->yay it works and now I can play/work with it) and it clearly shows where Windows will head to in the future.
While I agree I am a Windowist (since I grown up with as OS) and am used to it's way of how it was organized to the user's mindset and workflow, W10/11 kinda starts to break, either making too simplistic and some details are hidden (and later on you have problems troubleshooting it like in that above topic, and some changes cannot be made in the visual side), or they re-organize all the logical that was fine for decades, into new "try out" (and untested enough, but forces to be used as standard ASAP and patches after patches along the way... ) like the brands that change their logo even though the brand's name is same and all people know it. What I want to say is that people are starting to change stuff that worked and had logic into something different, subjective "just so we could refresh stuff cause we don't feel alright to use same stuff like our parents or grandparents used". Good thing Tesla cars don't burn out of nothing while driving or in the parking space..
Anyway.. if they change the installation client mode and it makes it possible to install afterwards in Wine, we're back on the good road.
Like the user "Zero Zero" sums up very nice trying to remind Affinity their mission and why they started doing Graphics Programs (cause they like what they are doing and want to let others use it also, as any developer's heart + mind set should be) :
" I very much like what Serif is doing with Affinity and love the software but cannot stand this insane change to the standard installation procedure.
Please Serif fix this unwanted installation mess asap. and please retain some independence from the dumbing-down that Micro$oft continually applies to Windows in the so-called attempt to make it better.
I sincerely hope you listen. "

Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.
    Thanks for your feedback!

They could very literally have made affinity work like native through wine tbh. I know Serif said they won't be supporting linux, but it could have been kinda simple. Like some of the latest and greatest videogames that are being released with day 1 steamdeck support are actually just windows games, even though steamdeck is linux. That's how easy things are getting. Serif could dedicate a little time to wine development specifically for their product and be done, everyone on linux would have a working suite worth using.

Heck my company doesn't support a linux version of our game, but when it stopped working on steamdeck after an update my colleagues went out and got a steamdeck, fixed the issue and released a patch *just* for linux support, despite being a windows game. This honestly is how it should be. with software development. Devs should be passionate about getting their product into the hands of people that want it.

Same, though 40% off + Universal Licensing is already a great deal, though I won't be buying it lol
EDIT: it seems to be even cheaper if bought from MS Store

I'm following this thread because I want to get updates on running Affinity products on Linux.
I was happy to see Affinity engineers responding hoping one day we could have a fully function Affinity suite on Linux - even if it'll never be officially supported.
I really appreciate more people commenting, saying they'd love to have a Linux version.
But can you all please stop with the useless discussions on how (un)popular Linux is and whether an official port would be economical?
Sorry but nobody cares and important replys like the bottle example and the deprecated function call just go down in this whole mess.
Is there any other thread, maybe on a different forum or a discord server, which is not such a huge mess?
Otherwise I'd really appreciate a moderated thread where people who actually know what they're doing (i.e. not me) and maybe even occasionally Affinity engineers can exchange about their findings on how to get things running under Wine - then it also wouldn't take like 10 minutes to find the reply with the kinda working bottle config.

Hi everyone, just stumbled onto this topic after doing a web search for "how to run Affinity Designer on Linux". The help provided here on how to get the bottle going on Linux has been invaluable - thank you everyone involved. Yes, it's flickering & I can't use a "save as" on a new file, but.... woooo, sooooo close! (Running Manjaro Linux 5.19 with an AMD RX 5700 XT)
I've got a Macbook right next to my PC, but would prefer to just run everything through Linux, so this topic has been very valuable - thank you!!

Agreed. Affinity has made their position clear on this forum and Twitter, at least, that they are happy with the way things are. Quite frankly, it is their company which they formed to do what they wanted to do. As a business owner of more than 20 years, comments and suggestions are always welcome and occasionally, gratefully, implemented. However, nothing is more irritating than when someone waltzes into your company demanding that they rearrange the universe on their behalf. Whereas I am disappointed that there isn't an Affinity Suite for Linux, since native apps always work best, I respect their choices. And kudos to them for trying to help out people attempting alternate installations!😎

When Adobe went for the p̶e̶r̶m̶a̶n̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶e̶x̶t̶o̶r̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ service as a subscription model, that did wonders for the sale of competitor products including all the Affinity products, ON1, Exposure and the rest. I might be wrong but, and as with Wine, I get the distinct impression that the Codeweavers developers have not put the effort that they could do in getting the Affinity products to work reasonably well on Crossover. I think it would be useful if we all made the same requests for the Affinity products over on Codeweavers' own forums here: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/
I hope that at some stage we could get to a point where Serif Europe and Codeweavers staff can actually have some discreet discussions about this matter since everyone concerned would make more sales and money (would the staff who read this be willing to do this?).
In the meantime, we can get the Affinity products to work perfectly on Linux so long as we have 16GB and use a virtual machine:
