Oh, and what would be tremendous and much needed: Add optical alignment to tabs and indents.

I can't give any timelines for this (IDML import, not INDD). It's being worked and will be in an update when it is considered working and relatively stable. But I would be talking more than a few weeks in not months, It's not a simple thing to just implement

Hi Affinity team, the end of the month is coming really really fast !
Is there a further delay to expect or you are waiting to the last minute in order to polish the code ?

    PS. Deadlines are the worst

We are all waiting for it but publishing a half baked software wouldn’t help anyone.
The beta is coming in about a month and if it is like the other 2 Affinity public betas, you will be able to use it "carefully" in production right from day one.

@paulstar08 It seems that they had internally a prototyping tool for Affinity Designer.
Adding grids layout can be useful for everyone not only webdesigners so an extra app seems overkill if they can add a prototyping persona.
But of course if they do release a dedicated tool I’ll buy it on day one

Indeed, I would love to see a proper grid management.
My guess is that it would also be pretty useful for affinity publisher.

You should give more precise exemples to what features you would love to see added.
I am an interface designer and work mainly on web applications and site designs and right now I found everything that I really need to fulfil my needs :
Multiple artboards allows you to layout multiple pages or layout one page for multiple devices. Global colors and symbols allows you to easily apply changes easily. Constraints allows you to mimic simple responsive design and combined with symbols can be really powerful. Pixel snapping allows you to always be perfect and the pixel preview allows you to easily check it. Finally the export persona is really well thought. My only grievance is that some file formats should be more optimised when a “web” profile is selected. What would you need to work more efficiently ?

    Hi,

The current grid system is nice but I think it could go a lot further.

Subform is a new UI tool and they seem to have an interesting approach to grids.
Flexible (responsive) Informal (quickly experiment with layouts or place elements) Two-dimensional Create sub grids in any element They are focused on web design but from my experience it could also be really useful for print design.

PS. Another perfect Sketch plugin that would help us a lot is Paddy, like its name suggest it allows to set-up padding to an element and allows it to resize depending on the elements it contains. Sweet !

    Hi,

I would love to see an option to optimise Affinity Designer’s files. What I have in mind is a way, once you have finished your composition to reduce the image size to match their use.

You would need a few options to reduce the file without losing actual useful data. Depending on what you need you can define that the file images need to be downsized to 1x or 2x, that the images should be cropped to their visible portion or left to their full size, etc.

I think this would be really helpful to avoid archiving huge files when you have a mostly vector file but with a few cropped images.

And, here a video showing the new rotate-on-plane feature of the Move tool.  A new shape is created into a grid, using the "Edit In Grid Plane" mode.  Then, with the mode on, any rotations maintain the grid plane perspective.

Thought I'd give you a glimpse of some of the features that will be coming in 1.7.

Please note - this thread is only for discussing the features detailed here.  Postings related to other feature requests should be posted on their own thread (else they will get deleted from this thread).

We have spent considerable time overhauling the internals of some of our main tools.  It's been a labour of love, but it's going to open up greater possibilities for our core tool set.

    The core tools are:
    - Move tool
    - Pen tool
    - Node tool
    - Shape creation tools
    - Text tools
    - Fill and Transparency tools
    - Place Image tool
    - Vector Crop tool

So, what improvements can be expected?

    - Advanced grid editing on spread (move the grid origin and edit it's axis with a handy new widget, with full snapping of course)
    - Guides can be created and moved in all the core tools, plus a toggle to turn guide editing off
    - Move the artboard ruler origin (with editing toggle)
    - Create objects and shapes into an arbitrary grid
    - Rotate and flip objects in grid planes (great for people working in isometric), plus an option to rotate shapes in plane using the Move tool
    - The Move tool will now allow you to cycle though selection boxes, including regular boxes and grid plane aligned boxes
    - Snapping performance improvements

fdelaneau reacted to Tomeric in SVG-Export: File size
Vector files exported by AD are at least twice as big as the same file exported by Adobe Illustrator.
I've just now exported a logo: 28.108 bytes with AD ("SVG for web"), 15.365 10.663 bytes with AI. (Updated: Smaller file had display errors)

Small files sizes are IMHO still important when exporting graphics for the web...
Can we expect improvements in this case?

Probably an obscure, low priority feature request, but here it is:

iOS7/8 is too fancy to use the standard circular rounded rect for icons. Instead favors the "superellipse"

I thought it would be cool to have "superellipse" along with Round, Concave, Straight, Cutout corner styles available in the Rounded Rectangle tool.  (but maybe its better as its own shape, rather than a corner type under rounded rect, I dunno.)

I did see a twitter post with the equation needed to make the proper corners to fit in on iOS 7.

Random thought : Since all Affinity apps share the same file format, Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo needs to be able to handle linked text blocks. Otherwise, you won't be able to resize a linked text block.

At that point what are the features that would make Affinity Publisher different from AD ?

Pages and spreads for sure… but what else ?
Note that the features problem is the same, since you need to be able to edit the file in AD or AP so both need to support pages and spreads.
