FlynnAffinity reacted to Hubendubel in Arbitrary rotate selection (NOT PIXELS)
Indeed, I suffered from the same lack of knowledge. Been a long-time Mac user and entered the world of Affinity by the discounts during the pandemic. Thank you for that.
However, never figured out how to rotate a selection frame without the actual pixels. Modifying the selection is so standard in Photoshop and Photoshop has such a huge influence in muscle memory that I never thought about masking.
For all others coming to this thread after desperate searching, here is the workflow I figured out:
Press [M] for drawing a selection e.g. rectangle as a good starting point
Press [Q] to switch into QuickMask mode.
Press [V] to use the move tool and modify the area as required: Resize, rotate and position as needed.
Press [Q] again to leave QuickMask mode.
Now you can apply filters or use the selected pixels in the intended way (move away, delete, whatever).
(Sometimes the selection is gone after leaving the QuickMask mode. Does never happen whenever the area was moved during masking. Have to use this technique more often before I submit an actual bug report; maybe someone noticed this glitch as well or is it a common failure for newbies? ;-)

FlynnAffinity reacted to Lemons in Center locked cropping
    Hello forum,
Just purchased the product and overall it is excellent. That said, it is missing a genuinely needed option within cropping. This being the ability to lock/align the cropping tool to the center of the image so that when you click and drag from the left; the right also crops to the same amount, and like wise from top to bottom. Most importantly to me is the need to crop from a corner and for all other points to move the same amount (whilst being locked at the center) framing the image equally and effectively.
I believe although do not fully remember that to do something similar in the overly priced competitor of affinity photo is by holding down alt (or maybe it was shift, but not both together) whilst cropping.
For now i am manually center cropping by adding/taking away the x and y value to achive an equal border.
    Thanks

The easiest way is maybe: New layer and shift+F5 - then selfdefined and you can switch the color.

FlynnAffinity got a reaction from BobsDaubs in My text is always bolded!
I struggled with this for about an hour, looking around on the Internet for anything that was helpful.  Couldn't find anything other than how to change the styles.  My styles are off, but the text still looked bolded.
Finally found it.  A stroke size was set.  Not sure how that happened, but it did.  I was drawing rectangles with a 2px stroke in between text boxes.
Anyway, while the text tool was on, I selected the stroke option, clicked on 'none', everything is right again.
Thought others may want to know.  Apologies if this is repeating oft repeated information.
