  1. This could be indeed very useful. I was looking for this option lately and was getting frustrated when I finally realized that it was simply not possible for now. Ideally I would love for Data Merge to be able to behave more like web templates and allow for more depth to the data structure. Here is for exemple a JSON structure data for a restaurant menu : { "Dishes": [ { "name": "Pizza", "price": 12, "priceUnit": "€" }, { "name": "Pasta", "price": 10, "priceUnit": "€" } ], "Drinks": [ { "name": "water", "quantity": 50, "quantityUnit": "cl", "price": 2, "priceUnit": "€" }, { "name": "Orange juice", "quantity": 25, "quantityUnit": "cl", "price": 2, "priceUnit": "€" } ] } Supporting single text frame would be nice and allow to split the above exemple in 2 files but combining them into a single file would be even better. I recently had a project with the same text across multiple formats resulting in multiple files to edit for each text change… and of course the client had numerous last minute changes. If I could have a master file for all my texts it would have made things so much easier.
  2. I was growing frustrated when trying this out but thanks to @Maxdanger's video I was able to understand that you must select the objects first… and only then, mark the key object with alt + click. Once I knew what to look for, "specify a key object in your selection" was clear, but at first I was trying to specify it while making the selection.
  3. I just downloaded the Designer Beta and the problems 1, 2 seems to be solved. 1. I tried quitting the application while in full screen. The application once reopened is taking the maximum available space but doesn't creep under the menu bar 👍 2. I tried opening the application after unplugging my main screen. The application window is now contained within the new smaller screen size 👍 3. So far no overlaps of the window main button with the toolbar 🤞 4. Still no luck when opening images the Mac way 😅
  4. Hi @stokerg, 1. Nice ! 3. I am running the latest macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 (23C71) on an Apple M1 Pro. This is not constant, and right now I’m unable to reproduce so this might be a non issue. 4. This is something that drives me crazy, so while not a priority compared to actual bugs this would improve my daily experience greatly 😊
  5. Hi @Hangman, Sorry for the answering delay and happy new year 😄 I just tried moving the second art board to 64mm just to check if that would solve the issue but no luck I get the exact same result. The first page hase the right dimensions but not the second. Just in cas this could have an influence, I’m running Affinity Designer 2.3.0 from the Mac App Store on an Apple M1 Pro chip.
  6. Affinity applications have had issues with windows management from the start, its been years and I don't see any improvement. 1. If you quit the application while working in fullscreen mode, opening the application will result in a maxed out window that even go under the menu bar. The dimensions of the window when not in fullscreen should be stored and used instead. 2. Linked to this widow size problem, the screen might not be the same as last time the application was opened so the window should never exceed the screen size minus the dock (if it is not hidden) and the menu bar. I think Apple design guidelines do define all of this. 3. When opening the application, the personas button are sometimes in the same place as the windows buttons. As if the fullscreen mode was never exited. 4. Opening a file in an application should always put the focus on the application AND show the space where the application is active. Currently if you open a file by dragging it on the application icon (which is a very common practice for long time macOS users) the application will only gain focus. You have to change between your spaces to see that the file was correctly opened. This drives me nuts as I always wait for the application to load the file and then appear like all the other applications do, then after a while I remember that I have to switch to the application's space.
  7. Hi, I have a weird one here. I created a vertical business card in Designer. I created two artboards both 55 x 85 mm. Once the design approved I export it to PDF and updload it in the interface from print.com and it immediately tells me that the second page had to be scaled to fit. I went back and checked the artboard size, everything seems fine, bit to be sure, I also used the transform panel and retyped the values after emptying the field as I know that sometimes Designer displays rounded values. I then and exported then uploaded the new PDF file. Same result. As I had to send the files to the printer, I then created a brand new file in Publisher, copy pasted the content and exported. No issue there, the PDF file is perfect. Before sending you this report, I also tried creating a new file in Designer, copy pasted the content and exported. The PDF file is also perfect. The error is really minor 0,1 mm but it shouldn't even be possible. Apple M1 Pro / MacOS 14.1.1 / Affinity Designer 2.2.1 Bug demo.afdesign
  8. I must say that this doesn't affect me so much but it is driving my sister crazy. She has a lot of clients and is constantly jumping between them so this is a constant source of mistakes for her. At this point this should be a priority, especially as this is the behavior from Adobe’s applications, this would greatly help newcomers 😇
  9. Ok, I was to quick to declare victory. Once you licence is linked to your Affinity account, you might still have to activate the other applications. To do that, do not follow the same process as before ! Click on the "I already have a licence" link at the bottom and login to you account. I my case doing so in Publisher did also unlock Photos but if it doesn't just repeat the process 😅 PS. While troubleshooting I discovered that there is no way to disconnect your Affinity account from the applications.
  10. I just tried and this time it worked perfectly. Just be careful to select the Universal Licence and not the single App Licence like I almost did. If you select the Universal Licence it should ask you to log in your Affinity account and voilà 😅 PS. I still don't have any news from the Affinity support team, so big thank you to @PeterDB for posting the solution here 👍
  11. Just to bump this discussion and to mention that of course the specific superellipse type we are all looking for is the squircle or to be even more precise a quintic superellipse as mentioned in this Wikipedia article. But having access to other kind of superellipse using the superformula for exemple could also be really nice 😁
  12. Not ideal but don’t think it is a big deal. They will fix this and we can use the trial version in the meantime 😁
  13. Hi, I have a similar issue here. I downloaded the 3 apps from the App Store, launched Affinity Designer, proceed to buy the Universal Licence and after confirming the payment, nothing. The App Store do list the 3 apps as purchased but Designer only offers to activate, buy or try. The restore purchase doesn't work and I tried the trial, thinking I could then have more options via the account, but nothing 😭 Note that I have an Affinity ID linked to my existing applications and it was automatically retrieved when I started the trial. So now my Affinity ID is connected but there is no universal licence linked to it.
  14. A roadmap would be really nice but it isn't always possible. I have a SAS product on the way and we plan to publish a partial roadmap showing only the features we are currently working on without any deadline. After giving it some thought, showing our complete list just doesn't makes sense as we don't know when we will get there and this will only build frustrations.
  15. About the controversy concerning the price of the update. So far as I understand there has been no communication at all about changes to their business model. A survey doesn't change that, especially since we don't know what the results are. One of the key point in Affinity's communication has been “no subscription”, so I expect that they honor that and offer a paid upgrade for a 2.x perpetual licence. Depending on their marketing strategy, they could offer an upgrade licence price or consider that the full licence price is low enough that they don't really need an upgrade price and simply launch with a temporary discount. I would go with a temporary discount as it offer several advantages. It is easier to implement (especially for the Apple App Store where paid upgrades are still not really a thing) and the discount being temporary it pushes all existing customers to upgrade immediately. Anyway, I’ll gladly pay for the upgrade simply because I enjoy using the applications and want to support the team’s work 😎
  16. I was a bit taken aback by the sudden lack of updates or any new beta without any official communication. I think an official post on the main News section of the forums and perhaps a brief article talking about the future of the Affinity range on the Affinity Spotlight site would have been a great idea (and might still be depending on how close you are from releasing the new versions). This thread did reassure me that all is good, but customers shouldn't have to search for these kind of informations 😅 To clarify, a simple post in the forum News section saying that the updates will slow down for a while as the team is working on something important would be enough.
  17. Hi, The save dialog box default to the last folder you saved a file to instead of the last folder you saved a file to OR the folder of the last opened file. This may seem a minor issue but it causes a lot of mistakes. Is there any chances you’ll fix this quickly ? Pretty please ?
  18. It would be great if we could set nudge distances in the preferences depending on the unit like it is possible for the decimal place. When working with pixels I like my nudge units to be 1px and 10px but when I work in mm it make more sense to set it to 1mm and 10mm. Currently you have to change it manually each time and I often forget as I constantly switch between print and web.
  19. Voting for features shouldn't be a contraint for the development roadmap, but it is a nice way to highlight the users interests in a more structured way then a forum. Dropbox did it for a while and it was really great ! They didn't always pick the most popular features, but used it as an ideation source and they updated the features status thus allowing the community to see that a feature was included in the internal roadmap, in progress or has already shipped in an update.
  20. Hi @gabe I was finally going to take the time to make a video and an exemple file but it seems for now that 1.9 fixed the problem 😍 I’ll test it further and post a video if I can reproduce the problem again 😊🤞
  21. I have a similar issue where putting an image Inline in text in a master text frame “freezes” it as you deselect it. It is faily strait forward to reproduce : Copy an an illustration, paste it into the text. Deselect the current text frame then try to edit the text once more. I tried it a few times and it isn't systematic but does occur quite regularly. Once the frame is “locked”, you can't select it by any means. With linked text frames, I was able to move the text cursor into the frame and then removing the image solved the problem. I can send the team my file if needed.
  22. We are having the same issues here. This isn't the defautl behavior on a Mac and causes mayhem for my sister and I as we regularly save files in the wrong folders and can't find them later 😓 If you open a file, the default location to save a new version or export this file should be the parent folder of this file. PS. The only exception I can think of would be the export persona where last path used to export could be saved within the file.
  23. I concur, I used this extensively on Indesign with bullets, titles or even inline images.
