    Thank you fdelaneau,
I will pass this to the developers for you.

Small length problem with the missing font notification.

The current text "Le document comporte des polices manquantes" translates to "The document has missing fonts".
It could easily be shortened to "Document’s missing fonts" witch in French would be "Polices du document manquantes".

Otherwise you need to allow text wrapping or define the notification width depending on the content.

No sorry, it was simple flyers that I could have done with Designer but I wanted the benefits of the better control of the text blocs that Publisher offers.

Coding today is very cheap compared to back in the day.
Instead of having to purchase something like Turbo Pascal/C, which you pretty much had to do in the olden days (if you wanted to do it legally), you can now get IDEs and SDKs for free from all kinds of places for just about any language you want. (I remember having to pay £99 for Acorn ANSI C back in the 90's.) Just type "coding for free" (without the quotes) into any search engine and you will get millions of results.
As with Walt, I don't want to get into any kind of "religious war" on this but, since you're using Windows, try searching for "Visual Studio Community" and see what you can get. (Or maybe wait a week or so and download the new version that's - apparently - coming instead of having to upgrade almost immediately.)
Also, depending on what you want to do, there may already be a free library that you can use so you could cut your own coding down quite a bit. (E.g. Searching nuget.org - a good place for libraries and extensions, all open source and free - for "text manipulation" shows 2691 packages.)
Or, if you prefer Pascal/Delphi you could also try lazarus-ide.org
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the possibilities for free coding are practically endless.

I used it for simple jobs and everything was perfect. The most important I think is to remember it is still a beta and to check your PDF thoroughly.

It would be really useful if it were possible to add a Master page to the top of the stack on all pages, rather than having to drag it there on each page individually.

I just found out that this might be a lot easier than supporting PSD files, they opened their file format to allow automation :

fdelaneau reacted to A_B_C in Tooltip fix and optical margin align?
Regarding the optical alignment, I would suggest a few additions.
First off, it is somewhat odd that characters with diacritics are not included in the standard alignment lists. For instance, the letter A will be optically aligned, while the letter Á won’t. I would suggest that you follow a class-based approach, since the number of characters with diacritics included in different fonts might be different. So adding uppercase A to an alignment list should include all related composites in the font.

Secondly, I believe that some of the alignment classes will have to be extended. Just have a look at the V and the A in my example below, or at the guillemets. That doesn’t look really nice. But looking at other examples, it is easy to see that the same values do not always work nicely for different fonts. A typeface with light and tiny guillemets will need more correction at this point. So I think we will need a simple way of creating overrides. What if adding a new alignment rule to the bottom of the value list would simply override all rules above, with respect to the newly added characters? This way we would not have to search the entire list in order to make adjustments.

And finally, I would suggest that you develop of a concept for integrating italicised sections of a text. I believe you could do a pretty good job here by reading out the italic angle from the font file and come up with a nifty formula for adjusting the alignment values when a line starts with an italicised word. You will see in my example that it is technically impossible to create an optically satisfying solution for italicised line starts (or endings) at the moment. This would be a great improvement.

    Hope that makes sense …

I can't give any timelines for this (IDML import, not INDD). It's being worked and will be in an update when it is considered working and relatively stable. But I would be talking more than a few weeks in not months, It's not a simple thing to just implement

We are all waiting for it but publishing a half baked software wouldn’t help anyone.
The beta is coming in about a month and if it is like the other 2 Affinity public betas, you will be able to use it "carefully" in production right from day one.

@paulstar08 It seems that they had internally a prototyping tool for Affinity Designer.
Adding grids layout can be useful for everyone not only webdesigners so an extra app seems overkill if they can add a prototyping persona.
But of course if they do release a dedicated tool I’ll buy it on day one

My guess is that it would also be pretty useful for affinity publisher.

You should give more precise exemples to what features you would love to see added.
I am an interface designer and work mainly on web applications and site designs and right now I found everything that I really need to fulfil my needs :
Multiple artboards allows you to layout multiple pages or layout one page for multiple devices. Global colors and symbols allows you to easily apply changes easily. Constraints allows you to mimic simple responsive design and combined with symbols can be really powerful. Pixel snapping allows you to always be perfect and the pixel preview allows you to easily check it. Finally the export persona is really well thought. My only grievance is that some file formats should be more optimised when a “web” profile is selected. What would you need to work more efficiently ?

    Hi,

The current grid system is nice but I think it could go a lot further.

Subform is a new UI tool and they seem to have an interesting approach to grids.
Flexible (responsive) Informal (quickly experiment with layouts or place elements) Two-dimensional Create sub grids in any element They are focused on web design but from my experience it could also be really useful for print design.

    Hi,

I would love to see an option to optimise Affinity Designer’s files. What I have in mind is a way, once you have finished your composition to reduce the image size to match their use.

You would need a few options to reduce the file without losing actual useful data. Depending on what you need you can define that the file images need to be downsized to 1x or 2x, that the images should be cropped to their visible portion or left to their full size, etc.

I think this would be really helpful to avoid archiving huge files when you have a mostly vector file but with a few cropped images.
