@YuY222 Hold on the affinity team is doing an incredible job so far !
Their priorities are simply not always aligned with some of us. I would love to see this feature implemented but I don’t think it is fair to throw some shade on them because someone else did it faster.

Having the document save to the default document path would help a lot. Currently it defaults to the previous path used which could be anywhere on the computer or any other client folder.

I want to compose lists where the bullet is outside of the paragraph, typically known as hanging bullet points, something like this:
text text text text text text text text text · list item 1 · list item 2 · list item 3 text text text text text text text text text Right now it's possible only if I indent everything and remove the indentation for the lists. That's a hack, not a proper workflow.

I've seen some very nice product mock-up template files built in Affinity Photo making use of embedded files that allow for the substitution of new art in the embedded files. See the video below.
The problem is that what is possible to build is limited to flat plane objects (e.g., posters, book covers, iPad screens) because while there is a Perspective Live Filter to distort flat planes, there is no Mesh Warp Live Filter that would allow designers to wrap embedded files around curved or cylindrical shapes like wine bottles.
Is there any chance we might see a Mesh Warp Live Filter within the next few point upgrades? Please?

If you mean the app preference "Auto-Scroll to Show Selection in Layers Panel" I don't think it's activation or deactivation matters here. If it's off then we need to unfold artboard layers, too, additionally to the current need to collapse them manually. So, once artboards got unfolded then having the option unticked would not reduce or influence the mess in the layer panel. – Possibly other users don't pay much attention to the Layer Panel when working in AD, stay focused on the document / layout window?
Actually, this "Auto-Scroll" function seems incomplete programmed to me: Like an elevator door that 'magically' opens by itself ... but has to be closed manually every time.

I would like to tick on/off an option in the Layers panel to show only the layers of my current Artboard and hide other Artboard Layers in the panel.
I would also appreciate if, alternatively,  'unused' Artboard Layers could be set to automatically collapse when I select a different Artboard on canvas.
Just as already a corresponding Artboard Layer is automatically opened when I select it on the canvas.

PLUS ONE for this, web browsers will support this from September and I would love to convert all online images to this as it stands an AVIF image of the same quality is 10 times smaller than a  jpg and that would super speed up any webpages which  will effect google seo rankings.

    Hi fdelaneau,
No news sorry. I've moved the thread to the current Feedback for Affinity Designer on Desktop section (was in the Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts) and nudged the dev/passed the feedback. Hopefully this should help to bring more attention to this feature. Thanks.

    Hi,
I am new on this forum and I am testing the demos of Affinity Design/Photo. I am very enthusiast about them! I use Adobe's apps from many years but I am pretty disappointed that they gotten so heavy and cumbersome. I use them for creating clothes graphics and I look forward to move to Affinity definitely. However, I support  @PAULRFONTENOT 's request. He refers to a function that I use a lot as well. In Illustrator it is called "Offset Path" (maybe it was "Insect Path" in the old Macromedia Freehand).  - Forgive me if it is not allowed to to quote other apps, if so,  the moderator can delete-.
It's not a simply resizing function, it is used to create a parallel path starting from a shape. I know,  I can skip the problem using "Expand Stroke" or by duplicating portions of spline, but it would be tricky and not accurate. The tool we are talking about contracts/expands a shape and you can define the amount in a pop-up window. This task is quite easy for regular shapes, but it is not for complex shapes. I attach an example (see dashed lines) . I wish you will add this function in the future. Many congrats to the developers, I was waiting for a vector application so fast and easy!

It works fine. When you export to delivery format file size will be as expected. .afphoto filetype is meant for work format and its file size does not matter.

fdelaneau reacted to fde101 in Scripting
No matter what features the devs add to the app, there will always be people with more specialized use cases who can leverage scripting to automate tasks that would otherwise be repetitive.
There are largely two categories of use cases with different sets of requirements:
One is a need to automate tasks within the application itself.  If someone is repeatedly doing something basic that may well be specific to their line of work which would not be a good fit for a general feature of the program, a scripting language integrated into the application can often create specialized functionality that could help to avoid repeatedly doing the same task for those users.  This is the use case that most of the people who are arguing Python vs. Lua vs. Javascript etc. are likely thinking of.  This feature would benefit more of the individual layout artists and designers compared to the other bullet point below, as it would enable them to more efficiently tailor the software for their individual needs and workflows. The other major use case is the need to integrate multiple applications by tying together programs that each do some specialized task.  This one cannot be handled by a programming language that is integrated into the application but rather by having the application support the OS-provided scripting languages so that multiple applications can be tied together by a script to automate tasks that no one of the programs could do by itself.  This is the use case that the AppleScript users are mostly thinking of (or OS-provided JavaScript/VBScript - OSA/WSH/etc.) as it enables control of multiple applications from within the scripting language, a case that could not be readily handled by an embedded Python, Lua, etc. interpreter.  This is a critical capability in some production environments and would benefit some individual artists/designers as well. In both cases, it boils down to providing support for more specialized needs without otherwise bloating the functionality of the app itself trying to handle every little corner case that every possible user might come up with, and both sets of requirements will be important to different users.

Dashboard is still there.  If AppleScript does fall into disuse, it is more likely to lose out to Swift than to JavaScript, at least in the Apple world.  (Yes, Swift can be used as a scripting language...)

I think that the Affinity team approach was the right one. They relatively quickly built a suite of powerful, professional grade, applications that cover most of the creative uses.
Until now nobody has ever been able to manage that and be considered as an interesting alternative to Adobe.

The fact that the three applications cost less than 3 month of Adobe Creative Cloud or 100 times less than the defunct Adobe Design Standard Creative Suite is really appealing for freelances and makes it interesting for non professionals also.

Now that the current applications cover the basis, I think the team can focus on improving those applications and/or develop more specialized ones.
Right now, I’m primarily using Affinity Designer for interface design work, before I was using Photoshop mostly with vector shapes.
There are things that would ease my workflow a lot, but it is already nice enough that I cancelled my Adobe subscription without any regret.

I’m not sure if optional personas is the way to go but building on the Affinity StudioLink I could imagine a new application focus on interface design with Sketch like features that could instantly switch to Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo tools.

A successor to Apple Aperture with non destructive Raw process and instant access to Affinity Photo tools if needed would also be really nice

Small length problem with the missing font notification.

The current text "Le document comporte des polices manquantes" translates to "The document has missing fonts".
It could easily be shortened to "Document’s missing fonts" witch in French would be "Polices du document manquantes".

Otherwise you need to allow text wrapping or define the notification width depending on the content.

Coding today is very cheap compared to back in the day.
Instead of having to purchase something like Turbo Pascal/C, which you pretty much had to do in the olden days (if you wanted to do it legally), you can now get IDEs and SDKs for free from all kinds of places for just about any language you want. (I remember having to pay £99 for Acorn ANSI C back in the 90's.) Just type "coding for free" (without the quotes) into any search engine and you will get millions of results.
As with Walt, I don't want to get into any kind of "religious war" on this but, since you're using Windows, try searching for "Visual Studio Community" and see what you can get. (Or maybe wait a week or so and download the new version that's - apparently - coming instead of having to upgrade almost immediately.)
Also, depending on what you want to do, there may already be a free library that you can use so you could cut your own coding down quite a bit. (E.g. Searching nuget.org - a good place for libraries and extensions, all open source and free - for "text manipulation" shows 2691 packages.)
Or, if you prefer Pascal/Delphi you could also try lazarus-ide.org
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the possibilities for free coding are practically endless.

fdelaneau reacted to A_B_C in Tooltip fix and optical margin align?
Regarding the optical alignment, I would suggest a few additions.
First off, it is somewhat odd that characters with diacritics are not included in the standard alignment lists. For instance, the letter A will be optically aligned, while the letter Á won’t. I would suggest that you follow a class-based approach, since the number of characters with diacritics included in different fonts might be different. So adding uppercase A to an alignment list should include all related composites in the font.

Secondly, I believe that some of the alignment classes will have to be extended. Just have a look at the V and the A in my example below, or at the guillemets. That doesn’t look really nice. But looking at other examples, it is easy to see that the same values do not always work nicely for different fonts. A typeface with light and tiny guillemets will need more correction at this point. So I think we will need a simple way of creating overrides. What if adding a new alignment rule to the bottom of the value list would simply override all rules above, with respect to the newly added characters? This way we would not have to search the entire list in order to make adjustments.

And finally, I would suggest that you develop of a concept for integrating italicised sections of a text. I believe you could do a pretty good job here by reading out the italic angle from the font file and come up with a nifty formula for adjusting the alignment values when a line starts with an italicised word. You will see in my example that it is technically impossible to create an optically satisfying solution for italicised line starts (or endings) at the moment. This would be a great improvement.

    Hope that makes sense …
    Alex
